  1. Yesterday I was given useful info here when I asked about the wisdom (or otherwise) of clearing Cache - link Rolig gave a link to a Firestorm Support page. On there, I read the following .. "We get asked a lot about what to set cache size to; the simple answer is to set it to the maximum possible in the viewer, as long as you have room on your hard drive. In Firestorm, the cache size can be increased to 9,984 MB." As it happens, I use the LL Viewer; out of curiosity, I took a look at my Cache size in Preferences. It is set at 512 MB - which must either be a default or a judgement as to what is appropriate for my PC (similar to the Graphics settings they give you). That 512 MB seems quite low to me and I am planning to increase it. Beyond the considerations of what else one uses the computer for (ie.files and programs other than SL), is there any downside to increasing Cache? [If it is relevant to my query, these are my machine's specs:- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50GHz RAM: 8 GB Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 OS: Windows7 ]
  2. I often hear (in Local Chat) other avatars saying they are going to log off, clear cache and log back in again. Now, if I TP to a different sim/parcel, it can often take a little while for the textures and meshes (especially avatar bodies) to either change from grey or become visible. I am thinking that this must be my cache getting re-populated. Myself, I just wait. Can anyone give me an Idiot's guide to this matter? OR pass on a Link to an imformative page. [EDIT :- Reply to the Replies] All three answers were clear and helpful - and it was worth distinguising between the types of Cache. I think I can safely continue as before and not bother with clearing Textures, etc And Madelaine, my spade rarely disturbs the sub-soil ...
  3. Auburn every time - not sure if they have more fun, but it does it for me ...
  4. Anyway, if your "Health Bar" is a HUD, then it will need to llListen to an inworld object and change its texture accordingly.
  5. Your English is fine; way better than my German. But I dont understand how you are able to do all the things you mention, viz. " creating the weapons, textures and sounds is for me not any problem also not the idea behind the fight system which should more work with traps, knife fight and some guns" and still call yourself a noob in scripting.
  6. .... for a day LL disabled the Teleport and Fly menu options (for Mainland) ? To get from A to B, your avatar has to walk/run or drive/sail/pilot a "vehicle". I would relish the challenge. Almost certainly I would a) see "builds" (good and bad) I would not have otherwise come across, and b) utter bad language at the obstacles posed by selfish Ban-lines and "Security Orbs".
  7. But I am sure such a "mashup" could be done! Your tastes in music are even more catholic than my own - afraid I have to pass on the classic rock,(only some of it) jazz, and Tchaikovsky.

I would love to attend one of your gigs - cant imagine what Monteverdi,John Coltrane and Tammy Wynette would be like, played back to back.

  10. " ... what does the rest of the world think?" Well, as a European, the Confederate flag is a very familiar image; we might vaguely know about its origin in the American Civil War, but for us it doesn't generally come freighted with awkward moral or ideological worries. (Though I can see how it would be so much "closer to the bone" for you Americans. Incidentally, where we tend to see it most often is on the leather jackets and machines of hard-core bikers.
  11. Even in the right mood, I get tense about the past interfering with the present.
  12. Surely "Joe" is confusing mood and tense here.
  13. I don't think you get the essence of either orthography or numeracy. There is no misspelling, "punnish" or otherwise, required to derive DESERTS from each half of the clue for 1. across.
  14. (new grid, same theme) 1. across Abandons the arid wastes. (7) 1. down Under pressure? Go back! Mere trifles. (8)
  15. 1.across Celtic troll hearing an arm-bone on a sheltered shore. 1.down Fair puddings.
  16. Link of the month! After a trying day at work, this cheered me up no end. The 2nd tune is the most pertinent to the OP.
  17. Come on, it aint that hard! Try "loo - lith". Or "thleth".
  18. It is not clear what "The Battle" is advertising as a product - a dance HUD? I realise that it chimes with the Harry Potter School of chess cinematography, but the game can continue even if the Queen dies (is captured).
  19. I followed your link for LibreCAD. I know from past experience of "free" software that often they are in effect demo versions. They might work nicely in their own right, but it is using their file format that can be problematic. Anyway, on the LibreCAD Users Manual, it states this:- So, I am assuming I should be able to export = import to Gimp. I just need to download it and test, I suppose. Thanks for the info.
  20. Hey thanks for replying. With regard to geometric drawing in Gimp, the only thing I ever could manage was the Shft-clicking thing to get a straight line and watch the cursor numbers - a cumbersome technique. I assume you know better ways to use Gimp for this type of drawing. (Any tips would be welcome!) I have not tried SketchUp - was (probably unfairly) ill-disposed towards it due to comments from an RL offline acquaintance.
  21. Any suggestions for a lightweight (=inexpensive) programme ? Occasionally, I need an exact geometric line-drawing for my texture creation - so it is useful to import that as a layer in Gimp. I must emphasise that I do not need it in any professional capacity; it is just for my SL doodlings. So, I am not about to buy AutoCad !! ( I used to have one called VectorEngineer Pro-Tools, but it got lost on a defunct PC.) Thanks in advance ....
  22. Would some kind person give me the name of a region I can log into, where rezzing is permitted? [edited] yes, Rolig, Mesh Sandbox1 as a region in the login page field works. However I had no joy using the Search option where I already was - it just gave info about the main grid as far as I could see ...
  23. Well, obviously I can because I am a freshly-minted account = alt. So ... when I tried to post just now with my original (by the name of Roscoea, btw), the "Start a Thread" button was greyed out - actually more light blue ... Also there was no way to ask a Q. here on Answers. I know what is behind this; a post on the subject of the Scottish Independence referendum was removed by whoever moderates these Forums. I thought such topics were permissible in the General Discussion Forum - obviously not .... OK, my Q. boils down to this - how does Roscoea stop being persona non grata with LL? How do they rehabilitate themselves and come in from the cold?
