Strangely nobody talks about the adult content.
The white elephant in the room, where everybody knows about, but it is treated as if the Voldemort of SL.

Look at what the best sellers are on the marketplace.

Chairs and couches has 6 sit poses these days, dozens of cuddle poses and tons of adult movements.
Same goes for refrigerators, barbecues, boats, outdoor furniture, even walls lately.

Taken that into consideration, the vast majority must be in SL for the adult part (too).

Maybe that should be advertised a bit more.

I feel like the adult content part has become more normalized over the years, I mean there has always been adult content in SL but I feel like it's become so normal compared to the earlier days.

  2. Sometimes I like to imagine myself as a new user, to imagine the first impression people would have when finding out about Second life.

What is the first thing people usually do when finding out about a game or something along those lines? YouTube, a trailer, or something that can give people a visual of what Second life is and what you can do within it.

I'm still waiting for a video that shows Second life for what it really is, There hasn't been a video for me personally that really hit the nail for me, that made me scream "Yeah that is Second life alright! ".

The video with the most views is the video by Videogamedunkey that came out in 2016 which doesn't really paint Second life in a good way at all, shows clips of trolling, mocking and bad avatars, and the comment section of it really shows what people's first expression of Second life is/was.

On the other hand, it probably did attract "weirdos" or people who are curious and got interested in Second life, but for most part it probably weirded them out, making them not give Second life a chance at all, I do assume that most people who know of Second life thinks it's a *****ed up "game" for "outcasts" with only sex and weird kinks in mind, or "outcasts" who doesn't have a life and takes this "game" too seriously ( like the typical MC people who ends up being the victims in the trolling videos ).

Sadly the more positive videos never really get the views or attention that the other types of videos does, but even then as I said earlier, the videos that exists doesn't really show what Second life really is, they don't really hit the nail, perhaps it's only me that sees it that way.

But let's imagine as a new user, finally finding a decent video of Second life, and get's interested. Now I will have to create an account, the Second life webpage has always looked bland to me, it's probably one of the least important things to care about, but it does leave an impression, even the Second life page in my opinion doesn't showcase what Second life is about, it doesn't even scratch the surface.

As a new user, I probably expect to look alright right away, the decent videos shows decent avies, the pictures on the webpage shows decent avies... then you logg on for the first time, with a not completely Ruth but still a Ruth avatar and yeah I would probably feel tricked and confused as to why I look so different compared to what I have seen so far.

So then I probably realize, ah that is probably because they have spent money on this "game", but where the ***** do I go now? How do I do this and that? How do I make myself look better? Alright they have learned me the basics with these tutorials, but I don't know what to do now, everyone is quiet and standing there like dead penguins.

There is another issue with Second life and that is how scattered it is, for people to stay up to date with events better is via the seraphim website, for people to stay up to date with products is via the flickr website, to share the snapshots with other Second life users I will have to use the flickr website because that is the more popular alternative, we have the forums of course but it is dead compared to flickr, for people to ask for general Second life issues they have to use the forum, but from my own experience a lot of the responses that people have gotten is snarky, the forum itself doesn't get used much by the people within Second life either, so people's impression is that Second life is pretty empty, people don't know where to go or where to find people. Heck even the groups doesn't even work and made creators make discord channels to give people help and news for their products. So yeah scattered. For new users to know these things, they will need to find people or ask the forums, perhaps they don't even know if there are alternatives like that to begin with so they never ask, basically Second life turns into a confusing mess for new people that even bothered to give Second life a chance and probably scared them away right away, unless they meet someone really nice that uses time to learn them things, of course there are youtube videos but even then people have a lot of confusion and questions.

Sorry for the long post. :U

In SL. If you're under 30 days old, random people will assume you're a griefer, harass and ban you.

SL is broadly not welcoming to new accounts because of the activities of a tiny number of actual griefers and paranoia.

I honestly find older users more spooky in my opinion, there are bad eggs no matter how old of a user you are of Second life, I become happy whenever I see new people, but the question then is if they are an alt or not.

  4. I have never felt that I could share my Second life with my friends or family, because  to be honest it is not family friendly at all, even with the adult, mature or pg regions, you can still find people walking around with their tiddies and *****s out. There are a lot of issues within Second life that needs to be solved, I have an idea that could potentially solve the mature items being out in pg areas, just like how you check modify, transfer and copy. What if you could check adult, mature and pg on objects and layers or anything that you can wear? Might be a stupid idea, but why not share it anyhow. But that is just one of many issues Second life has.

There are some youtube videos of normies visiting Second life, and their first impressions are usually wack, and usually paints Second life into this virtual world that is only about weirdos and sex, making it hard for me and others to share the wonderful world of Second life.

Linden labs themselves don't really or haven't tried hard to advertise Second life well, first time in years I feel like they are trying something new with the site layout, but it is unfinished or maybe it is finished? I don't know.

I feel like Second life needs to have it's reputation changed before anyone really can advertise it well, and I don't know how people can do that.

I do want more people to join our world, even after all these years, even if Second life is old and not robust, Second life is still the only world of it's kind, there's nothing that can replace it for me, at least not currently, I have been here since 2007, and I'm not quitting before it's literally dead.

  5. Compared to Maitreya, Legacy, Kupra and Belleza freya, Slink got less support overall, it has always been that way, even when I was still wearing Slink hourglass, which is understandable because there is a ton of bodies out there now, and solo creators simply do not have time to create sizes for every single body there is, which is probably the reason why bigger brands with multiply people working on said brand still creates sizes for less popular bodies, either that or creators painfully goes trough hours of hours of work to try and satisfy every single costumer.

I was having a think earlier, can't remember how or why I came onto the subject of treats, but I decided that if I were the sort of person to treat myself to something sweet on occasion (my go-to thing for treats tends to be savoury things instead), I'd have to make a habit of making something quick and easy - being the way I am about artificial carp in my foodstuffs, I'd be quite hard pressed to buy something ready made (having studied food science I'm sceptical as it is with food in general, but the treats? My goodness, you might as well snort arsenic).

That brought me to think of the perfect solution for this hypothetical conundrum, and as I thought hey, isn't the best way of having a treat to share it?

       Twitches.

.. No, because then you'd have to congregate with actual people. Ew. But, I can share it here without having to suffer the physical presence of anyone. So, here we go.

The treat, of course, is a Swedish classic. And being a Swedish classic, the Danish of course 'invented' it all over again a quarter of a century later (and people don't 'get' why Danes and Swedes have such a blood spattered history of sibling rivalry!). True to the saying, 'Kärt barn har många namn' ('A dear/beloved child has many names'), this treat has a ton of them - one of which is so politically incorrect these days that there was an absolute storm about it in the media in the early noughties, but these days most people say 'chokladboll' ('chocolate ball'), alternatively 'havreboll' ('oat ball'), or 'kokosboll' ('coconut ball'), though two of those could also refer to a completely different pastry that's a lot less quick and easy to make at home on account of having to make a soft meringue batter, shaping that, and covering it with chocolate - how would you even chocolate dip a flippin' meringue batter? Well, there's a way, but I shan't discuss that here.

The recipe is really simple, has plenty of room for modification, and pretty much all the ingredients are things that most people may well have at home. It can also very easily be scaled, so whether you want to make a quarter dozen balls or three hundred balls, adjusting the amounts is super easy.

You'll need (for 'an amount' of balls, depending on how large you make them):

    • 100 grams of butter (and it is important that it is butter, because it is a recipe of very few ingredients and the flavour will shine through - but I suppose if you're a veganite and have forgotten what actual food tastes like, you may go ahead and use whatever plant-based or synthetic lardaceous substitute you wish).
    • 80 grams of sugar (again, with the few ingredients and the flavour, this is one place where you can use different types of sugars - some recipes call for 90-100 grams but not being such a fan of sweet, I'd say 80 g is plenty, might even go lower - let's just say 'to taste'!).
    • 5 grams of vanilla sugar (you can do without this, in which case you might want to use a little bit more regular sugar instead - or whichever sugar you're using. But please note that I wrote 'vanilla' sugar and not 'vanillin' sugar. You don't want them to taste like sour cardboard, do you? Also, I hope you don't actually buy vanilla sugar, that'd be awfully silly of you considering how easy and how much you'd save on making your own).
    • 18 grams of cacao (or more, or less, depending on your preference).
    • 30 grams of oats (rolled oats, the same kind you make oatmeal with).
    • 1 splash of cold coffee (by 'splash' I mean something like 15-20 grams, but it all depends on whether your coffee tastes of coffee. If you don't like coffee you can skip it and just use water, or you can add a splash of milk or cream instead if you're feeling a little more extravagant - the important part is you want the batter to be of a consistency capable of constructing ball-shaped-- Well, balls. I once put a whole cup of coffee into the mix when I was little and misread the recipe amounts, and ended up with chocolate ball porridge .. Still tasted great, though - you seriously can not screw up this recipe).

If you suffer from living in a country wherein grams aren't used, just translate a gram into a pound or something, it'll be fine - I've never heard anyone complain about there being 'too many chocolate balls around the house'.

Now for the tricky part. Put everything into a bowl and mix well. Done. Almost.

Okay, once you've made the batter you can eat it as is, or you can sculpt it into little figures, or you can do what most people do and just make them into little balls (a little smaller than a table tennis ball or a bowling ball, depending on your preference - most people go with a little smaller than a golf ball, and yes, it is important that you make them a little smaller than any given ball used in any given sport and not slightly larger than any given ball used in any given sport, that would be plain decadent - also when I say 'ball' I mean a sphere, not a spheroid, but rarely are they made either football-sized or what-do-I-even-have-to-do-with-feet-ball-sized).

Once you've made them into little balls or little sculptures of hedgehogs with individually sculpted spines, you can roll them in some shredded coconut (to make a 'kokosboll') or pearled sugar, or sprinkles, or chili flakes - whatever boats your float, or whatever can be found in the far back of your pantry that hasn't yet changed colour. Note that if you did sculpt a lifelike hedgehog with individually sculpted spines, rolling it in anything will probably transform it into .. A ball. There's a reason for the shape, folks.

    temporary-image1442067687412_55f434eb2a6
Found this pic wherein you have ones rolled in chocolate sprinkles, shredded coconut, and pearled sugar. Such a diverse pastry!

So that was super easy, and actually making them probably goes faster than reading this post does. So does eating them. But if you for some peculiar reason find yourself with spare ones rather than just eating the entirety of the batter out of the bowl (because that's probably actually what most people do), put them on a plate, pop a bit of plastic over them, and put them in the fridge until next you want one (personally whenever I did that I found I had to snatch one at the time of putting them into the fridge - I probably should warn someone somewhere about how good these things are), or if you absolutely insist on making things more complicated you could put them in a plastic box with a lid. Or a glass box with a lid. In the fridge, is the important part so that the butter doesn't go funny, and covered so that they don't go dry (although I have never personally encountered of one surviving for long enough to go dry though). If you're an absolute mad-person, you could also construct a chocolate Bonbonnière to store them in (unless you have a Bonbonnière laying around the house; I presume by the fact that they exist, that there are in fact people other than my grandfather who do?).

You also could put them in the freezer for long term storage, but .. Why would you? .. I mean unless you did translate the recipe from grams to pounds and made yourself a lifetime supply in one go.

You also could put a dash of arrack in them and make it a bastardised pastry of their #1 rival on the fika menu - the dammsugare. Or you know, any liquor really. Oh, I should try Cointreau ones sometime. Or maybe Amaretto. Just don't booze them up too much, you're making fika, not an avec substitute. Or maybe you are. I mean if they can make chocolate ball flavoured sparkling water*, who's to say you can't?

So, what's your go-to treat recipes?

Oh those are really good! I live in Norway so when I could travel over to Sweden for some shopping I would buy some of those. 😄

  7. Just as the title says I'm looking for fantasy/medieval/armor apparel for the female legacy body, I already know of Pucca firecaster creations, Antaya, P.0.E, Noble creations and Plastik ( or whatever their new name is ) but haven't really found much, at least not something that covers more than just the nip nops and the private parts. So I was hoping that you guys had more store suggestions for me, because so far I have really just peeked on the marketplace and I'm probably missing out on stores that I don't know about, I prefer smaller pieces over full outfits so I can mix and match stuff, oh and is there a decent bom chainmail somewhere?

Any suggestions are appreciated, thank you! 😄

  8. I do not miss pure flexy hairs to be honest since it clips trough your body and everything else, and got a unnatural movement in my opinion, but I do think it would of been nice if creators added some flexy strands with their hairs, so there's some movement going on, like for example barberyumyum's 47B hair, which is a rigged hair with a few flexy strands.

  9. I think the safest thing to do is to just remove the name from your profile, I don't know how serious linden labs takes that kind of thing.

But just know that you are not the only one, I have had my profile copied twice and probably more that I know of, but there really isn't much you can do about it other than to tell the person doing it to not do it again, or show them that you actually know that they did that to you.

Instead you could just make a profile pic and write down that you do not appreciate people copying your profile or other things, at least that is what I have done, if it it will work or not is not for certain but at least people will know.

I know from experience that people who does that kind of thing or worse, copybot or steal people's stuff, tend to not stop or grow out of it of it, because they are filled with jealousy, greed or both, and can't tell the difference between right and wrong, if they are young then yeah maybe they will understand as they grow older, but as an adult... probably not. So I just avoid them as much as possible, well to be honest I avoid people as much as possible unless they are my friends, but it got more downsides than positives. 😅

  10. I don't know if anyone remembers this store, but I found this corset a while back on my old account from the store TheAbyss that I bought back in 2010. it was my favorite corset for many years while a mix of system layers and sculpts were a thing, I remember they had a really cute white/pink scifi outfit for sale that I never had the chance to grab, I do wonder what happen to the creator.

Anyhow, I still love and appreciate the creators who aren't around anymore. 😄

Wow. Kudos to you and your bravery. I don't think many artists hand-paint normal maps. The two usual approaches to creating them are to generate them mathematically from a separate, higher-detail mesh, or to create a grayscale bump map (possibly by hand) and then convert it. Normal maps are not intended to be editable or even be usable images; they're rotational data that's been jury-rigged into a form that existing image file formats can store, and it's only coincidence that they're as human-readible as they are.

Your first big problem is how LL didn't line up UV borders very well, particularly the bottom edge of the upper body's UVs with the top edge of the lower body. (pic #1). The borders don't just have different total lengths, but individual corresponding edges don't match angles or lengths. You can't get textures to line up perfectly across these borders on a per-pixel basis for anything that uses BoM.

The other problem is how your mesh body handles its inherent normals along the outer border. If Legacy's modeler did not configure custom base normals into the vertices along the joints, those body parts will appear to have a sharp seam between them even if the vertices line up perfectly when both parts are worn (pic #2). This is because every vertex has its own personal idea of which way "straight out" is from its spot on the mesh, and by default it's auto-calculated as an average of the face angles around it. But the bottom rim of the torso doesn't know anything about the angles in the legs (and vice versa) -- all that face and angle data is in a different object! So it can't average their facings and ends up using purely its own flatness.

If the Legacy mesh has this issue (and it might not -- good mesh bodies don't), you can correct this somewhat with a normal map, at least in theory, but it won't be perfect and it'll probably take a lot of fussy trial and error.

    saveas4.png

    saveas5.png

Eh yeah, whenever I draw something I tend to avoid the seams as much as possible, thankfully I didn't have to touch the torso seam when I added the abs, however the normal maps I'm modifying was made for the belleza freya body so that is probably why there are slight seams at the connection of the upper body and the lower body, however when I try to correct that, smudging and blending the seams via blender with the standard avatar model it doesn't seem to work at all, it only makes it worse than it was, but I also do not have a dev kit for legacy to be able to do that on the legacy dummy, so I have no idea how the legacy body works with normal maps and how to be able to make it seamless. But I'm grateful for your information, thank you! ^^

This can have an accessibility/usability cause. It can simply be impossible for some on low end gear to visit events and keep up with their friends / lovers /etc. SL ends up a 1fps slideshow, but as the items for sale are event exclusive, if someone wants something participation is mandatory.

On a broader note ... most TPV's allow you to defender ALL other avatars, perfect for shopping events if you just want to get your demos with minimal fuss, no avatar induced lag, no people full stop.

Catznip has it on the quick prefs. (Just keep the mini map open so when walking about don't bump invisible people).

    Ah I wasn't aware of this :o

  13. Pet peeve shopping event edition~

    - I dislike when people wear really unnecessary items in events that causes lower performance.

    - I dislike when people bring more than one friend at events and rather uses time on chatting and gesturing instead of grabbing demos or purchasing whatever they came to purchase.

    - I dislike when people uses spankers, or moaners and walks around pretty much nude at shopping events that are not 18+.

-I dislike when master/mistress's drag their pets/slaves with a leash and slamming them into people or walls, which is hilarious to watch but I don't think that belong in events that aren't 18+ in my opinion.

    - I dislike when people are standing right in front of vendors, making it hard to purchase anything.

    - I dislike people who complain about an item or the event trough voice at the event itself.

    - I dislike events that are overly decorated, got a confusing layout and a low performance because of said decoration.

    - This is probably not a shopping event only pet peeve, but when people are wearing the catwa lollipop with the sounds on!

That's all I came up with at the moment, I'm pretty sure there is more that tends to annoy me. 😅

  14. Hello! So I love playing around with textures as a hobby, but I'm by no means good at it, I'm pretty much a headless chicken just doing whatever I think works. I do have a few questions regarding this subject tho.

So I have heavily modified a normal map for the legacy body (with permission of course), and have created abs for it, however I want to make the legs and arms appear more toned, I have tried hand drawing muscles and tried looking for images or textures that could be used but without luck, so my questions are is there any websites with high quality full body pictures from all angles of a muscular female that doesn't cost me my liver and all that?

I also have issues with making the textures seamless, even after using blender with a model of the standard avatar, there still are seams when I test them in world at least where the torso and the waist connect and in a few other areas but they aren't as noticeable.

Honestly any tips and tricks when it comes to creating normal maps for the body, especially muscle details are welcome, I really want to learn more when it comes to normal maps and specular maps. 😄

    Thank you!

Oh I am using Firestorm, if that makes a difference?

Nothing else attached to my avatar though.

That shouldn't matter no, But yeah contact the creator Utilizator Mode, he is online most of the time in European times. ^^

  16. I have never had this problem with my kemono avatar, so I'm wondering are you wearing anything else other than the kemono avatar? If not try that, take everything off and only wear the kemono body to figure out if there's anything else that causes it, If not I would suggest contacting the creator of the avatar for help, they will usually know the causes for most things.

  17. I do not mind the body at all, but how the breasts were shaped just looks very weird to me, how it sinks in above the breasts as if you were wearing a corset pushing your breasts up 24/7, there are a few things that I do not like about it, but it is a matter of opinion and what you are looking for in a body, I've seen some people really pull it of but that is usually with some deformers.

While demoing the body I found waist/belly + breast deformers a nice way to make it look more pleasant ( in my eyes ).

But then again kupra is not a body for everyone, if you are a person that switches body types I would go for another body.

  18. Doesn't happen to me at all, but I think it might be because I wander around as a fellow pillow in public to avoid getting copybotted, I've had my share of bad luck regarding that, but I don't mind seeing people wear the same top, dress etc. It is another thing if they have the exact same outfit you have spent your time on putting together, or if their avatar look exactly like yours, that's when I start to feel uncomfortable and feel suspicious of it, since I never tend to follow any trends or look up for some inspiration from bloggers, I just stick with my own style that I made up over the years, what I discovered that I feel most comfortable with.

It might sound silly to some that some people might take that kind of stuff more seriously, but it is a way for people to really express themselves, I don't feel like I have that luxury to really express myself via fashion and what not in RL, so it's way easier for me to do so on SL which I really adore about it.
