  1. The point is to change your current avatars USERNAME not your entire SL identity forsaking all old ties, friends lists etc etc. If you want that....create a new avatar and pay for the name change on there. You realise its not just as simple a task as changing a name on a computer somewhere. There are multiple databases, accounts, marketplace, objects, server links etc etc that will all need updating. The point of people being able to search you via your old name still is so that people who know you, or want to hire you, or someone you once knew that returned to SL that wishes to look you up etc etc (inserts 32234242 other similar reasons here) can do so.
  2. Pretty much what I was getting at but I was also taking into consideration the difference between "jellydolling" 100 max avatars than "jellydolling" 30k max objects, hence why I wrote similar or alternate tech. Perhaps there was a specific reason why that was not introduced alongside jellydoll for avatars, or maybe they didn't want people to not see SL. Hopefully my question gets asked and we get a decent non evasive answer
  3. Ebbe Question : Are there any other ways, other than what is already present, that Linden Labs could implement that would allow those of us with less powerful computers to be present in high mesh density sims without either lagging out or crashing entirely. Jellydolls worked semi perfectly for avatars, is there a similar or alternate tech that could be implemented for mesh builds in world. De rendering objects completely can be irksome if you are hanging with friends and they want to move around and explore and you can't follow properly due to you not being able to see anything as you have derendered it all. Would Linden Labs consider adding a complexity cap for mesh to prevent further overly complex and badly designed mesh being uploaded in world?. I understand that would not help the situation with the mesh that already exists inside of SL but it would help for future products.
  4. Well, I would agree with rolig on re sizing. llScaleByFactor is a good place to start. Regarding your code, when you are attaching something to an avatar and want to set its position. Try PRIM_POS_LOCAL instead of PRIM_POSITION. The first sets position relative to being attached to the avatar. The latter is setting a position relative to objects position in the sim. To help with avatars resizing the object you could add in : //Global Function checkScalePos(){ currentsize = llList2Vector(llGetLinkPrimitiveParams(1,[PRIM_SIZE]),0); llSetLinkPrimitiveParamsFast(1,[ PRIM_SIZE, currentsize, PRIM_POS_LOCAL,currentposition]); } default{ state_entry(){ checkScalePos(); } changed(integer x){ if(x&CHANGED_SCALE){ checkScalePos(); } } } That way every time they re size the object it will record the new current size, position etc and respond accordingly. There isn't much else to say that hasn't been said already.
  5. Im confused how you feel ripped off. Your buy down price is still lower than the new reduced price. You have broke even already and saved money. The buy down tier was $199 a month, the new LL sim prices are $249 a month. You have already saved $2400 in the time you have owned a sim that has been bought down. Take out the original purchase price at the time which I think was down to $600ish for the sim and $600ish for the buy down, you have not only broke even but have saved roughly $1200 dollars and each month you pay are saving $50 more. Im confused how you think that you are not getting a good deal here or your bought down sim is only lasting two years. So what if the transfer price is $600 like any other sim. 9/10 times I see sims being sold its usually the purchaser not the seller that pays the transfer fee anyway and that person is going to make whatever transfer money they paid back in 12 months at a saving of $50 per month.
  6. I def agree with you that Prims > Sculpts > Mesh. The resolution will be part of it but also how complex the sculpt is. When creating a sculpt in blender you can still divide the face into more faces thus upping the complexity and maybe increasing the time it takes to load in world. But no matter how complex the sculpt....still 1 land count xD. Win win. I love mixing sculpts into prim builds to enhance their look, so for example, a house with prim walls, floors, ceiling, window hole etc etc and then use a sculpt to create a really neat looking curved roof that curves around at the edge and also use a sculpt to create a really rustic looking wooden window frame etc etc.
  7. Sculpts can be good tbt. Some of the best and least laggy sims I have seen have been built out of sculpts. Yes they have a slightly longer load time but prims+sculpts= the way to go with sim building. The other neat thing about sculpts is you can size them as you please and they don't increase in land count unlike mesh (unless you add materials to them but I have yet to have a single sculpt jump more than 4 land impact with materials added). One thing I used to love were the low lag mega prim sculpted sim surrounds, all I ever see people using these days for sim surrounds is mesh...mesh.....more mesh and I keep having to defender and blacklist them
  8. You wouldn't get permission.....or if on the 0.000001% chance you did they would charge you a butt load of cash for simply using the name. But to give you a idea on how successful you would be....they sued someone only months ago for using the name Comic-Con in their convention name. Just call it something else. It doesn't HAVE to be Comic-Con. Alternatives could be Avi-Con, Ani-Con, Animazed, Comikaze etc etc be creative and think up something unique to suit your con instead of subscribing specifically to Comic-Con as a brand.
  9. Il be honest, I love building out of prims. Have done since I joined SL in 2007. If it comes to building a sim I primarily use prims due to the low render impact, with mesh being used for added decoration as needed, and if used correctly with the right textures can look just as good as some mesh buildings. I find mesh to be nice looking but problematic if you use too much of it. Not everyone has the super computer required to be able to exist in and render full mesh regions effectively. I love mesh but I do think there is a certain sense of pathetic snobbery that has grown out of mesh being introduced. People claiming its "wrong" or "dated" to build in prims or pointlessly claiming "its 2018 not 2007", when in truth prims have their place just as much now as they did back in 2007. I know of this sim called Liberty City and they have built their sim as mesh upon mesh with more mesh behind it sat on mesh with mesh propping it up and even more mesh thrown in for good measure. Everything is mesh, thousands and thousands of items from the smallest can of coke to the largest city building or bridge and that place.....crashes me like no other sim does because the render impact is just so great. I will never give up building with prims and if people want to judge me for that then they can do but prims are an integral part of second life whether anyone likes it or not. Mesh is just a nice looking botched add on that came much later.
  10. You say "mid range"......how mid range. Like how old is your laptop, how much memory does it have, what graphics card are you using inside of it etc etc. Does it use windows 10? if so there are a small number of people who experienced those issues when the had Nvidia cards. One fix was going into the settings and limiting fps to around 60. Also if using windows 10 and you have dedicated graphics make sure that Firestorm / V3 is actually using that card etc etc. Also if you want a slightly lightweight viewer that seems to work for people that have issues with the other ones, look up Singularity. Another one that works wonders is Alchemy.
  11. I wouldn't say that is entirely true, in fact in my experience far from it. Plus I don't really like measuring peoples intelligence in terms of IQ. I much prefer this proposed model of intelligence https://www.tecweb.org/styles/gardner.html It recognises that people are intelligent in more ways than just math, word association and logic
  12. Your telling me things I have already done, its not just on my Mac its on my gaming computer also which I did state in a previous post. I also stated that the issue was firestorms cpu usage....not lag....not a slow connection....CPU USAGE. As well as stating I have several friends who report the same issues. I have checked all of the things you are mentioning in the past, lowered graphics, shut down other programs etc etc and the simple fact stands that firestorm for me is the most resource heavy viewer out of them all. The only reason I still use it is due to the lsl preprocessor.
  13. Some of that stuff is still in use though. I mean, I still use several things that I acquired when I first entered second life. Plus I paid good money for some of that content....whether its dated or not I still paid for it and I don't want to have to give it up because someone feels some kind of way about how old or unoptimised it is. If you want to argue the point of not optimised....one word....mesh. Thats about as unoptimised as you can get considering there is no realistic limit on how many verts a mesh can have and more often than not you end up with highly complex models being brought in world being created with at least 50x more verts than is actually needed to create that object. I mean I have clothing in my inventory that when rez out in world have a land count of 500-1000+. Yet those with more experience can bring in entire mesh mansions with all manner of detail and have the land count under 300.
  14. Been there, done that...the basic answer was.....that a number of Mac users have this issue but not enough that they are going to do anything about it
  15. That would be a fairly neat idea. I would love to see something new come along. Firestorm is at a point now where it is just SO SO SO bulky and uses up SO much CPU% compared to other viewers such as V3 and Alchemy that it is just ridiculously taxing on a system and with each release they just add more and more features. Which isn't a bad thing but it would be nice to see something new and sleek hit the market, coded from the ground up to be a newer faster lighter weight experience, perhaps with the option to load a more detailed experience if the user so did wish it.
  16. I really wish they would develop a new viewer tbh. Firestorm is good for features but is such a beast now. Out of all of the third party viewers firestorm is the most taxing, resource wise, on both of my computers (mac and gaming pc). My friends often report the same thing. I would love to see someone design a whole new viewer experience from the ground up with a nice new modern looking ui, custom designed icons and layout etc. I mean I LOVE the sansar browsers design style, not too fond of sansar as it stands as a project but their viewer / browser..is on point. Something like that but for SL would be amazing.
  17. Ahhhhh, yes I agree. I doubt she cashed out a whole mil in one go but I do believe she probably had a million in her bank at one point. She was making so so so much money each month, unless she was living the ultimate of lavish lifestyles I think she would find it hard to spend upwards of 100k each month. Then again I have no idea what her outgoings are, she hires multiple staff to manage her in world sims, website, live chat and not just on SL but on IMVU and whatever other worlds / software it is she inhabits.
  18. Im curious as to why you don't believe it. She had thousands of sims rented to thousands of people ALL grandfathered to a tier deal you could only HOPE of achieving today. Think about it this way, lets round the sims she had off to a thousand. So 1000 sims, standard rental at the time from LL was 295 a month. Lets say her grandfathered tier was 195 (if I remember the deal for early buyers was less than that but lets use 195 as the base). So after tier was paid she made 1000 x 100USD = 100,000USD a month at her peak....at least.... when SL was at its most popular. Does 1 million lindens sound so outrageous now?. Then include onto of that she was a popular clothing designer back in the day. I think its fairly plausible that she made a million from SL. There are people even today making serious serious money from Second Life. Take the creator of Maitreya for example. How many avatars over the last 4-5 years have paid nearly 3k lindens for that body onto of everything else they sell. Katwa (I think is how you spell it) is another, how many people have the 5k linden bento head as well as purchased their previous non bento heads and other products.
  19. I know they always took a percentage but my last 4 sales on this item has given me more than 9.5k and then this one is 5%. Unless something messed up somewhere along the line
  20. I saw that and then I saw the resulting "yes it is, no it isn't, oh yes it is" that came after then skipped and read a few more.
  21. Well thats the first iv ever heard of that. The Lindens make such big point of never getting involved in in world disputes such as that. Thats interesting to know though for future reference. I stand corrected!
  22. You can't have possibly been the real owner. Having said that, if you were the ONLY person in the group then the system is automated to delete it after a certain time period so perhaps that was what happened?. But if not and there was more than one person in that group then YOU nor any of you who were kicked were ACTUAL owners
  23. So, I apologise if have missed something but since when did the lindens start taking a 5% fee when something is sold on the market?. I have just sold an item for 10k and received 9.5k. Did I miss an announcement?
  24. Okay firstly the lindens would not eject you from a group as a owner no matter who cried to them. The lindens do not involve themselves in world disputes or affairs such as that. Especially if you had done nothing wrong. Secondly, you weren't really owners. You can say you were to your hearts content but you weren't. The original owners role was renamed to something else and you guys were put into a new owners role with MOST of the same powers an owner would have. Which would explain why you were not able to eject other owners. Iv seen it plenty of times in other groups where people assume they have been invited to ownership and believe it to be utterly true but in truth they haven't, they are just in a sub role called Owners. But trust me, you guys were not true owners as true owners can not eject one another.
