No experience with Orbs as I have never used one but can they not be set to secure a height range of say 2000-2200? Seems to me such would be ideal for those wishing to block people flying into their skybox without hindering through access at other heights.

Added-Ok see that was what Extrude is proposing. Would either setting be viable whether scripted or land setting?

You can set them to scan the exact size of your skybox if you're simply trying to keep people out of it. With some people, that's not what they're trying to do.

The whole issue seems to stem from the fact that unchecking 'Anyone can visit' only sets banlines up to 50 meters, but mainlanders also want to keep people out of their skyboxes.

What if that setting also made banlines above idk 2,000 meters, so that mainlanders can have privacy in their skybox without needing to add everyone to their banlist that entered the region. Seems like it would be a win for both mainland residents and explorers alike.

But that won't defend people's Precious Air...

We all know about the massive amount of sims /regions that abuse the use of bots in order to create a false traffic number , right? You know those sims you go to that were seemingly active according to their traffic results , but when you get there , it's just a bunch of bots with the sims group title on, sitting at desk,  appearing to be doing NPC Jobs,  etc.

Surely I'm not the only one who noticed huge clusters of green dots on the world map, teleported to them and found out that it was a weird group of bots , sitting In the sky,  right ? Sometimes related to breedables it seems.

What about the ones that teleport into areas and stand at the entrance,  scraping data ? Sometimes with a name like " AutomateSL" >`>.

Has anyone else encountered similar situations or noticed these uses of bots?

In marketing terms, I think it's called a loss leader. The hype for 2 weeks each year gets thousands of people into the store, many of whom wouldn't have gone there otherwise. It also creates good will toward the brand, and makes some of those who got a free mesh head be more inclined to buy one later. Then so many people have the free heads (often the first mesh head they've had), that skin makers want to sell skins to fit them. We don't want to all look exactly the same after all. Thus it creates a big market for EvoX skins, which in turn creates a big market for more EvoX heads.

And that also meant that skin makers would be encouraged to use Lelutka's proprietary UV instead of the formerly more common ones used by their competitors.

Maybe I should make some changes now?😃

    Maybe.

Or you could just think of yourself as "unique."

As for not spamming messages, this is, in reality, the annoying part. Supposedly,  the other device I mentioned doesn't do that either. The ban messages are apparently LL system messages you receive when you get added to a parcel ban list in a region you're currently in.  I'd be interested to know if that is indeed the case, because these messages can't be selected in your chat in the same way that object messages can - so far it's not been possible to identify the source of the message in the usual way one would.

Yes, they're system messages and this orb sends them too. Anyone entering the region at any point who would be on the ban list will just see "You have been banned indefinitely," and then "You have been removed from this land's ban list" when they leave the region. That will include other landowners.

Finally, considering I've never once complained about either banlines or orbs, either on these forums or in-world, I don't appreciate being labelled as being part of a group who "constantly whines" just for pointing a few things out and trying to seek some clarification, especially as in general, I've always agreed with most of the points of view expressed by you both.

Some things you just have to get used to.

If I own two parcels directly across a Linden road from each other, will I be able to join them together?  This answer [Link] is the only thing I could find on the subject.  It states, "I have read in sources that I thought were reliable that non-contiguous parcels cannot be joined. That is not true. I own mainland that is bisected by a Linden road. I was able to join parcels that are on opposite sides of the road with no problem at all."

I just want to make sure that's really the case before I buy the parcel across the street from me.

    Thanks

You should be able to if they're all in the same region - however, if you're doing it to share the land-impact pool it isn't necessary for them to be joined. Your land impact pool is automatically the sum of the capacity of all the parcels you own in that region whether they're joined or not.

So if I'm flying at 75 or 100 metres above the ground, are you saying that I won't know whether or not I'm allowed to fly over the parcel unless a security orb tells me to go away (or kicks me out)?

Realistically, yes. You get very little warning for ban lines generally, even if you have them turned on.

Speaking only for myself,  I don't mind ban lines as long as object entry is also turned off, because it's usually easy enough to get going again when you hit them. In the water it'd be nice to have a buoy or something at the corner of the lot because you can't really see property lines unless you're glued to the mini-map, but they're usually not an issue.

Flying in Second Life is generally similar to the type of real-world flying called "VFR" or "Visual Flight Rules." A pilot's responsibility under them is to "see and avoid." Again personally, I'm fine with your having a zero-warning teleport-home orb that turns me into a rabbit if the scan area is tight to your skybox, because I'll try to avoid hitting the skybox anyway.

What bothers me - and I'm not screaming about it, or calling people griefers about it, but it does bother me - is when I'm suddenly and unexpectedly sent somewhere else when I have no warning that it's going to happen while I'm traveling through open air. I can't avoid something I can't see.

Having ban-lines and zero second orbs are NOT a violation of the LL ToS, punting unwelcome trash off ones property is NOT a violation of the LL ToS.

Trespassing on property where you KNOW you are unwelcome with intent to harass, IS a ToS Violation.

Home owners defending their privacy from unwelcome trash are NOT SL Criminals.

Fake Explorers who habitually commit criminal trespass, ARE.

Here's an interesting question - let's say that there's some private property which the owner has protected with a zero-second orb, as is their right, but hasn't set ban lines. Now let's say it's something that isn't obviously a house - say a looovvvveleigh pyramid or such. Is this trespassing? How would the trespasser know they were unwelcome without the ban lines?

Probably as a result of the OP constantly referring to anyone with ban-lines by the usual collection of demeaning insults used by over-entitled trespass types, "morons", "imbeciles", etc.

Constantly referring to people with insults? Heaven forfend...

Hmmm, who exactly was it who claimed that because real-world airlines fly many thousands of meter above peoples homes, thi "proved" that SL's criminal trespassers had a RIGHT to park their jets in my living room?

    Wait... That was you.

YOU tried using "real-world" to fraudulently claim the "Right to trespass".

It was you who brought up real-world trespassing laws first, Zarifisento-Sama.

They don't have to worry about them now, unless they are over-entitled habitual criminal trespassers. Don't want to be punted and banned by the orb, don't trespass on private property, that is clearly indicated as such by the ban-lines.

    [. . .]

Total BS. if they are at ground level, they CANNOT enter the parcel at all, because ban-lines, and never trigger the orb. If they trigger the orb and get punted and banned, it's because they are criminals who deliberately IGNORED the warning given by the existence of the ban-lines.

I decided to test this by seeking out a specific lot with those settings. I was using Catznip, which has the gold standard of mini-maps. At non-assisted avatar flight speeds, my long-suffering testing alt hit the ban lines at basically the exact moment that the lot turned red in the mini map. If they had been flying slightly higher they would have been in the orb with no warning. Bear in mind that I was completely focused on this task rather than, say, the task of flying an airplane.

I'm not saying for a moment that you can't set your lot up the way it is; obviously you can. But rather than trying to cover yourself by referring to real-world laws, you should just say, "I want to knock down all the airplanes!" and laugh like the villain in a Japanese superhero TV show.

(Not even going to say what lot I was seeking out... Found it, though....)

So you know why airports are unpopular neighbours, AND why every time a new airport is proposed, or an existing one wants to expand, "local home owners" launch protest campaigns, AAND you already know that aviation authorities impose limits on the number of flights, and the approach routes they use

Nope, it's general aviation. Call the tower and fly right on in. And if your airplane starts eating grass you've got a major problem.

Oddly enough I put those two adjacent 8192s up for sale at a decent price for Blake access, but enough that I would actually make a point to take the sales proceeds back into cash via the Tillia mechanism, and voila, they sold within a week. I had figured I'd have to wait to sell them and just let them sit there for months. Nope. So it may be weak the land market but it's not dead. I'm not watching the whole sim that used to have a marina beside my new 4096 home. Direct access to the coast and to Blake. It fronts a LL general water sim and is south facing. This will sell fast.

That's something that the, "People are forced to overpay to land flippers" faction are overlooking - unless they're paying a lot of attention to the market, the lots they see for sale are the ones that aren't selling. Reasonably-priced lots may have been set for sale and then sold before they could even notice them.

    On MY parcel in particular?

Ok... But you won't like the answer.

I'm delighted with your answer, because it makes your side of the argument look like the unreasonable ones.

Issac Newton called; an object using physical motion, like an airplane, can't completely change direction instantly. The "red mini-map" thing is a canard - even if you're using a viewer that shows them, they only show up when you're almost to the lot. Even five seconds of warning would, surprisingly enough, mean you'd find a lot fewer "arrogant vehicle fanatics" on your ban list.
