    Obviously BDSM is a fetish, not an identity. In labeling ABDL as being nothing but a fetish, you’re confusing ABDL with Diaper Fetishism. While related, they are not the same. Diaper Fetishism and Infantilism are not the same. One is a fetish, the other is a misunderstood and marginalized lifestyle in much need of some acceptance and understanding in the spirit of pride.

    Yes,  the two often overlap for many people but there are people with a diaper fetish who don’t identity as an Adult Baby, then there are Adult Babies who are a-sexual so it has nothing to do with sex. In purely labeling it a fetish, you’re ignoring the AB part of the AB/DL, and in the process marginalizing ABDL as a whole which is the very reason that it’s becoming a part of pride in many places and why you may see dudes in diapers and pacifiers at pride events, in real life, anyway - the stigma towards ABDL in Second Life is unfortunately still very strong - hence my reason for dropping the ABDL flag into this thread because Adult Babies, many of which are Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, or Asexual, also deserve some acceptance and understanding in the spirit of pride.

    ABDL is not a pride thing, it has nothing to do with sexuality, gender identity or the struggle faced by those from within.

    ABDL is a lifestyle for some people sure, but your desire to wear diapers, dress as a baby and have a mommy or daddy look after you isn’t something that relates to the concept of pride in my view.

    Thats like me saying “Oh I dress goth and live the goth lifestyle, goth flag needs to be at pride”.

    I may be goth, but that’s totally separate to my status as a trans queer person. And has nothing to do with the latter two.

    You might have to explain to me how this has any relation to a gender identity or sexuality.

    Personally I don't see it and I'm part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

    ABDL is a kink/lifestyle sure. And if you choose to engage in that, go nuts, I understand the very valid reasons people do it.

    Some people who identify as LGBTQIA+ may be ABDL, iv known a few myself in RL.

    But it's not a sexuality or a gender identity and definitely not part of the LGBTQIA+ identity/sexuality spectrum.

    I think most of us have heard about "the great flood" even if of different religions or no religion but I think that's where it's symbolism originated from but I did not want to have a religious discussion.  I am irreligious.

    You say this and yet, your first post was you pretty much stating that you are actually religious, and "believe" that the rainbow is a sign of gods covenant.

    Secondly, the "great flood" has its roots in beliefs way older than the belief in your god and there is no evidence what so ever that shows that this so called "great flood" ever actually happened on the scale most christians actually believe it did. It was more likely a small local flood, probably the wearing away of a natural sea wall or tsunami that flooded a large area, at some point in ancient history. Worship of the rainbow, also predates your god by thousands of years, with some of the earliest evidence being found in the Babylonia/Sumerian era. None of these things are in any way special or unique to christianity.

    Lastly, if you want to believe in your god and be a religious individual, that's entirely your choice. However, I would appreciate it if you didn't try to turn pride into some kind of veneration of christianity as a lot of the issues we are facing in the world at the minute is due to the christian right.

    That's not to say you can't celebrate your god and worship your god in your own way, have it it! I just don't feel that pride is a place where religion is really helpful. Especially given the utterly hateful content found in that particular book.

    i do believe, after much inspired thought [we've got some good bud here at the grocers (only in Canada, eh?)], it's come to the time to revolutionize the world, once again.

    let me explain:

    we have in fact two worlds. 1. free accounts, and 2. paid accounts.

    i'd like to hear what the Linden shills and free thinkers have in mind when the discussion comes to separating the free loaders from the paid participants. aside from the technically inevitably insurmountable issues, could we not have total separation of the account species while still keeping whatever use the free accounts are known for. it'd be just like the Teen world. not sure how that worked or what it was like in comparison to the main grid, but i do know they ran concurrently. not like the botched separation of the adult content (and that might be another category for a separate world too) but there'd be a locked door on who's to enter from one grid to another.

    should the paid accounts want to frolic in the midst of the unpaid account world they would, by virtue of their account status, be able to log in to either world at will. it'd just be another grid on the viewer's grid dropdown option. all inventory and land assets would be preserved and maintained (unlike the Beta to Main grid methodology). any land assets rezzed in the free world could equally be rezzed in the paid world.

    free world accounts that stubbornly cling to the old ways of enjoying any and all comforts in the existing world situation would no longer have the privilege of sharing the unbounded glory of what comes from being in the paid account world. such a shame would be world shattering and would elicit a substantial boost from free to paid account signups. given sufficient advance warning of the new world order to come i'm sure the empty map would soon flourish with creative potential. perhaps the contracted moles could lend a hand in setting up some themed realms (like the Horizons and Bellisaria spaces). perhaps preview setups could be entertained. who knows, it may overtake the paid grid in its compelling wonders.

    just what type of ill affects would be generated with their loss; a stampede of closed accounts, a pulling out of an incalculable amount of inworld assets, a spike in hacking retributions, dogs sleeping with cats, who knows what else....

    so. please, if you have any thoughts on how impossible or feasable this separation could be i'd love to have you add/subtract from what is but a rudimentary exercise in formulating a better world. i think it's brilliant but i'm open to discussion. what say you?

    So, to sum up..

    ”Wahh wahh im a snob, wahhh wahhh I want my own personal super special world where I get special privileges because I pay premium monies wahhh wahh”

    Yeah, it’s a stupid idea.

    That was a very bad move by Linden Lab.

    Preaching to the choir. A good number of us have either mentioned, brought this up at user group meetings or submitted Jiras to have this feature re implemented. So far, nothing.

    This looks quite a bit like this feature request.

    And I gave the possibility for this person to implement it via Lua (I extended the Cool VL Viewer Lua features so that it is now possible, and rather easy, for a scripter)... No reply from them so far...

    Tbh I completely forgot about that, my apologies, but in my defence I have suggested ideas multiple times to more than just you. Plus, the features I want to add extend beyond that single request. That particular idea is one of a few and one that sticks out strongly in my mind.

    I will definitely look into Lua in TCV though, thank you for the suggestion.

    I have been curious about viewer development for a while and figured that I might as well give it a go and learn. What's the worst case scenario? I decide it's not for me and I pick up a few extra skills along the way.

    My rl last name is one of the original sl last names. It too is the equivalent of a smith and a very common name. I don't find it remotely insulting. I find it insulting that you think I should be insulted by it being chosen as a last name though. Not your place to decide for other people whether or not their last name is insulting-do better.

    Funnily enough I have the exact same thing. My RL last name is one of the previous used last names. I could care less xD

    Yet you failed to appreciate that there might be reasons why Captain GPT-Obvious's suggestions weren't in the list.

    Chat GPT is irrelevant. It was a tool used to prove a point of how simple it could be to find more adult, normal, last names. Nothing more, nothing less.

    22 minutes ago, Coffee Pancake said:

    Have LL really added thousands of names and completely missed the most obvious ones? Perhaps for nefarious or inept reasons?

    I never said anything about nefarious, those are your words, not mine. And yes, there are pretty large selection of names out there that LL has not chosen. To think they covered everything is asinine.

    22 minutes ago, Coffee Pancake said:

    Thousands of entries spanning well over a decade with many authors that are not copyrighted, or owned by a mega corporation, and half the time not even actual words lets alone names, while ignoring that the vast bulk of all names are not in anyway silly or novelty.

    I don't believe I ever mentioned the current list, I was talking about the trend of only releasing gimmicky new names. Plus, some of the entries on that list have been there since near the beginning of the new last names.

    22 minutes ago, Coffee Pancake said:

    What could the possible reasons for missing most of your list of obvious "normal" names be.

    It's actually really simple - There are rules and restrictions for names that we are not privy to.

    Again, it was proving a point of how easy it could be to find last names, that are normal, that haven't been used.

    No they weren't. You didn't check .. one was active right now, many were used, lots were trademarks and would beg legal to sign off on them and at least one was copyrighted by the mouse.

    The bulk of the unused names were the international or ethnic equivalents of "Smith" which will never make the list because it's insensitive bordering on insulting.

    I did check, so I missed one or two, and no many weren't used, you are exaggerating. I went through the list and checked against the list of past last names, all the ones I searched for hadn't been used.

    Also, just because YOU don't want standard last names, doesn't mean others feel the same way. You aren't the only avatar in the village. Im wholly supportive of fun, quirky and silly last names. I just want some normal ones for a change instead of gimmicky ones, a healthy balance of the two. Same as what other people in this thread have stated they want.

    As for your repeated, only argument, "equivalent of smith". Im pretty sure that there are already tons of names on the historical list that meet that definition. It's not anything new and hardly insensitive, there are cultures on SL beyond whatever your culture is.

    I really do think you need to be less of a sour puss.

  10. So, I have some experience in coding LSL, Swift and a little PHP.

    I want to start looking into developing my own viewer, not for public use per say, I just want some features added that no one else seems interested in doing, but I think would be pretty neat. I have tried suggesting to LL or TPV developers and no one seems interested in improving the scripting window, so I want to do it myself.

    However, I am not entirely sure, beyond learning C++, what else I would need to start modifying my own viewer.

    Can one of the viewer developers give me a break down of things I should learn and things that, might not be necessary, but would be very helpful if I was to cover it?

  12. The brain boffin in the name department could even ask chat GPT....these are pretty cool and never before used...

    I asked it to generate some normal, community based and fun names that did not appear on this list: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Current_Last_Names

    This is a selection what it came up with....

    Sensible last names:
    Thornhill
    Waverly
    Carmichael
    Barrington
    Hargreaves
    MacKenzie
    Windslow
    Ashford
    Huntington
    Gupta

    Last names that cater to specific communities:
    Wuong (Chinese community)
    Qiu (Chinese community)
    Pattel (Indian community)
    Kimura (Japanese community)
    OMalley (Irish community)
    Luong (Vietnamese community)
    Otaku (anime community)
    Fluffernutter (furry community)
    Ravenwood (gothic community)
    Mystique (mystical community)
    Hocus (magical community)

    Fun last names:
    Dinglehopper
    Snickerdoodle
    Bloop
    Fluffernutter
    Pudding
    Wigglesworth
    Snugglebutt
    Bippitybop
    Skedaddle
    Ticklepickle
    Hootenanny

    There are plenty of "bland average" names in the list.

    All the pushback really seems like people who aren't going to participate telling others to STOP HAVING FUN

    And those haven't really changed, it's not about whether or not someone wants to tell others to "stop having fun". By all means, if you want a silly name, have at it. There are just those of us who don't particularly want the last name "OhMyBigglesCake" or w/e nonsense they release next. The key is building a balanced set of names, some fun, some normal and then rotating sets of those in and out on a regular basis. That isn't happening, what's actually happening is that gimmick names are being released over and over and over and catering ONLY to those that wish to have gimmick names on their avatars. There are some names on the list that have been there since the list was created that could be replaced with other names catering to other residents.

  14. The lab doesn't listen, people like myself have been saying for the longest time now....give us some normal names. Or at least ones that aren't mega gimmicky. At this point, I can only assume that they don't really care about it and want to put out the stupidest names imaginable as they know someone, somewhere, will buy them. It's sad really, what was once a free feature that had a huge assortment of names, is now a paid for gimmick. I want some simple last names, good for the standard every day avatar. Or, stop being plebs and just open the archive of previous names. Who really is going to care? I wouldn't, id be happy to see people with my other accounts last name. Would be a better idea than struggling along with the lists of stupid they keep releasing.

    I have a feeling I know who picks these names and I wish that person would read these threads and remember what it was like to be a non linden SL resident. And remember what its like when the community is trying to tell the lab something and they just flat out do not listen, and only care about what they think is right, not what the community wants.

    Iv noticed this kind of thing and other weirdness quite a bit in the various development circles I'm part of that this person engages with. For instance, iv seen some people make absolutely awesome experiences, show them to this person and seldom get a mention anywhere. Others who are in the inner favourites circle, can make a half assed experience with a couple trees and regularly make the front page, simply because favouritism.

The only thing that changes is the story and some of the puzzles, they aren't exactly groundbreaking or leading the way in terms of game development.

    MadPea games and stories generally go like this:

    Uh oh...someone died....who is the killer....theres the killer

    and sometimes like this:

    This is a room, its a secure room, now you have to escape!

    or if you are lucky at halloween...

    I was watching a video on this crypto world thing. I forgot the name of it but it had virtual real estate bought with crypto, NFTs, etc. This isn't a topic about all of that but what I saw was the type of content they had inside their virtual world and it was terrible. Second Life is way better. It had me thinking about the resources available in SL, scripting, control inputs, etc. that allow content to be created, specifically gaming content, and I was wondering what everyone thinks about the need for more resources to service this type of content? I know we have content. We have racecars and tracks and we have sailing and fishing but do we have the ability to make things much more game-like? In the crypto world they didn't have much interactive content and though SL has interactivity I think we need more.

    I want more keys to use in llTakeControls and it baffles me why they just won't do it. Yes, we have gestures, but having actual keys we can control would be very helpful. For instance 1234567890, Shift, Control would be a great set of keys to be able to use. You would have many more sets of things you could do with that in terms of a game, such as whether the key is pressed, released or held. Gestures are good but, you can't detect key press and release with them.

    https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Slerp makes it easy to go between two arbitrary rotations scaled by a time variable.

    rotation slerp(rotation a, rotation b, float t) {
       return llAxisAngle2Rot(llRot2Axis(b /= a), t*llRot2Angle(b))*a;
    }

    default
    {
        state_entry()
        {
            rotation start_rotation = llEuler2Rot(<paste start rotation from edit tool>*DEG_TO_RAD);
            rotation dest_rotation = llEuler2Rot(<paste end rotation from edit tool>*DEG_TO_RAD);
            float t;
            float max_t = 2.0; // your time here
            float time_step = 0.1;
            for(t = 0; t <= max_t; t += time_step) {
                llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(LINK_THIS, [PRIM_ROTATION, slerp(start_rotation, dest_rotation, t/max_t)]);
                llSleep(time_step);
            }
        }
    }

    Alternatively, without slerp, just compute a rotational increment that gets you where you want to be in the given time, but that could end up drifting and requires more thinking about what axis you're wanting to rotate around, etc., instead of just pasting in the endpoint rotations.

    default
    {
        state_entry()
        {
            float t;
            float max_t = 2.0;
            float time_step = 0.1;
            rotation increment = llEuler2Rot(<0, 0, 90>*DEG_TO_RAD*(time_step/max_t));
            rotation current_rotation;
            for(t = 0; t < max_t; t += time_step) {
                current_rotation = llGetRot();
                llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(LINK_THIS, [PRIM_ROTATION, current_rotation * increment]);
                llSleep(time_step);
            }
        }
    }

    That is amazing, thank you so much.

  19. So,

    Havent touched rotations properly in a while, especially since I only recently returned to SL and I need reminding xD

    When rotating a linked object I get the local rot and then multiple my angle of turn by the local rot value?

    Secondly, what's the best way to rotate over a period of time. Lets say I want a linked child prim door to rotate open, 90 degrees, over two seconds

  20. Is there a way to use a group key to ensure that only avatars in a certain group can use an attached object?

    I know I can't use llSameGroup or llDetectedGroup as the object attached inherits the group of the current owner.

    I was hoping I could do some comparison with the group key vs the key of the group the avatar has active but llGetObjectDetails also doesn't work for this.

    Has anyone ever found a solution?
