You could try filing a support ticket and asking if there's anything they're willing to do?

    It's not unheard of.

Yes, I’ve also heard of a few cases where this has happened. If filing a ticket doesn’t get the job done, if it’s that important to you I would look to move to a parcel that already has the kind of road access you are looking for. A lot of my parcel purchases/rentals have been based purely on their road access alone.

You'll need to do your own currency conversions for what I'll say, as my bill is in USD.  And I'll talk about my alt, as it's a newer "Resident" account and therefore more relevant to your situation;  Rabid Cheetah is old enough to be grandfathered in for the higher weekly stipend and the now defunct First Land program, incentives that convinced me to make the jump to premium that simply no longer apply to folks trying to make the same decision 14 years later.  So, it costs twelve bucks (USD, rounding up by a penny) a month.  The stipend is 300 lindybucks per week, which works out to 1300 lindybucks per month (300 $L/wk * 52 wks/yr / 12 months/yr).  And yes, "lindybucks" is the proper accounting term.  I asked an accountant on the internet, so you know it's true.  1300 lindybucks is about five USD, give or take, at the usual rate.  If you sell your lindybucks back from time to time, your actual cost per month is only seven bucks.  For seven bucks a month, you get priority tech support.  You get 1024 m2 that you can subtract for your land total for calculating tier fees;  Keep it at 1024 or below, and you pay no tier fee.  You can use that 1024 allowance to either buy a 1024 Mainland plot, get a free 1024 Linden Home, or some mixture of options in between.

There are other advantages to premium membership, but let's focus on land use, as that's one of the main things that drives myself and many others to go premium, and you haven't yet mentioned what your motivation is.  If you get Mainland land, you can alter the terrain (unless you're in one of the areas that prevent this, but those parcels are so costly that their moot given your budget concerns).  This is a fun thing to play with;  I love making hills and ravines, using prim-water to make lakes, and making high points for viewing the sunset.  On the other hand, getting a Linden Home will mean that you'll have a free pre-fab house that doesn't count for parcel prim limit, plus a community of other players should you choose one of the newer Belli homes.  But the biggest advantage of owning land versus renting it is that Linden is your "landlord", as it were.  Why does that matter?  Because most landlords use rent boxes, which will automatically kick you out of your place after just a few days of past due rent.  Linden will give you up to 30 days to pay your monthly bill -- though do understand that if you go beyond 30 days of non-payment, you won't just loose your home, you'll loose your account.

Now, why am I making such a big issue about rent versus land ownership vis-a-vis ability to pay?  Because you're concerned about the affordability of membership.  And I've been there, too, where twelve bucks, or even only seven, IS a big deal for your budget.  And because all any of us can do with our advice to you is inform you of our own motivations for premium.  Loosing my rental homes a few times on the alt account pushed me to make that one premium too.

As to the premium sandboxes, I don't see that as a big motivator.  There are plenty of non-Linden sandboxes out there, Linden rez-zones, and even HUDs that search for nearby Build-Yes parcels -- yes, some kind folks not only let others on their land, they let them build.

My suggestion to you would be to try premium for a month.  See if you like it.  If you do, great!  If not, no big deal.  Just cancel your membership before the next billing date, and you're only out seven bucks.  And I suggest getting a 512 Linden Home, such as a camper or houseboat, as well as 512 m2 of Mainland so you can see which you like more.  I think you should take the leap for at least a month because the only way you're gonna know if premium is worth it for YOU is if, well, you go premium.

Very good points made here.... likewise for me the big draw for premium is the ability to own land.

Just a small point to amend: On the new Linden Homes, only the campers are 512 m2, the houseboats are all 1024 m2 at the moment.

  3. Something is only ever worth what someone will pay for it, and even then it might only ever be worth it for that one person. If the item is exactly what you’re looking for, is it then worth it to you? Also, at that price you can be fairly sure you’re not going to run into many, if any, others wearing it too.

The only thing that would bother me, is to pay the L$1000 and then discover that seller then reduced it to L$300 a short time later :P

it is not without script, it is group only script and that is a adjustable setting as soon somebody claims the trailer again .
And OP wasn't talking about a abandoned parcel, but the owned parcel, and thats simply nót restricted for use of scripts unless the owner setted it so.

My point was the fact that in abandoning the parcel the permissions changed, and they stay on that setting when they're taken on by a new owner. As a parcel isn't set to group when a person takes it on, in this instance it would be as good as the scripts being blocked. As the person didn't know to look at the permissions, they certainly wouldn't have set up a group in order to be able to take advantage of the group only permission. And the person to which I was originally replying didn't know about the permissions setting.

I took another parcel to screen shot the settings when taken by a new owner....

as said it's simply to change that, and tbh i never had a home where scripts were blocked upfront, it's the used that has to lock it.
Changing owners resets all so it's enabled anyway.

Just thought you might want to know that the situation has changed since you last took on a Linden Home.

If I were to subsequently reduce my holdings so that no tier was payable, the date for any future tier payments required if I then purchased more at a later time, would always fall on that date in the month.

As I mentioned earlier, once tier has been accrued you'll always have that date set even if you go for a period without tier being incurred, or indeed even if you drop down to basic and become premium again at a later time.

  7. In the early days of SL the trend amongst a lot of residents was to max the height slider. Very little consideration was given to correct proportion and so there were many females with short arms (still visible today in fact), and huge guys with pin heads (pre bento mesh heads got them out of that.

There was a small movement pushing for embracing a smaller scale once mesh hit (circa 2012), especially as smaller builds usually results in lower land impact. I can remember seeing clinic type buildings pop up around the grid, with 3 different scale devices to show how your av measured up, and lots of public message posters around the walls to educate people to scale down, including showing how to adjust your camera view position.

The clinics pretty soon disappeared, but a year or possibly two ago, one of the best vehicle creators in SL announced that all his future products would now be Real Scale. Even though I had been scaling down gradually over the years I took the plunge and embraced Real Scale. I love it, and where possible I will scale my buildings and furniture accordingly, adjusting the animation positions in the sit enabled ones and taking a ‘master copy’ back into inventory to save me having to do it all again on later placements of furniture.

Unfortunately, a lot of people still equate bigger with better, and its easier to go along with the herd, so it’s hard going to get change implemented across the board. If the new Linden Homes had scaled down slightly it may have helped greatly with the movement.

My previous home when I was premium had scripts blocked. This was the one you got for free for having premium. Of the options I had, they all had the same conditions. A friend still has premium, and it is the same.

With the premium homes you own the land and so can change the settings. If you want scripts to run, tick the box to enable them to do so.

  9. I had my first taste of online life in The Sims Online and moved from there to Star Wars Galaxies. I then went to Project Entropia and wanted something more.... found SL in Summer of 2006, but faffed around and didn't finally sign up until Oct 2006, thus missing the L$500 stipend but managing to squeak in on the 400... phew.

I was lucky. Even though we had no spare money, we had relatives in Blackpool, and family who got railway passes, so it was Blackpool twice a year.

We crammed in a terraced house with two bedrooms. The outside toilet was still in the yard.

  11. It's a really lovely idea, and I've had a lot of friends over the years that have wanted to do something similar, but I really don't see it as being a viable business.

The thing you have to remember in offering a vacation, is that these people will most likely already be paying for their usual home, so they're not going to be looking to pay too much extra.

The short term lease is good.... I have vacationed in the past with family and although most places would offer weekly terms, we were pretty much ready to go home after 2 or 3 days. As for repeat business, we never went back to any of the holiday places, no matter how good they were.

If you're buying a full private region, there would be no adjoining regions so where would you be flying from? You could have the initial landmark at a sky venue over the island, decked out as heliport and fly to the island from there once your guests arrive. Or, you could rent a ticket desk at one of the mainland airports and book your guests in there with an experience teleport to your island.

I really do think that you might want to rent a region as Chic suggests to see if it really is something that can generate enough income to support it. Also, if you're looking to provide RP events for the guests, you're going to need staff, and by far the best way to do that is to get together with a group of others that want to provide this too. If there's a group of you, and you're all investing in the concept by sharing the costs as well as providing the experience, it will make it easier on your pocket and no one person has to shoulder the burden alone.

It is going to take a while for word to get around, so you may all be twiddling your thumbs for a while, and of course, you're still going to be paying for the region in that time.

It may be more prudent to 'test the waters' by maybe opening a restaurant, either on a mainland parcel (water and road access would be a great draw), or renting a parcel in a family RP estate. You can then hone your skills as a service, and get some idea of the sort of appeal this kind of thing would have for others. You would also be able to build up a clientele list that you can notify if you do decide to expand at a later date by providing a full vacation experience.

Whatever you do decide to do, I wish you luck, as I love to see this sort of creativity.

I posted it HERE originally but this seems a better place:

I have a wild guess to offer: There is a diffuse MASS of homes east of Bellisseria but by now they added a coastline with seashore. What hits me is that there are no homes in that very preferrred locations next to the sea!! What if they have a new coastal housetype, but instead of putiing it into the postboxes or making a new continent for it they place them along these shorelines?

Allthough if you TP there it does not seem so. Shore is mostly blocked ba a chain of mountains.

Will they really waste all that precious seaview parcels on nothing but landscape? Not even pretty landscape!

Still many more themes to come in the future, maybe they’ll be kept for one of them :)

After thinking about it for months and being unable to decide I finally found out which of the VERY NICE homes I posess amongst my Premiumalts is the one I liked a wee bit less than the others. I decided to give away my Christmas present.

The seawiev Traditional I cought on Christmas day at Conger Reef.

This time not to make anyone cry I will announce it well before I let it go ;)

Today Sunday the 21. at 11:00 SLT it will go onto the market. So who wants it get ready to snatch it.

That looks a lovely location, and appears to me to be exactly the sort of spot that a lot of Game of Homes players are questing for!

I think it’s an excellent idea to put it up with good notice :D

  14. There are two dates on my account page. The upper date in ‘Account Summary’ is called ‘Next billing renewal date’ and relates to my premium account payment, and then lower on the page in the section marked ‘Land Holdings’ is ‘Next bill date’. This next bill date is when the tier on my account is charged each month, and that is usually set as the date in the month following the acquisition of any land where a tier payment is first required. If I were to subsequently reduce my holdings so that no tier was payable, the date for any future tier payments required if I then purchased more at a later time, would always fall on that date in the month.

One of my accounts has the same date for both each month as that a/c bought extra land (so that tier would be paid) on the same day as becoming premium.

  15. From the Auctions FAQ:

“Can anyone in Second Life buy land in the auctions?

No. Only residents that have Premium memberships are eligible to participate in auctions.  Your account must also have a Verified email address and a Linden dollar (L$) balance sufficient to make a bid.”

As a Charter Member you are still able to buy land as you have the 4096 allocation, but just not via the auctions.

If you’re wanting to use the auctions, make an alt and buy it a premium membership. But honestly, I think you’d be much better off just looking at the yellow for sale parcels on the world map, or the sale listings, and buying a parcel from that, or finding some abandoned land and submitting a ticket to buy it.

The Land Store (where you purchase land) is a different page and section than the Linden Home page.  The Land Store is still closed. 🙂

Oh my, apologies my mistake. As it was posted in the Linden Homes, Bellisserian homes last seen thread I assumed it was referring to the Linden Home page. Had I read the text on the picture I might have had a clue... but I'd just woken up... that's my excuse ;)

I am new to selling land and I am curious if its better to set the parcels at sizes that are at the limits for each tier such as 1024, 2048, 4096 etc rather than to have 'odd-sized' land like 2816 or 3200.  I have some land I would like to sell, but I am willing to size-down and abandon if the land will sell better that way.  Thanks for any advice.

If the area is quite sought after, and especially if there is no other abandoned/land for sale in the region, then try it as one parcel. You are right though about the tier sizes being particularly attractive, but if you are able to carry on paying your tier while you sell, then don't just abandon the off-cuts. As long as they're a reasonable shape some people (I've done this myself) are happy to buy small parcels to use up available group bonus where they've been purchasing regular sized parcels.

One of the clubs in world is owned by a charter member and mentioned it's nice not to worry about tier or annual membership. I don't plan to cash out either and let the L$ until I need them. Too bad they couldn't do a special like maybe for $200 or $300 have a "Lifetime" premie level with at least 2048 for the land.

US$200 will get you 2048 sqm of land. But that’s paying for two premium accounts, and is an annual payment. I would think for a ‘Lifetime’ premium a/c with 2048 sqm you’d possibly be looking nearer US$1000 minimum :(
