I can live with those options.  I especially like the Friends Only option you will be adding but I think all sections of the profile should have privacy options.  I may only want my friends to see my RL section while the rest of my profile is only visible to SL users that are logged in.  The social networking widgets should also be something you can choose to have visible on your profile.

You won't be able to please everyone but this is a positive step in the right direction.  Thanks Fredrik.

I checked my own profile and if I have 'Show in Search' unchecked, my web profile does require a log in to see it.  I'm not sure if I am still searchable from within SL though with that unchecked.  That was the old behavior of the option.

I think that is the plan.  I can easily see new residents existing in a facebook like existence and using a web browser version of SL to only play dress up with items they purchase from a select few content creators.  I hope this isn't the case, but they do seem to be moving more and more to the 2d web from the 3D world.

Well one Linden did comment on one of the Jira requests that they are overhauling the privacy settings to give users better control over what is shared with the web.  While I think the privacy settings should have been in place from the beginning, I am going to keep my fingers crossed they will get it right without removing the ability to have fully functioning profiles from within SL for those that choose to opt out of the sharing of their profiles on the web.

This stinks.  I intended my profile to be for other Second Life residents only.  I have no need or desire to have my profile for my fantasy character to be on the web or linked to social networking sites that are designed for real world networking and data mining.  My only option now is to remove all information from my profile or to hide it from search.  Can we please have profiles for Second Life users only?  Thank you

Free advertising for SL and a hope they can leech some new accounts from the facebook gravy train.  There is just no need at all for anyone not using SL to be able to have access to our profiles.
