We specifically asked them about butts and nudity before. Butts apparently are consider General material.
@Tommy Linden- Please clarify if butts are now only allowed in the Adult section, since they are all over the How Does Your Avatar Look Today thread and even in this thread. The prior rules about nudity in the General sections simply meant no nipples and no genitals.
That was before they changed the guidelines.
Specifically: No Nudity or Adult Content: All content posted on the Second Life Forums must be rated “General” per our Maturity Ratings. Keep in mind, this does not include content posted specifically in the “Adult Content Forum” section.
Bare butts are nude. I wouldn't tell people that bare butts are ok without definitive statements from LL employees.
I am going to err on the side of caution. If its covered at the beach I will only post that in the Adult section.

Butts have already been posted in this thread. I know mine has been.
That may be the case, but we did get clarification about nudity on the forums. I just dont want to see anyone get smacked for the new guidelines.

Beauty about a newspaper is you don't need to charge it. The only crash that happens if you drop it and the pages go all over the place.
I do remember virtual news stands and papers in world.
Sadly a daily newspaper costs around $2 usd where i live. Used to be 25 cents when i was a kid.. They didnt get any bigger, not more news in them, just jacked up the rice for the same news you can see all day on TV or hear on the radio.
oooh, do i have to describe what a radio is for kids these days? I know the stream everything online..

What is a "Newspaper"....
🤔It's literally what its name implies. A stack of large very thin paper that has the news of the world printed on it. Local news inside, big stories on the cover. And on Sunday, why Sunday dear Maryanne was a magical day when the first 8 pages were filled with colorful cartoon strips.
Now we just look crap up on the net.

I just know I'd prefer not to land in a sim where women are being roasted, ground up, and eaten.
Always women. Men don't taste good or something?
Anyway, whatever people are doing on this thread to help prevent that you have my vote.
too lean, not enough soft bits.. I mean, seriously, 99.999% of all men in SL are hard core body builders. Women have the soft curves. And they change their clothing, would you honestly want to eat someone who hasn't changed their outfit in 5 years?

See, LL will clean up the forums of the off topic bickering... I would bet that will be coming shortly in this thread. If only they could clean up the MP of the ripped and copyright protected things. They say they cant without the holder filing a DMCA but we ll know that LL owns everything we upload anyway so they should be able to do as they wish. Personally i think its more the $L they make on the sales and upload fees they dont want to lose.
ETA Don't make me pull this thread over, turn around and take us all home. I want to go to the beach as much as anyone, but the bickering is getting a bit much. Don't you want to lie on the beach and get a nice tan, ogle some cute boys or girls and have a nice picnic lunch?

There are some groups inworld that try to help with peer-support, but they're fewer, less populated, and have smaller and smaller sims than they used to have. Less than a year ago Survivors of Suicide was promoted by LL as a good support group, but after it's leader decided to quit hosting it for RL reasons, a few of it's moderators created a new group to take it's place. Then the owner of that group disappeared, so the remaining moderator created still another group.
One problem is that every time a new group forms, it takes time to regrow the original group numbers. Another problem is that people want to use the services of such groups, but don't want to support them financially or with their time as advisors and moderators.
Why wouldnt they just promote someone to the new owner of the group?
I was in a group for a store years ago, I had to take a break from SL for RL reasons and when i came back i found myself as the sole member (aside from my alt) of that group and the new owner. The store owner left SL and everyone left the group while i was on hiatus. I dont see the point of starting a new group just because the previous group creator leaves.
I have said many many times, if you cant afford to run a sim for fun not profit, then dont open a sim for free. If you want to help people and provide a place for volunteers to come offer their services, dont get bent when people dont help pay for the sim.

The "Triggered" wording has very much become associated with mockery, minimally implying those affected need to suck it up, often worse.
This incidentally is why the words used in professional & medical care change every few years, the lingo needs to be refreshed or negative stereotypes and connotations form that actually impact patient outcomes.
If we still called it Shell Shock perhaps those suffering from it might get the care they need. Take the life out of a condition by changing the words and you take the care out of treating it.

Its funny. You cite GTA V as being this horrible game because you "can" kill innocent civilians, yet you dont actually have to do so. And its only banned in about 3 or 4 of the countries of the world. I really think you are making a mountain out of amole hill here.
Yes, there are dens of iniquity in SL. Good luck finding them. Most are invite only and extremely hard to find.
In the 14 years I have been in SL, and most of those active in the DD/BG community, I have been approached twice once by a child av looking for adult times and once by an adult av looking for a place to find child avs to have adult times with.
Paedophillia is not as rampant in SL as some people make it out to be. Its like they want it to be that bad for some reason.
There was a woman, many moons ago, who came to me when i was an escort and asked if i could fulfill a fantasy she has had for a long time. It was impossible to do in RL so she decided to try it in SL. Simply put, she wanted me to wear a monster av and forcibly.. use her. Then while in a canine position, she wanted me to shred her back and rip out her heart. Personally, i was very concerned by this request. We spoke about it for several weeks, both of us trying to find where this fantasy could have come from and why. In the end, she decided that it was from reading dark fantasy bodice rippers at a very young age and wanted to go through with it anyway. For me, it was the $10,000Lshe was willing to pony up that decided it.
TL:DR people have weird fantasies, who are we to judge them unless they involve children?

I think the author was remarking toward the hype surrounding SL, he had that little snippet I quoted written about an article I believe was 15 years ago. Check out the archived link from the OP, and you can view the full article without having to go through their paywall.

I mean, yeah.. it has been 15 years which is like an eternity when it comes to computing. Few people remember GeoCities, Everquest, MSN messenger, yahoo groups, etc, etc, etc. They are just not relevant to web 2.0, which now consists mostly of social media, which is far from an improvement in my opinion.
This author lacks vision though, it is pretty obvious what the bigger companies desire, the metaverse is going to be yet another layer sitting on top of the internet, which will generate trillions in revenue. It will be both virtual reality, as well as augmented reality. Meta wants in on that game early, I imagine their vision of our future is a steady stream of ads being projected into our eyeballs non stop, along with subliminal programming to get us to consume more.
The article is rubbish.Pssst, its been 19 years since SL was launched.

Have you guys read this recent article in the Telegraph about Meta and Mark Zuckerberg?

There's a scathing, absolutely SAVAGE paragraph on SL in it:
23 hours ago, Vanity Fair said:Zuckerberg’s company is sensitive to comparisons between the metaverse concept and Second Life, a mid-2000s internet-based multiplayer game memorably dubbed “Sadville” by technology website The Register. Sadville was the metaverse of its day: corporations such as Coca-Cola and IBM set up virtual offices within the game, convinced they had found the future of commerce. Fifteen years later, few remember Sadville.
YEEOUCH! That's got to be one of the most dismissive things I've read about SL in the mainstream media for quite a while. Pretty funny for something that still makes millions of dollars a year for its parent company, 19 years after its founding. (Fun fact: did you know that the same Waterfield investment group that now owns Second Life also owns blue-chip investment firm Goldman Sachs? Check out the “Waterfield Network” listing of companies at the bottom of that last link.)
I'm sorry, seeing as I refuse to give them my cc info to read that article, is that the extent of the "scathing paragraph?"
If so, that is hardly scathing. At best its possibly damaging, in reality its 2nd grade insults.

Technics used for non humans may be used for humans too .whatever the reason . Only bits are important . I have tested the mesh : there was no deformer . In addition what is a deformer if it s not a mesh rigged ?
Someone who would have built his own avatar without paying the plugin form blender , avastar created by an user could have the same result in getting in worl a value displayed in the forestorm editor different than his "visual height"
If height has been defined by Sl , so Firestirm is wrong : when lsl scripts report by llhetagentsize 1.80 , firestorm diisplays 2.00
You tell "A 1m cube is a 1m cube no matter what sim you rez it on." Ok . I need to rez 5 cubes of 0.5 meter for the avatar i have submitted . The firestorm editor display 2.17 meters . Since when 0.5 *5 = 2.17 ?
Take off the mesh, leave the shape on and then measure yourself. I would be willing to bet you arent 2.5m tall. The mesh isnt measured by the viewer, the skeleton is. You have ZERO clue as to what you are trying to say.
Height is defined by prim measurement, there has always been a difference between the actual by prim measurement and what the SL viewer says you are. The Firestorm viewer tries to take that difference into account.

[redacted] You don t understand that my original post was not to compare viewers , but to define height
So for you , the size of an avatr , is not based on the physical shape , neither the size of skelentons .
But in addition you are lying by claiming that Firestorm give the "visual" height .
1) when, you put an alpha on your head , the height of your visual aspect change . But does it change something displayed in Forestorm under the tab shape ? No
2) when you load a customisez mesh , is your method in using a cube closed to the avatar gives the value displayed by Fiorestom ? No . You can take for instance the freebie Shark : https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/King-Shark-Bento-Avatar/22683303
The size returned by the value in shape tab in Forestorm gives 2.20 meters with a slider for height in the shape tab set at 39 ( default given by the creator )
But when you measure with a cube , it gives more than 2.53 meters . So 33 centimetes of difference ? And in taking the same argue than you , but against you , you find this correct ?
In fact the value returned by Forestorm doesn t give the height in "vusual aspect" , neither gives some informations about bones , skeletons , physcis of the mesh : it s uncirelated from every possible meaning
If you want other avatars where the value displayed by forestorm is wrong , i have got several others to show you
OK, first off, the "size" of a non human mesh avatar can be wildly off by prim size measurement AND by the viewer. It measures the skeleton. Most non human mesh avatars use a deformer to get the correct shape of the skeleton. Which can give weird measurements.
Secondly, please dont post links to stolen/ripped game content. That av is the property of DC comic and is ripped from one of their games.
Height in SL has been defined by LL. They set the ruler. A prim is the best way to measure your height as its measurements are defined by LL. A 1m cube is a 1m cube no matter what sim you rez it on. If your height , measured by prim, says 2m then your av is 2m tall. I dont care what the viewer says. The viewer doesn't measure your mesh, it measures your skeleton. I have a dragon av that the viewer says i am 3m tall.. The av is over 12m long, so which is correct?

If there isnt clothing on it, its nude... How could you possibly say a bare body part isnt nude? Thats like the definition of nude.
Just because something WAS ok, does not mean it still is under the new guidelines. Nudity and adult content is NOW allowed only in the adult section.
"All content posted on the Second Life Forums must be rated “General” per our Maturity Ratings."
A bare butt isnt General. Its Mature. You cant show a bare butt on a G sim.
