  1. @ Alexi and any Linden moderator This issue is affecting everyone now and must be stopped. Combined with the phishing email rumour that is spreading through SL, you need to get hold of this issue at once and sort it, max priority. This is the sort of problem that can kill a site, so it cannot be doing SL any good.
  2. @Jaidyn I have to take issue with you here Jaidyn. THis forum is for ALL users of the Secondlife platform, not merely those who access SL via the Linden viewers. We help (if we can) ANYone who posts here , not merely Linden Viewer users. I'm sure you did not mean to imply that users of other viewers are not supposed to use these forums. The relative merits and demerits of specific viewers are not appropriate subjects for discussion here, but anyone who has issues accessing Secondlife is more than welcome to post here!
  3. @ Peggy Firstly I think Kelley is a little hyped up over some fairly rough rides that recent restarts have given some sims. I had to get ours moved twice recently to find a stable server for a homestead, thanks to some unforseen bugs. The last two rolls have been as smooth as a billiard ball, so that was OK. As to caches, TPV (well Phoenix at least) give users the option to put their cache wherever (within sensible limits) they wish so that is just plain wrong. V2 code is OK (not great, but adequate), the interface was dreadful, and is now barely acceptable, but a lot of it is personal taste. SL is a growing changing environment, but it has not been managed well at times, and that IS down to Linden Lab, who could and should have done better. We take a bit of the rough with the smooth, but sometimes I feel that the drive to innovate obscures the need to stabilize. It'd be nice to have some time after the introduction of a new feature to "get used" to it before the next "shiny" is introduced. LL have a habit of bringing half-developed ideas to the grids and forcing us to live with them while they are beaten into the shape they should have had at the outset. We are not all innovation junkies. Some of the platitudes you quote are just plain fatuous - your comment about moving forwards just illustrates my point. I don't find it fun when I need to upgrade my PC just to keep pace with Geeks.
  4. @Oskar Update on Woods of Heaven and......all is good and stable. Sim No. unchanged as expected, server version is as in the updated notes. I noticed a version change a few hours before release and rolls, I assume another bug was caught prior to roll. Nice one Team, thankyou.:matte-motes-grin:
  5. @Oskar Happy third Rezday, Oskar...wow you are almost as old as me!:matte-motes-wink: On a more serious note, I hope today's roll is as smooth as last week's, Good Luck!
  6. @ Tristizia, & Void... Yes, I got it backwards, D'oh! Makes far more sense as it is! Sorry Mr Moderator!:matte-motes-bashful:
  7. @ Moderator And this thread as well. Is someone at LL trying to bury negative comment?? The reason I say that is that two posts which appear to be entirely legitimately in the Viewer thread have been moved to the Server Blog and rendered read only by a moderator. Your logic seems at best perverse.
  8. @ Moderator I am completely baffled as to why this thread of SL viewer (which seems perfectly correctly located) has been moved to the SL server Blog. To call it perverse would be to put it mildly. These comments refer to a bug in the SLV2.8 and nothing (to my knowledge) in SL server software. I intend to take this matter further, unless of course I am missing something? What I find utterly infuriating is that the new post is marked "Read Only"!
  9. @Oskar I'm a bit confused, but I should also say that the server version rolled to our sim this UK afternoon does exactly what you said it would do - i.e. it seems to adress the sim performance issues that Homesteads have had these last 2 weeks. That is a BIG "Well Done LL". "Just one more thing..." as Columbo might have said... The release notes refer to server no. 11.07.19.236065, we have server no. 11.07.19.236133. Is that significant in any way, Oskar? Sim no. 5860 Woods of Heaven.
  10. @Oskar No. OK, I was told by another resident who had not posted here that some content previously unrezzed had corrupted well after the "fix" was rolled. It now transpires that the object had been out during the period you referred to. My error, and for that I apologise. As to everything else, I hope I am proven wrong, but scripts are most definitely running more slowly, whatever they are, than before the last roll, and while you say that this merely represents a truer picture of how much impact script time has on server performance, I still find that difficult to square with what little I know of script-simulator interractions. It is very true that different sims seem to react differently to scripts and sim 5188, which I recall being on a while back, seems worse than most. Why is there so much variation when we pay the same amount? So there we have it Oskar, you have me marked as a ne'erdowell it would seem. I'll live with it.
  11. Well, I wasn't going to bother, but tonight really was bad. It is not simply the slow deprecation of V1.xx viewers is it Oskar? Phoenix Viewer 1.5.2 (1102) May 14 2011 17:52:51 (Phoenix Viewer Release) Release Notes Built with MSVC version 1400 (SSE2, LAA) You are at 257513.5, 321998.1, 21.5 in Woods of Heaven located at sim5188.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.14.159:12035) Second Life Server 11.07.12.235430 Release Notes CPU: Intel® Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (3411.18 MHz) Memory: 16361 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 580/PCI/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.7533 OpenGL Version: 4.1.0 libcurl Version: libcurl/7.20.1 OpenSSL/0.9.8j zlib/1.2.3 J2C Decoder Version: OpenJPEG: 1.4.0.697, Runtime: 1.4.0 Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.750000 Qt Webkit Version: 4.7.1 Packets Lost: 0/36808 (0.0%) ISP connection fibre optical cable, 10Mps Now that is a reasonable package, but scripts were running painfully slowly tonight, and not just on my sim. Kalepa has been awful for weeks now and it seems that Whimsy is going the same way....too many sound scripts? (Too many for current SL, that is). I'm fed up of this. You want me to be reasonable, Oskar. I want to be reasonable too, but just lately I have not found much to be reasonable about.
  12. @Oskar Replaced? Er...by whom? I thought I'd add my message here to an existing post rather than create yet another. Woods of Heaven is poorly again. Sim no 5188 (Woods of Heaven) is mostly running TD in the 0.95- 080 range - not brilliant, but tolerable for a while. However today, those dreaded spikes are back when TD plummets and spare time drops to almost zero. Scripts virtually stop running and my avatar cannot move. Now last week you had to reroll all Homesteads back from the TD fix..is that going to be needed again, or are you going to wait until Homesteads are crashing about our ears? I know my personal script load is high, but there are not than many scripts overall running on this sim, about 1200 maximum when all 3 of us that live there are online and script time rarely goes over 8ms. For the umpteenth time, Oskar, just what is going on?
  13. @Hitomi Yes, it IS still occurring. For what it's worth, I do not think that Mesh will be ready for SLCC, but I do not think that will stop LL pushing the system out to an unwilling and largely unprepared user-base. It isn't some Machiavellian plan to get all us SL oldies to upsticks and leave, it is just that the people that made the decision are so far removed from the interface that the pain and loss to residents just does not impact on them. This was also clear during the content loss debacle last year. Those Lindens that deal with us are to a certain extent between a rock and a hard place: we, the userbase, who are are screaming at them to stop, to sort out the problems before we lose even more irreplaceable content, and the leaders of SL, who are dead-set on meeting their own deadlines, which it seems to me were imposed with very liitle regard to the actual difficulty of the task. If, as seems very likely now, Mesh is NOT ready for SLCC, it will be seen within Linden Lab as a major failure, and heads will roll. The sad thing to my mind is that some excellent people will go simply because they failed to meet an unreasonable deadline. And, Yes, I know that Mesh is present in a highly limited capacity on a selected server somewhere in SL. There is a world of difference between that and having Mesh rolled out to the grid as a whole.
  14. @Oskar OK, I have to ask, and I'm not being a stirrer/troll/flamer/ne'erdowell or whatever.... What is going on? Tuesday the Main Grid was rolled. Frankly Woods of Heaven (now sim 5188, was 2917, 2517, earlier 4686) is no better, in fact TD is marginally worse. It wouldn't be an older server, would it, Oskar? No matter it seems to be working, best leave well alone. Please don't roll us again this week, we're still dizzy. Wednesday should've been all the RC channels according to the Google calendar, but it looks as though only Magnum was actually rolled. Thursday....LeTigre. So whence Bluesteel?? I repeat, Oskar (or Maestro), what is going on? I know Mesh is proving to be a B....., but leaving your customers in the dark is NOT GOOD.
  15. This is a tricky one. I'm not really sure what is going on, but Yes, several scripted items have exhibited what I'd call aberrant behaviour in the past 24 hours. Two of the items animate my avatar, so whether that is a factor I don't know, but I now seem to be playing an animation that I've never seen before when I press <enter> for chat. Not the "Typing" animation, which plays as one types, but one specifically as I hit <enter>. Despite going through my (extensive) list of gestures and animations I cannot find it. It's almost a "thumbing nose" animation, but I don't have one!! Clearing cache made no difference. Last night my Amethyst Collar simply stopped working, neither I nor my partner could get a menu, but I could see the collar in invisibles, it was still Locked, and in edit, prior to a relog, its name had vanished! After the relog all seemed normal. Another item, a Posture collar, had been unlocked ang removed earlier, but the "head Up" animation persisted, even though I used the "stop animating my avatar" routine. I had to wear the collar, reset the pose and remove it to stop the animation. So all in all something screwwy is happening, but I do not know what is causing it. Whether this has anything to do with the "permissions" issue referred to in another thread here, I don't know either, but I'd be willing to bet it is linked in some way.
  16. @Oskar This is a report not a whinge... As you know sim 2917 (a Homestead) Woods of Heaven was moved to Magnum RC channel on Wednesday. We saw an immediate improvement in TD, with it staying in the "high 9's" for 95% of the time. However there were spikes, big ones, and spare time was very low (though as I said I wasn't surprised by that). Then tonight UK time, about 2 hours ago, we had three sim crashes in quick succession. Whether these were related to scripts associated with Mars Tamale's Ring of Compliance I do not know, but thanks to prompt action by a team targetted on our sim by Support (my thanks to JamieW Scout), our sim was moved back to the Main Server. Now TD is slightly lower, (0.92-0.98 ish), spare time is apparently back up, and no script issues, so there you are. Maybe not perfect, but far far better! I hope this info is of use to you, but in the face of a storm of "LLdoesn't care" shouts, I'd like to say thankyou for your prompt attention.:matte-motes-kiss:
  17. @Oskar Thankyou Oskar for your hard work on getting the Homesteads sorted. We see 0.98-0.995 TD now with our sim, and it is clear that some of our scripts eat up sim time, since script time is up and spiking and free time very low...just about what I'd expected. You are at 257513.4, 321980.2, 21.8 in Woods of Heaven located at sim2917.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.0.150:13001) Second Life RC Magnum 11.07.11.235385. So we are now on Magnum. @Zena, as far as HUD AOs being a thing of the past, I don't know who you know, but no-one I know uses viewer side AOs yet and nearly everyone I know runs Phoenix.
  18. Thanks for the info, Oskar. Does that mean we are no longer Main Server, but one of the RC channels now?
  19. Oskar Thanks. Mea Culpa re the Grid Status page it's my IE9. I ran the page in compatibilty mode and the post was there. Duh. I cannot get back to Woods to check (lifestyle issue - you don't want to know), so I'd be grateful if you could check. Ay :matte-motes-bashful:
  20. Oskar I'm a little confused. Firstly the reference to today's Main Grid roll has vanished from the grid status page - have the rolls been completed? If so Secondly, Woods of Heaven, sim no. 2917 is still running Server 11.06.29.234329 - that is last week's roll. How come? Is there a problem?
  21. @Damekko Firstly, you appear to be using the correct file type, .jpg, and downloading from your harddrive, which is also correct. Now I assume you have tried on a number of occasions to do this and have got the error each time? SL seems to have periodic glitches where updating profiles are concerned, so sometimes it's worth persisting. Secondly in may be too large a file to download in the allotted time - you might have a slow connection which will drastically limit your upload speed, or it may simply be that is is a highly detailed and therefore very large file. You might try compressing it before you send it - that might work. Since, apparently, v2 restricts you to loading files from your PC (if I read the other answer correctly), you will be limited. I do not use (yet) a v2 type viewer so I don't know the details.
  22. @Wolfbaginski Yes, that is an odd effect, it makes me think that the "fix" for script-sim interactions is intimately involved with sim-crossing vehicles. I hadn't noticed the improvement you saw, but once the "fix" was rolled it certainly did put the crossing issue back where it used to be. It's not just vehicles though! I played a game of boules yesterday and I am considering applying to NASA as a replacement launcher for ISS missons after what a few of my throws did. I wonder if the way the sim reads vectors has been borked? There's enough going on here to cause a fair few headaches among the release team. I wonder what tomorrow will bring?
  23. @Oskar and the ReleaseTeam It also gives you folk another week to work out how to improve on the string and sealing-wax fix of the Mono2 upgrade from last week. I hope all the Team at Linden Lab had a good 4th!:matte-motes-sunglasses-1: Now, please guys, get it right next time, eh? I guess a pilot fix willl go out to a RC channel tomorrow, or am I being naiive?:matte-motes-wink: Addition: OK now that the calendar is revised and working on the Grid Status page, I see that no releases are scheduled for the RC channels either. Now should I draw the conclusion that you guys had several days off over the weekend and last week, so no programming was done? That's not so surprising when you consider how big a holiday the 4th is to the USA!
  24. I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and say "It ain't fixed, Oskar". It's better, but it's not back where it was and there's a lot of sims, some of them Full-regions where performance after that second roll is barely improved at all. For me, I'd say we have about 80% of the sparetime back, but I wonder just how much of this is caused by providing the tools necessary to count and then limit scripts on a sim? Perhaps the intial throttle was a bit too severe? You are at 257371.6, 321842.1, 901.8 in Woods of Heaven located at sim2917.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.0.150:13001) Second Life Server 11.06.29.234329. I'm a long way from being convinced that the pain is over, and that is a surprise. I just wonder how much we aren't being told? Now some of you might think that I'm just plain ungrateful; after all it is a much better situation most of us find ourselves in now. Well I look at it this way: I pay a substantial amount of RL money to lease my sim and I expect my lessor to be honest with me. In the UK that would be backed up by law, but SL is US, and your laws are different. I have a feeling as I've said before that this is merely the thin end of a very fat wedge. My personal script use is high, I admit, but, thanks to good script management, our sim was running as sweet as a nut before this Mono2 performance upgrade was introduced, and now it is just about OK. That IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Oskar, Maestro and Kelly, just WHAT is going on?
  25. @Wolf Yes, OK, I took the inclusion a bit far by tarring you with the apologist brush, so I apologise for that. Having said that, Yes it seems that the Homestead I live on is now working better, though I maintain my opinion that some (servers) work better than others. I guess it might depend on what is happening on the other cores of the server that we are sitting on. And Yes, also it is far better to have good code put out to correct a problem - I never suggested that LL rush to a conclusion - merely that they tell us that they had noticed! That server code is a tangled mess of accumulated crud is a back-handed compliment at best, since LL composed the crud. It seems likely that LL is borderline competent when it comes to viewer design, since before long the Firestorm viewer will be a far better instrument to use in SL than the (admittedly now much improved) Standard Viewer 2. Why that would make them any less incompetent at designing and implementing SL2 I don't know and that prospect does not fill me with hope. That Linden Lab was once populated with bright insightful folk is most likely true, but whether it is so equipped now in entirely another matter. However, that is off topic and I shall clamber down from the parapet and get on with my (second) life. @Cincia: SL is NOT a game. Sassy is correct; in terms of communication and damage control this was an abject failure of a service company that needs to sort its procedures out.
