  1. This one is for Dresden on account of he was self-medicating last year. I couldn't find the original but I really like this band—first I've ever heard of them but they have got it on. The bass is way overdone and it makes my speakers rattle but most of you probably have better sound equipment than I do.

What was this conversation about originally?

/me takes a pizza back to the corner

    My dear Lillie,

In fact there is no need to scroll back up. That part of Keli's answer, at least, is correct. Naturally she did her best to distract you from the fact she posted a totally unauthorized pic by trying to shift some of the blame to me. As usual she uses the fact that I am careful in my decisions and dressing to call me slow (the fact I didn't hardly look at the Forums today isn't helping either, I assure you). She's like that. A typical multitasker—iPad in one hand, iPhone in the other. Probably drives with her knees. No doubt she thinks anyone over thirty twenty-nine is over the hill.

I thought this topic had been buried until I discovered about a hundred and six new posts in my inbox. I hope Keli's carelessness does not come back to haunt you when you are an established star. It would grieve me to see you cancelling a Carnegie Hall performance because some bimbo sent pix to the News of the World (well actually they're gone now, but whoever). Although I must admit you looked cute in the nightie, so maybe it's all for the better.

  3. Nice :-). It certainly looked like everyone was enjoying the 'beach'. Where I live they sometimes will truck in a bunch of snow around the time of the Christmas holidays, so the kids can have fun playing. Same sort of idea but not nearly as original as having a beach appear in the middle of town. Plus you don't have to worry about the sand melting.

@Keli, Soccer Mom reporting for duty! What time does practice end? I need to know if I have time to run errands before I pick you up, or if I have to stay and make boring small talk with the other moms.

@Venus, I'm always happy to spend my vacation money in NC. We love it there. If I could buy a second home there in the mountains, I would in a heartbeat.

@Storm, I only singled out Dillon because she's the one who usually calls me Soccer Mom. Regarding the splendor of the mountains, I agree with you that this part of the country is simply breathtaking. As for golf, you'd get along with Zeke. He loves to play, but rarely has the time. In any case it sounds there could be a good investment opportunity for someone to design a course in the Blue Ridge mountains!

    @Dillon, *waves back*

Well, Quinn, I may have to start calling you something else, it seems. While Soccer Mom will remain your code name (should we be called back to active duty) your nickname is subject to revision and in fact has been revised. :smileywink:

Went to Val's last night with Maddy and Ange (bet that damn bird told you Val) kudos Val it's lovely:)

Hi everybody! You were missed at Lillie's gig last night, Dee. And at Gypsy's on the weekend. Half the people were standing around—without Dee's Dance HUD nobody knows what to do!

I love your new sig :-). Today's installment was just incredible, wasn't it?

  6. Ohhhh, my. I think that may be the best one so far (although I was going along with Void's earlier comment on 'Story Time' up til now). The achingly wistful look of Shelly's last pic held my eye, which made seeing you guys and Muuurrg on the couch in the next frame even more hysterically funny.

And thanks for that Kudo link, Keli.

Edited for names spelled wrong. I think I spelled Void right but it went downhill in a rush after that.

I used to live in the SF Bay area.  It is a good 15-20F warmer if you drive across the Bay Bridge, throught the tunnel west to the burbs of Concord/Walnut Creek.  I am glad you had a good time.

It was not anywhere near as warm this year as it should have been, but you're right about that most of the time. Can be high fifties at Half Moon Bay, high sixties in the City, pushing ninety in Walnut Creek and a hundred and three in Sacramento all at the same time.

My short getaway was colder than usual. I was hoping to get a good pic of Shasta since I knew it would have lots of snow, but the day I went by the clouds were down to about 8000 feet, so all I could see was the bottom half. I did get a halfway decent pic of Lassen the day before.

  8. I found a furniture place, but I'm not sure it's the right one. I so hope it is. It would be soooo cool if they actually decided to do a scene right here. I'm ready. Got the Leica ready to go with the last ever roll of Kodachrome (I'd been saving it for a special occasion).

This armchair is comfy. I hope I don't run out of popcorn.

.  I wandered around Pamela's store last night and was blown away at how amazing her stuff looked... and it'd be very difficult to claim they all live in a house with barbed wire on the outside when everything inside looks so
    classy
    .  :smileytongue:

Next time inworld I'm going to Pamela's store and bagging an LM. One, it's about time I got some decent furniture. Two, I'm thinking of hanging around there just to see if can catch a shoot. I'll be the one with the camera and the box of popcorn:smileywink:. I wonder if Pamela has any folding chairs?

ok, yeah I did propose the name SLUM (expanded to Second Life User Messaging, and someone added System), because "SL, um..." had such a cute ring to it.

Well I'm sorry I gave Machine Gun Keli the credit, then. I'd remembered it from her thread but somehow forgot it was your idea (the name seems to have stuck, and I'm not surprised). At least that particular record has been set straight.

  11. First: put down the gun. You couldn't hit a bull in the fanny with a bucket of wheat anyway, unless you shoot way better than you drive.

I've neither lost nor gained friends because of SLum (Roseysun: Keli was the one who came up with that name. She'll probably post a link to that). But, somewhat surprisingly, I did get a contact from a friend just because of SLum, someone I hadn't talked to in quite a while. I have since learned that friend has at least one new friend because of contacting me. Pretty cool, I say.

I'm still using Phoenix one rev down (.908, I believe), so I don't think that 'New Releases' thing applies.

My PC is a bit more than two years old, and it was no great shakes then. I'm due for an upgrade soon; still shopping.

  12. Dres, I didn't see this when it started, so it took me some time to read up to get current (even allowing for the fact I skimmed a bit). I'll answer the OP question first:

You'll fit in anywhere there are people with brains. I've seen enough of your posts here to know that.

The commentary you made after that requires a lot more thought and a lot more knowledge. My answer is 'Why the Hell are you asking me? Do I look like I have relationships figured out?" All I know is it's never easy. And it can be painful. And that even when you're right—when the person you wanted got it all wrong and should have never done what they did; when you were perfect—it doesn't mean a damn thing. You're still the one with the hurt.

I'm pretty cautious about all of that. I'm old enough (and just shut up about Janis Joplin) to have learned some things about relationships. The one thing I do believe is that knowing the hurt might come shouldn't stop you from going on, if that's what you want.

can I just say it's funny that people don't actually notice this in places where it happens on a regular basis and/or is built into the structure... in pool stages and even bars are very popular in several resort areas

Actually you're right. I think people still enjoy the novelty of things like that, but are not as 'enchanted' (for want of a better word) as some of the people I heard interviewed in the news story. I still think the spontaneity of it all and the oddness of having an orchestra in what is usually the public pool had an SL feel.

    omg! I thought carrot!

first I thought tomato but then remembered it was a fruit, so I settled on carrot. don't know why. that is rather odd.

Okay now I'm starting to get a little worried.....

  15. Ishy! You ruined it! I read through all the comments before I played it, so naturally I had to think of something that was neither carrot nor cucumber, having read your post. I assume the most common response is carrot?

BTW after rejecting the two aforementioned I came up with 'tomato' which is a fruit. They tell me. Some days  you just can't win.

  16. From: Dillon Levenque

    To: Complaint Department

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I've been through all the instructions on this thread and I cannot for the life of me find what it is I am to complain about. This is ridiculous. How can one complain if one does not know about what one should be complaining? (Okay, that mighta been one too many but whatever).

It seems to me that any truly effective complaint department should have a list. One would select from the offered list, then (if need be) add a bit more information in one of those little boxes that says "Additional Comments". It does not matter that the offered list will never contain anything close to that which one wishes to complain about; they never do. That's the point.

    Very Truly Yours

Too late and I have not seen or heard from her since.
    :o

I was afraid of that. Hopefully she didn't spend enough time to read anyone's posts but your OP so the only person she'll avoid is you. I can live with that. And she'll eventually get over it.

ETA That Complaint Department thread is really good. I somehow missed it and saw it for the first time yesterday. Very clever stuff.

When I joined Second Life about three years ago, it was a fantasy world where I could be whoever/whatever I wanted to be and nobody cared.  Nobody could hear me and all they knew about me was what I revealed.  Then voice came along and female avatars without voice were accused of being males in real life.  Now SL seems to be becoming an extension of Real Life with not much chance at being anonymous anymore with all the profile pages on the web, etc..  I can't be anonymous anymore with out making excuses.

Second Life just isn't as appealing as it was three years ago.  And VWR 2 won't log in anymore, anyway.

There does seem to be a lot of moving in that direction—the idea that we can all make SL an extension of RL. When the new profiles thing started that appeared to be the default. But it's pretty easy to change that. I still respond to SL the same way as always and I've no plans to change. Some people want different things; for those people the opportunity exists. If it brings more people who spend more money and tell more stories, then cool. Can't hurt. I don't think that anyone who does not wish to change must do so.
