And my country, the UK, is one of them.  Though since the offence is possessing a prohibited image of a child, I think it would be an issue only if someone took a screenshot (and, of course, if they didn't, there would be nothing to show the court to say "this is the image we're complaining about").

However, it's the SL Terms of Service that matter here, not the criminal law in any particular jurisdiction, I think.

Do I agree with the new policy in SL? Yes, wholeheartedly. However, I think that my government is so detached from reality. But I also don't look at ***** as weird as it is, as CSAM or CSA. That is just taking it too far and watering down those terms.

So what law changed in the last few months that suddenly required this amendment to the ToS? It has been ok for 20 years and now isn't without some significant external change?

People do realize, that CP always constitutes actual children depicted in sexual ways. The only way that "drawings or art" could be hit, is if say the person who made the image made an exact likeness of a real child. So as weird as the anime or cartoon stuff is, that is not actual CP.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen an all out call for a ban on child avi's. I for one, would support this wholeheartedly.  Problem solved.

I do not agree with that sentiment at all. It would be a very slippery slope, cause they ban Child Avis. What's next? Furries? That is why it is a slippery slope, and its SL we can be who we want to be.

The more i read this thread, the more i realize how stupid all these new rules are, and the stupidest part is that it wont stop anyone from having prohibited activities with a kid if they so desire.

Maybe ban kids from adult sims, that might be a good idea, but the rest of the changes are pure crap.

This thread is too busy to keep up with, knock yourselves out everyone, im off to find a less busy thread

    😂

    Why are these rules stupid?

Aint no way, not to mention this is on a bebeyouth, that's a toddler's body. Not 10, not 15.

This is an adult skin on a genus head.

    with a Bebeyouth body.

You can't make genus head a child's head, you can make it child-like but you cannot make it into a child's head

    The neck.

Can you please tell me the site, where you were able to check the age using biometrics?

The issue of adults using child avatars in virtual environments like Second Life is complex and involves balancing the principles of freedom of expression with the need to protect against harmful or illegal content.

The following is a proposed strategy to bolster user safety and content appropriateness in this context by implementing immutable age demographics and enhancing the visibility of these demographics on avatar profiles and within the virtual environment.

Please use this thread to discuss,  trash, or completely ignore - whatever you feel most appropriate.

Personally, I can see potential issues around Freedom of Expression, Potential for Stigmatization, Impact on Community Dynamics, Unintended Consequences, and of course intentional Circumvention.

However, given the discussion and debate around this area, it might be good to attempt some sort of consensus from the forum around a structured and practical approach.

    Proposed Approach:

    1.Immutable Age Demographic Selection:

    • Initial Setup: During account creation, users will select an age demographic (Child, Teen, Adult) that is permanent and unchangeable to ensure consistency and appropriateness of content and interaction. If a customer wishes to participate in multiple age demographics at different times, then this would be facilitated by use of Alternative Accounts (Alts).

    2.Enhanced Demographic Visibility:

    • Profile Visibility: Each avatar’s age category will be prominently displayed on their profile through intuitive icons and color codes, ensuring it is immediately apparent to other users.
    • In-Environment Indicators: Beside each avatar’s floating name, a universally understandable icon indicating their age demographic will be visible, ensuring all interactions are age-appropriate.

    3.Zoning and Access Control:

    • Geofenced Zones: Implement strict geofencing based on age demographics, allowing avatars access only to designated zones that match their age group, enhancing both safety and compliance.

    4.Content and Community Management:

    • Content Filtering: Systems will adjust content visibility and interaction possibilities based on the immutable age setting.
    • Community Interaction Protocols: Encourage engagement within age-similar groups to foster a safer and more relevant social environment.

    5.Policy and Compliance Framework:

    • Clear Communication: Users will be thoroughly informed about the importance and permanence of their age selection during the setup process.
    • Legal and Policy Compliance: Regular reviews and updates will ensure alignment with global legal standards and adapt to evolving user and community needs.

    Benefits:

    • Safety and Security: Ensures a secure environment by aligning users’ interactions strictly with their age group.
    • Regulatory Compliance: Meets stringent global standards for online safety and child protection.
    • Enhanced User Trust: Builds user confidence through transparent policies and clear, visible age demarcations.

You do realize, that it hinders people from being able to express themselves. If they are just locked in one demographic. That and it would be a pain for people who have both an adult and child avi on their account, if they were limited to only certain areas. Even if they look like an adult. That and this is SL, age can be changed at any time.

I had a discussion with a long time friend, and long time Second Life resident, about a hypothetical "if you ran LL" ultimatum - Either keep adult content, or keep child avatars. Knowing how much adult content, as much as Linden Lab may begrudgingly acknowledge it, drives our economy.. I'd painfully have to show child avatars the door, were it my decision - It's something I wouldn't want to do, but to preserve my - our home, it'd have to be that choice. They said that sooner or later LL may have to face that ultimatum. It may not be now, but when this problem rears its' ugly head once more.

That being said, I wish we lived in a perfect world where no one pursued *****, where CSAM and CSA was non-existant, and all lewd acts were done with consent, from those who can provide consent.

But sadly we don't live in such a world.

But here is the thing, as disgusting and weird those actions are. It is not comparable nor does it fit the defintion of CSAM or CSA. As there is an adult behind the avatar. That does not make it okay to do at the end of the day, but please do not water down the terms.

Because that is what it amounts too.   My body is old and I like it.  The maker has left SL so there is no way it will ever comply with the modestly layer.  Basically, i've lost my look, hundreds of hours of work, and hundreds of not thousands of dollars in cloths.

I know this sucks, but you are either gonna have to comply with the new policies or leave. Again, I am sorry you are going through this though.

That's my point though, there are very little skins specifically designed for children. Most of them are really old. A lot of kids use skins designed for Maitreya but with the flat chest / no genitalia versions. I can't see many creators going to the effort. They just won't make them so you'll be stuck with the default option the avi creator made.

Um no there a tonnes. Lol. And I am sorry but kid avis are gonna have to have their own skin. And they will have to follow the new poiicies
