Can't imagine there's nothing in it.

Ethan...  With all due respect you have replied to a few fashion posts I have but have not given specific helpful info about specific stores.  The reason I posted is because I was seeking help.  If you can help great.  If you can't, don't know or think my question is ignorant then simply don't reply instead of questioning my sanity asking.  To be clear I have looked and was not finding a whole lot.  If you found 22202 matches that is great, I did not find that many.

  2. I actually searched for the answer for this on google, searched and used the 'search' feature on sl...

Are there places beyond MP, free dove and free galaxy where I can locate some free pieces of clothing for a mesh body?  I did get a few pieces from MP that are nice and one dress from free dove that is great.  Also bought some pieces from mp that are good.  But, I'm on the lookout for more.

I have been looking and have not found a good selection on MP or inworld stores I've seen.  Thats why I was reaching out here.  If you know of some specific places I've love to hear what they are.  ty

  4. Hi Everyone..

    1.  I'd like to find a decent selection of strappy heels where I can try on a lot of shoes.  Shoes are the main thing I have problems with working out in sl.

    2.  And I'm also interested in a decent selection of thigh high boots.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be great for me to have a list I can refer to.

  5. I've used a free demo dress only one time before.  And had to delete it because it had a large banner above the avatars head with the creator name and website that would not go away.

Is it ok to usually delete this banner?

Can anyone advise me on how the banner can be deleted on demo clothes or furniture?

Many Maitreya tops fit... for pants I usually was better off with low riding medium or small classic ones... the hips do not fit as well... miniskirts are a real PITA with that body but wide skirts both medium and for Maitreya used to work OK-ish.

Then again there are some Altamura fitted skirts on the market and those worked perfect.

err no, she encouraged you to trade real money for Lindens on Lindex. Basically you will earn the same amount in 1 hour of selling fries at your local burger bar as you would for working a whole weekend in SL... (often even at a worse comparison rate)

Ok...  I will check into Lindex...  I was wondering about that.  I'll check out the comparison rate.

There is a place next to my shop that has free apartments. It's in Chinati, Heterocera. Seems to be from a land baron as a promotion.

In sl I was discussing Chinati, Heterocera with a friend...  There are many things I still do not know.  But, can you explain in a way a newbie would understand how I can find the Chinati, Hererocera area?  How would I get there?

Question 2, 3 and 4 my reply is: Maitreya Lara.

Question 1: These videos claim to be basic and starter.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=BnAaDpZRUkY

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsTm3iSzP-8

The #2 video shows the Ebody, not Maitreya.

But Maitreya has the largest share of the market, and so you save yourself a lot of time hunting down things that perhaps fit a free body. I find it annoying and it's stealing time from my SL.

On Marianne (because I have more avatars that this) I have both Slink bodies, Belleza body, TMP body and Maitreya. I only use Maitreya.

If you can get some money in RL, like working an hour overtime or skip a few purchases of coffee in your coffee shop, I would buy some §L and go straight for a Maitreya body. Maitreya also have the most freebies and sales. If you follow the blog https://fabfree.wordpress.com/ look at the freebies. It is almost nothing made for system bodies anymore. You will see that some have this body and some have that body, but all have Maitreya. That being said, you can buy either

    • Maitreya Lara
    • Slink Hourglass & Physique
    • Belleza Freya & Isis

and find a lot of stuff for them. They are all bodies you pay for.

This video is good and detailed about Maitreya.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P2PtyyXzxnA

Now that I have basically turned down your request about a free body, let me link to a blogpost: https://ryanschultz.com/2018/09/24/second-life-steals-deals-and-freebies-free-mesh-heads-and-bodies-for-female-second-life-avatars/

Scroll down, almost to the end you find Ruth 2.0 and more. The first part is all about heads.

Ryan Schultz also have some posts about free Altamura avatars: https://ryanschultz.com/tag/altamura/

A lot of free things is limited in time, as Christmas gifts and hunts. There are also fees to join groups, to get their group gifts. Basically, free stuff it limiting in what you can customize, fewer freebies and cheapies, they are perhaps available for a short time, almost no one blogs them (besides Ryan Schultz) and you might have to join a group and pay the fee. I tried to find videos for them, I came up with videos for Altamura but they are all in Spanish.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcEqISS9GfQ&t=5s

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xA7wTuuuyjc

You stated something specific I am interested in.  I do work a lot.  So, is there a specific site that is trustworthy that I can pay rl money to in order to have a mesh avatar designed?  It would be worth it for me to save the time.  I appreciate all of your advise.

And in addition to a picture of the feet - and whole body, as someone else suggested, please screenshot the 'Worn' tab of your inventory window - with all folders expanded

I will do this...  I'm having a little bit of a problem doing screenshots on sl.  I actually have a problem running any other program when I'm running sl regardless of how small the other program is.  But, I will attempt to do this because I'm very curious what is going on with the feet.

One way to find out if Sandra is wearing a classic/system avatar or a mesh body avatar, and that's to ask: @Sandra8675 - do your avatar's feet look similar to those on the left (well-defined and separated toes, and smooth lines all around the feet) or those on the right ('paddle' toes and angled edges all around the feet) in the below picture?

    1846745731_meshbodyfeetvsclassicfeet.png.518b4d02bfd845499c81df7805906760.png

I am beyond a doubt wearing classic  feet.  And I actually wrote down the only feet that ever work for me.  The only feet that have ever worked for me are the SHAWNA SHOES/ SHAWNA ALPHA SHOES.

These end up looking kind of like 'heels', they cover my classic avatar feet and they fit.

I spent hours the other day trying on nothing but shoes.  None of the shoes seem to work except the SHAWNA SHOES which are from a classic avatar.

If you downloaded Second Life from here: https://secondlife.com/support/downloads/

you are on the official Second Life Viewer.

I think the statistics say that the majority of Second Life users is using the third party viewer Firestorm. In fact, 60 to 75% prefer Firestorm. I am one of them. I have trouble going back to the official Second Life viewer. But I have a version of it, if I have to log in and check if something is as I remember it.

The Phoenix/Firestorm page is here: https://www.firestormviewer.org/

and it has its own Jira and Wiki.

There are so many threads about "what viewer do you prefer" here and as I already said, I am a hard Firestorm user. I would not quit Second Life if I was forced to use only the official viewer. I think. But it would be close. I shorten Firestorm to FS.

I am not saying that you should try FS or another third party viewer (because there are many more). You struggle a bit with Second Life and the interface of FS is a bit different. Not so much different. It could add some confusion for you. It could also make it easier since FS is so popular, it is more likely that the person(s) that reply to your questions use FS and their answer refer to settings in FS.

In this case, it is nice that FS has a direct button called "Bumps, pushes and hits" and also a direct button for "Abuse report". I think your case is perhaps bad enough for an abuse report.

I have the camera control floater up all the time, and I can not change size of it in the official viewer. It is also semi-transparent in FS. Every time I use the official viewer, it annoys me.

FS has eliminated many clicks and had direct click buttons. Let us say you are in the club called The Dancing Panda and someone bullies you. You can find out who owns the club in a single click in FS, because the button "land" is ready for you at the top.

I can have mini-map up and click on a green dot in FS, and zoom there to look at the avatar. Useful if someone moves towards me. FS has its own setting to alert if an avatar comes in talking range of you. I stop here because it is already threads about what viewer do you prefer.

Thank you...  you are right.  I'm using the official second life viewer.  I download sl from a link from facebook.  I will be using firestorm soon but not until I get my new computer.

  12. Right now I have a classic body...

I am interested in changing only the classic body to a mesh body.

I've talked about this is little in the past.  But, can anyone recommend an FREE mesh body (with the hands and feet already attached) that is easy/ basic that a newbie can figure out with little assistance?

    1.  Are there any very basic youtube videos on basic steps how to change from a CLASSIC body to a MESH body?

    2.  Are there certain MESH bodies that are easier to find clothing for?

    3.  Are there certain MESH bodies that have more choices of clothing?

    4.  Are there certain MESH bodies that are more straight forward to add to avatar for a newbie with the least amount of 'extra' things to worry about?

    5.  Are there questions I should be asking or things I should be worried about that I'm not bringing up here?

Thanks for the links...  I'm reading what Jeremy says about blocking now.  I was told in the sl newbie destination that the process of blocking people may change according to what viewer I'm on.  I'm trying to figure this out before continuing doing anything on sl further.

  14. I need some help with blocking...

    1.  I have tried right clicking on persons name from a conversation.  And that has not worked.

    2.  I have tried looking at persons profile and searched all options and gears for a BLOCK button, tab or feature and that has not worked.

    3.  I have tried going to the newbie destination several times and talked to several people but we could not figure out why I'm not seeing a BLOCK button.

The only thing I have been able to figure out is to block the persons IM and text.  But, from what I understand this won't totally block him?  Is this true?

I'm not sure what viewer I'm on...  I'm using windows 7, 64 bit...  How can I tell what viewer I'm on?

In her earlier posts, Sandra said clearly that she has a classic body, and she was explained the difference. Of course that can have changed.

I recommend you taking screenshots, maybe Printscreen work fastest for you. You can then upload them here.

Or else use snaphot in your viewer and save it to your computer. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Taking_snapshots

It is true that a picture say more than 1000 words. We could stop guessing if you have the classic body or if you have changed.

I do not have a mesh body.  I've tried to only choose body parts, etc that are from a classic body.  I do still have a classic body.  Yesterday an attachment got added on my avatar I could not get rid of.  So, I created an entire new avatar.  Still with classic body.  The shoes and feet were fine yesterday.  But, now...  no.  I have gone to the newbie destination so many times.  But, my shoes still are not fixed.  I will screenshot a picture of the feet.  I will send a couple examples of shoe issues and see if we can start from there.

Sandra, with the kindest of intentions, I advise the following:

I would strongly suggest that you not try using Firestorm just yet. While it's the viewer of choice for many users in SL, it has a hell of a lot more options and is what you might call a bit more of a "power user's viewer" than the default Linden Lab viewer. Given that you've been asking many questions in this forum about the absolute basics of SL, I don't think that Firestorm is the right viewer for you at the moment. Once you get more to grips with SL and how it works, then that would be the time to make the jump to Firestorm. Right now, I think that Firestorm could possibly only add to the confusion you're experiencing as you understand how SL and avatars within SL work.

Case in point: you replied to a post about using the Firestorm AO. There's a tutorial on YouTube that explains how to load and use that AO. It's three videos long. Are you truly ready for that?

thank you for sharing this info.  Many people have suggested I use firestorm because its 'better.'  But, I did not know it was more options for advanced users.  I will wait as you suggest.  Same reason I won't change to a mesh body right now,.  Its just too much right now when I'm trying to get used to the basics.

If you are wearing mesh feet you will need the corresponding shoe size for the body/feet. So if wearing a Maitreya body/feet you will need to use Maitreya size shoes. This holds true for all the mesh feet as far as I know. It is a rare occurrence these days but it's possible that the shoes may not be rigged to the foot, in which case, you should be able to edit the shoes and move them into place. Remember though, it's uncommon to find shoes these days that aren't rigged.

If you're using a classic body and classic feet then be sure you're wearing the footshaper and alpha that came with the shoes.

I am using a classic mesh body 'Jenny."  So you need a foot shaper along with the alpha shoe?  Maybe thats where I went wrong.  I was not using both.  I will try it.

The starter avatars have an animation override that is not visible on the screen. It has just the action you describe in #3.

It is named Animation Overrider - Female and is attached to Center 2.

You can see in the folder with the classic starter avatar. If you started as Kimberly, it is in the Kimberly folder, or Abigail or what ever the name is. I am sure this is detached because the pants used the same attachment point.

    Locate it and add it.

It is actually a nice AO. No fuss, but much better than the default walk and stands.

Thank you so much...  I will keep this info...  Good stuff...  I was frustrated because I knew there was a change.  So, I started with Jenny again and re-created her.  Now her walk and everything seems to be working fine again.  So much to learn.  Its all very interesting.  But, it did surprise me when her walk changed for no apparent reason.  It makes sense the way you explained it.  thanks again as always.

If you have Firestorm instead of buying a dance HUD, just buy the dances you want and put them into a Firestorm AO under the 'standing' category.

    - lag free, and works even in no script areas.

I am new.  What is the most easy direct way I can get to firestorm?

  20. I was having several issues with my avatar in the newbie room.  I originally went into the newbie room because:

    1.  avatar started walking different.  And I could not figure out why.
    2.  avatar feet were 'floating' on top of her shoes.

When I went into the newbie room the help person finally went into the fitting room with me.  He said something like, 'Your avatar is all messed up.  You should read everything about your avatar before you mess with the settings.  There is a lot wrong with it.  You have 2 heads on, your avatar is in 'idle' and you have been 'messing' with the outfit colors.  You should never touch anything until you know what your doing.  You should always start off with a 'classic' body.  Next time read before you start pressing all the buttons.'

    For the record:
    1.  I did not and would not press all the buttons.
    2.  I DID start off with a classic body of Jenny even though the 'newbie helper' was accusing me of otherwise.
    3.  I DID NOT change the original color of the clothes the avatar was wearing.  She was wearing a multi colored pants suit that always worked well for me in the past few days.
    4.  The shoes were a problem which is why I originally entered the 'newbie help destination'.  I never did get the shoes fixed.  The feet continued floating on top of the shoes.  I ended up using a 'shoe shaper' and made a very simple pair of boots.
    5.  I NEVER added  2 heads.  I did use some hair from FREE DOVE which looked fine.  But, because I felt it may be causing a problem I removed it.  Then I added stock classic avatar hair for Jenny.

In the end my avatar did look and walk normal.  And I did ask several people if they could see my avatar ok and they said the could see her clearly.

Yes, I was irritated and frustrated at this person and the way he talked to me because I went to the newbie room to get help.  After I got the 'lecture' from the 'guy helping' in the newbie forum I did ask, 'Can you tell me something specific that is wrong that we can work on fixing?'  I never did get an answer.  I was only told  that I should 'not jump into pressing buttons and changing things before reading more about avatars.'
