    Hi Feral,

Firstly, i just would like to say im very sorry for the nuisance you are currently experiencing. I agree when people say its mainland and people have a right to put in their parcel what they choose, however, there is a level of respect and obligation to respect your fellow residents this common sense rule applies with living in Secondlife as well as living in RL.

In my opinion  your neighbour's wall is very offensive and rude, the intruding wall has basically shut out any feeling of wanting to confront your neighbour in a civil manner to even discuss, hense his response to you is just as blocking and obnoxious in his attitude as well as his ridiculous wall.

Unfortunately i am experiencing the exact same treatment. Prior to my experience i have never come across such vindictive treatment from a person. I moved into my dream area to build a small marina on a open sailing sim. i was editing my home on the terrain trying to blend in the scenery and the landowner behind me decided to drop a 62 meter high Rock house directly behind me.

this Rock house has blocked out all my views and sky views. I asked her politely to lower the home she said she would but she decided to raise the home even higher. After no attempt was made to lower the home i wrote her a note card explaining to her in a polite manner that her rock house is taking away the enjoyment from my land hoping she would please lower it.

when i came online the next day she had now erected two extra large water rock water falls on either side of the rock house and completely blocked off my parcel. I couldn't believe it. Not only had she done that she then proceeded to return any landscaping items i.e palm trees that i rezzed to try and soften the monstrosity as the leaves were slightly hanging onto her land also terrain i placed that was under the ground she destroyed that too by returning it to me.

she banned me from her land and also she is now banning my renters from her land and they have absolutely nothing to do with this!.

i decided enough was enough i banned her, muted her and derendered her objects and rezzed a 62m mega prim with a bright glowing orange colour on her side and translucent on my side, ( please note this will only affect her as she owns most of the sim behind me). i have sent endless support tickets to LL and they did not even respond to me!!, its absolutely disgraceful. I wont take down the colour prim until she plays fair, which will probably be never.

I asked around about her and i was told she has done this countless times to others that live and have lived in the area, she has about 50 people banned from her land. Its just wrong that LL don't do anything to help when ultimately they are the only ones who can fix this, its very frustrating indeed.

Goodluck Feral, i hope your neighbour will soon see some reason.

Whoa! First of all, hi Zanna! It's nice to meet you.

Secondly, I'm sorry to disappoint you, however, the brief conflict I had with my male neighbor was fairly-peacefully resolved some 2 to 3 months ago! After a tense verbal exchange between the two of us, he finally agreed to take his high walls down. In their place, he first erected some kind of large, old-looking building. This didn't block my view, however. At least not completely. Now, he has a large, empty warehouse-type of a building, which is both shorter and smaller than the old 'opera-house' he had. Since neither building has not completely block my views, I didn't and won't bother him to remove it.

Below is a snapshot of the warehouse, though again, I am not bothered by it.

As for your nasty neighbor, I am terribly sorry to hear about what she has erected...And so darn close to your property to! o_o This 'rock-home' she has could almost pass for a small mountain, considering it's giant size. By Jove! If this chick wants to live in a cave/rock-home like a neanderthal or an Orc, why doesn't she either play Elder Scrols Online or go find an isolated mountain-parcel, somewhere? Better yet, she could find herself one of those isolated private islands...Ha! Then, she can build any ugly, old thing she wanted! Now as to the way she's been treating you and your fellow renters?

Well, I could suggest retaliating in any sort of a number of ways against her. But mentioning any such things here in this forum would likely go against LL's Terms of Service, and either result in them shutting down this forum thread, banning my account, or worse yet, both. So, I am afraid I cannot make those kinds of suggestions. But all you've done already was a good enough start. I would recommend you allow your renters to make use of security orbs, which will instantly-teleport her and whatever guests she has visiting her back to her cave-man's rock-home, should they dare to enter their land. You can have such an orb to, if you want. As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with protecting your property as such.

Hopefully, this Orc-like chick won't be settling onto your area for a long time. As for my relationship with my neighbor-to-the-West? It is only but a non-aggression pact we hold. Good luck to you as well, Zanna. We can be frends to, if you want.

  2. Hi, Annebell.

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you. Thanks for the tip, as well. I've had a little experience with jointly-building and scripting an object with someone else...Two people, in fact. One of them was incredibly-skilled at scripting. And she used to be active within the Builders' Brewery community. I only hope someone will get on board with me on this project. It's based on a lengthy novel series I've been writing, since I was only 7 years young. And I worked really hard on writing, copyrighting, and publishing it.

I don't know if this means anything to you or not. I just thought you might want to know the backstory behind the idea of my project. ~Henry

  3. In the Sky Fighters novella/novel series, many of the characters train in battle and thus, 'advance' to higher Level Stages. At a certain Stage, their bodies grow out wings, which they can use to fly with. As they continue to gradually grow older and stronger, their wings grow larger and more elaborate in time. Naturally, this enables them to fly faster and further than they would be able to, otherwise. These wings are typically white and feathered, similar to the wings of an angel, rather than of a bat. My goal (Just in time for my RL birthday and SL rez-day) is to create a set of wings, which work similarly to those in my series.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I plan to sell unlimited copies of this project in the Second Life Marketplace. However, due to the complex nature of it, I would need both a builder/designer and a scripter in order for this project to be realized. As of this date, I already have a scripter, so now, I need a builder. Both parties will be paid AT LEAST 5,000 Lindens up-front, plus a commission percentage of the profits I make from selling them in my Marketplace Shop. Contact me in-world for details.

This concept will showcase the wings at 5 different Level Stages, which have titles. To start off, the avatar will be asked to select one of the following Elements: Thunder, Wind, Fire, Light, Dark, Water, or Earth. After this is done, and at the lowest Stage, Aquarian Stage, the wings come with no particular bonuses, and the wings are on the small side, but still large enough to enable flight, logically. An avatar would have to wear these wings for 15 minutes before they would advance to the next Level Stage.

The next stage, Mohawk Stage, allows the wings to grow slightly larger, while also allowing the use of the Super Speed Spell, which not only would allow one's avatar to fly twice as fast as normal, but also allow them to sprint on the ground, twice as fast as normal. This ability can be used for up to 1 minute, before expiring. After this, it needs to recharge for a minute before being used again. Unlocking this Level Stage should require the wings to be worn for at least 30 minutes and for the Super Speed Spell to be used at least 3 times. This would prevent power-leveling. Of course, an avatar could also downgrade to this previous Level Stage, but considering the perk they've just gained, why in blue blazes would they want to?

At the next Level Stage, JUPITER Stage, the wings once again grow just a tad larger. A few of the feathers gain a certain color, depending on the Element which the avatar selected when first wearing them. This color would be blue for Thunder, green for Wind, red for Fire, yellow for Light, purple for Dark, turquoise for Water, and orange for Earth. This also allows for the use of the Flicker Speed Spell, which allows one's avatar to fly and sprint on the ground three times faster than normal. Using the Flicker Speed would enable the avatar to create after-images' of themselves while running or flying due to the increased speed at which their body is moving. This ability can be used for up to 5 minutes before timing out. After this, it needs to recharge for 3 minutes before being used again. Unlocking this Level Stage should require the wings to be worn for at least 45 minutes, and for the Flicker Speed Spell to be used at least 4 times. This would prevent further power-leveling and/or god-modding. Of course, an avatar could also downgrade to this previous Level Stage, or any other, but considering the perks they've just gained, why in blue blazes would they want to?

At the next Level Stage, MASTER Stage, the wings once again grow a tad larger. This time around, the upper, outer tips grow a 'spike-feather', which curves up and out, slightly. In addition to this, a few more of the feathers gain a second Elemental color, in addition to the first one gained at JUPITER Stage. This color would be yellow for Thunder, turquoise for Wind, orange for Fire, green for Light, red for Dark, purple for Water, and blue for Earth. And finally, the avatar would also be able to utilize the Light Speed Spell, which would allow them to fly and sprint on the ground a whopping 4 times faster than normal! Utilizing Light Speed would envelop the would-be Sky Fighter-Avatar in a thin, but powerful comet-like stream of medium-purple light. Due to the insane speed at which an avatar would be moving, this ability can only be used for up to 3 minutes before timing out. After this, it requires 5 minutes of re-charging time. Unlocking this Level Stage should require the wings to be worn for at least 60  minutes, and for the Flicker Speed Spell to be used at least 5 times. This would prevent still further power-leveling and/or god-modding. Of course, an avatar could also downgrade to this previous Level Stage, or any other, but considering the perks they've just gained, why in blue blazes would they want to? All other abilities from all previous Level Stages can also be used (Such as Flicker Speed). Just click on the wings and select the ability from the blue menu which appears to use it.

Upon reaching the final Level Stage, MASTER Stage SUPREME, the wings would be at their largest possible size, which would probably be far larger than they were when an avatar first started using them. Plus, the upper, outer 'spike-feather' tips would extend further, and curl into a full-on spiral-shape! In addition to this, a final few more of the feathers gain a third Elemental color, in addition to the first two previously-gained. Of course, after all these colors introduced, a few feathers on their wings would still remain white. As for the third Elemental colored feathers, they would be red for Thunder, blue for Wind, yellow for Fire, turquoise for Light, orange for Dark, green for Water, and purple for Earth. And last, but certainly not least of all, the Sky Fighter-Avatar using these epic wings would be able to Summon a Spiraling-Lance in their right hand, and use it and their Light Speed Spell to unleash the all-powerful Flying Spindle Attack!! This epic spell inflicts 50% of LL-Damage and can be used up to 3 times in rapid-succession, before needing to re-charge. To use it, make sure there is an avatar within 20 meters of you, then click on the wings and select Flying Spindle Attack! Then, click on any avatar within this range to unleash it! When using the Flying Spindle Attack, your avatar will appear similar to when they utilize the Light Speed Spell, however, instead of their stream being colored medium-purple, it (And the Spindle-Lance they Summon just before unleashing it) are the same color as the Element they selected when first equipping their wings...For instance blue for Thunder, green for Wind, red for Fire, and so on. All other abilities from all previous Level Stages can also be used (Such as Flicker Speed and Light Speed). Just click on the wings and select the ability from the blue menu which appears to use it. Of course, an avatar could also downgrade to this previous Level Stage, or any other, but considering all of the awesome perks they've just gained, there's no way they'd want to!

I think this covers everything. Let me know if I've left anything out and if you want to aid me or not.

Cheers from Henry - 2nd NOTICE: While I am fully-able to follow this forum thread, the best way to contact me would be to send me an IM and/or note-card in-world. Thanks for understanding!

If that is the case, you return the encroaching objects. But perhaps it's not neccessary to return stuff that aren't really in the way and I thought that was what this discussion was about.

Hi again! I'm sorry for not responding to this topic for a while. But as I am the OP, then I would like to point out in which what @ChinRey said here is correct: This is a but a discussion to determine...

1: Whether people feel better living on the mainland, a private island, a rental-space, or a Linden Home.

2: What would constitute a need to return someone else's property, if it happens to be close to the border of someone else's land and if it's 'getting in the way' of their parcel somehow or not.

As a side-note, I generally won't return anything or make any complaints to said neighbors about their items, unless...I: They are indeed encroaching into my virtual territory. If this is the case, I'll send a request note first to move or remove the object in question. II: If it's a wall/privacy wall, which prevents me from seeing anything beyond it or obstructs my fences or gates. And those fences and gates are definitely on the small side. And so far, no-one ever had a problem with them.

It's easy to see why. It's uncomplicated for a start.

Also of course, a large proportion of SL's clientelle are American upper middle class and for many of them such a setting is bound to have considerable nostalgical value. For other Americans who came from slightly lower social classes, living in a posh (from their point of view) suburbian home would have been a childhood dream. Childhood memories and childhood dreams, those are strong attractions, especially for the age groups the majority of SL'ers seem to have reached these days.

But that brings up another important reason why I wish there was more cultural diversity in SL - and why LL should wish there was. Almost half the population of Second Life are American. I can't see any particular reason why virtual reality in general should be more popular in the USA than in the world at large but Second Life obviously is. Imagine if LL had managed to reach the international audience as effectively as they do the people in their own home country. SL would have been at least five times, maybe more than ten times even, as big as it is today.

LL has really tried at various times. We have a "Japanese" Linden Homes theme and "Japanese", "Korean" and "French" mainland continents but for all their efforts and good intentions they never amounted to more than superficial Disneylandish mockups at best because they could never crack the code. They never understood this and they still don't.

I don't really think Bellisseria is to big. It does suffer from too much copy-and-paste building (and of course, dodgy craftmanship under the hood) but isolated, as a theme in itself it's probably about the size it should be. It's just disproportionately sized because everything else in SL is too small.

I really hate to double-post and I usually don't. But I just have to say this one additional thing, which I forgot to mention earlier. Along with a question: What kinds of prims make up the homes, trees, and other primitives, which are widely available on Bellisseria? Regular? Sculpty? Mesh?  The above post I quoted says the continent is uncomplicated. I ask because all the times I've been there, the lag has been so unreal for me, which even something simple as keeping myself logged in there (While on decent graphical settings) has been largely-unsuccessful, to say the least. Has anyone else had this problem? Please let me know. Thanks again!

You need to look at the entire continent of Bellisseria for the new Linden Homes, not just one region. There are currently 5 themes available with a 6th theme pending release, and a 7th theme just revealed (and more themes to come!). Each theme has several different designs of building that you can select for your parcel. The fact that this entire continent is occupied, and with people still waiting for the new releases, it really is a case that the Lindens DID in fact get it right. That said, it's not something that will appeal to everyone, and certainly those that do not wish to be restricted by a covenant still have plenty of mainland to build their dreams.

I'm very happy to have a home in Bellisseria and also a mainland parcel situated next to a wonderful town that I try to support by renting some property there too. With travel (by vehicle rather than teleport) being my main activity in SL, the fact that I can travel between my mainland properties and Bellisseria is a constant delight for me :)

The Linden Homes sub forum can be found just along from this one, and will showcase many of the regions there should you wish to have a look without having to travel.

No, they are only fairly minor variations on the same basic style. But, let's be clear about this: it's not the Moles' fault! All creators have their style and they build within the framework they are familar and comfortable with. There are a few multi-stylists who can cover several - perhaps four or five - bases but no pan-stylists who can do everything. You can't do US style if you're born and raised in Europe or Japan, you can't do Japanese style if you're born and raised in USA or Europe, you can't do European style if... etc., etc. Not unless you're willing to spend ages studying and learning a foreign culture that is.

What I would have loved to see in a virtual world, is a large variety of styles created by people from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds and with smooth, natural transitions between them - that transition is actually far more about where people build than what they build. Just like the Real World. We still have the variety in SL although there seems to be less of it every day but we never had those smooth transitions. I suppose that was always too mcuh to ask for but I can dream, can't I?

Well, when I read these two posts about Bellisseria, I was actually considering attempting to obtain a parcel on it, until I read this post: "Bellisseria theme homes are snapped up pretty much as soon as they appear. Abandoned land is only ever there for a handful of minutes." ...And this one: "I avoid their damnable covenant, the architecture I cannot stand and having neighbors whose one joy in life is measuring the height of people's trees so they can AR them." <---- Do people on this continent really AR trees if they're even a little taller than usual? And is there actually a covenant governing their height? I love having tall trees. Not gigantic ones, but not all tiny ones either. If anyone can clarity this for me, I would appreciate it.

It's a name for the continent where new LL homes are. It has a special covenant, so it's not exactly a mainland without rules, but not an island either. As for the monotony. Go take a look, here's one of regions for example. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Bellesford/200/208/43

I suppose it does beats some lame "50L rentals" or ancient LL homes, and house itself is not counted towards 351li limit for those parcels, but it sure does look almost sterile.

Ahh, so this is the region you're all referring to. I like the fact it has trees and many gable-roof houses, but I can completely understand how having this one theme be repeated over and over again can quickly become dull and ordinary. I'm sorry to hear about how the Lindens didn't get this new continent right, either. If I were them, I would have included more of a variety of houses of different styles (No flat roofs, though), such as outdoor spiral staircases, homes with stained glass windows, and perhaps tree-houses!

I should explain that I, too, don't grief unless they grief first, and by "grief," I don't mean violate the TOS.

It's rare I have had to put out a glowing nuclear power station. Maybe 2-3 times in my second life? Example: a woman blocks a lake that a half dozen property owners have lived around happily for years and years, all doing their part to keep the lake open. Here the Lindens are conflict drivers, as they would parcel up water to be sold that should have been left as Linden water. The middle of a lake should not be sold. Sometimes this happens because people abandon parts of land once contiguous, but all too often it's their bad parceling which I guess was necessary because they couldn't hold too much untiered land. (But the result was that they ended up holding even MORE abandoned land).

So this woman puts up a huge ugly build AND blocks her land so that no one on that lake can go on it any more. It's truly appalling. The build was bad enough -- the blocking was insane. So we all worked together to get her to stop. That mean everyone banned her, so that she was locked in on all sides. The Lindens will stop you from blocking someone on your own on all four sides, even if they deserve it, e.g. by putting up an ugly ad farm and putting it to sale at an extortionist price. Many a battle with Lindens was held on that account.

But if 4 or 6 property owners all get together to block an obnoxious person, they can't do anything. You can also try ARing such people although there really aren't grounds for it technically.

Then I put up a glowing atomic station, someone else put up a giant toilet, other people put up other things so that her view was as ruined for her as ours was looking on to her tall, ugly build. I find so often people don't realize when they look out on a lovely view other people are tiering for them, they themselves are creating an ugly view we have to look at with photo real boards and such.

Finally, this woman sold her land to a land dealer. It didn't get purchased again right away because it was set high. The as it happened on Canada Day, I was flying over the water and it said "On sale for Canada Day!" and I decided to buy it and keep it free and clear, with the exception of some plants and fish underneath and some docks around the edges.  I think my neighbours appreciated this, and some of them regularly donate to my land preserve; others don't because they think rentals agents must be wealthy. Oh, well.

Thank you, @Prokofy Neva for pointing all of this out for me and us. I'm sorry to hear about the lady who put up a huge ugly build AND blocked her land so no one could use her portion of the lake. May I ask what size and shape of a build she had? And @Mollymews , I personally love the idea of ninja building for someone. This way, if anyone happens to have an incomplete parcel, and they're willing to accept outside help, I'd be more than glad to do whatever I can to make their look decent.

Though, unfortunately for me (And probably them to), they likely won't let me do such a thing, as they prefer to decorate their own spaces on the Grid. Ah well.

I just don't like it, I don't think teleporting is a substitute, and so I prefer Mainland. I try to make the parts of it I'm responsible for look good, and I try to work with neighbours.

I find that often if you wait for something to go away, it does, soon. So my first reaction to a neighbour doing something I don't like, such as having a ridiculously stupid media on a prim show that can be heard on the next sim, which tenants don't know to right-click on and block to get rid of as an annoyance, is to wait 30 days to see if he leaves or his club fails -- they often do.

Next, I send a short IM asking if they can remove the wall or put clear on one side of it and I explain that they can put "avatars can't see me" and be invisible to get rid of something overbearing like that.

Or I write to the agency that puts giant domes taking up the entire sim into the view, instead of raising them a few hundred feet -- because they can extract more money from the sim in that way. Since they have vacancies like every other agency, they should eliminate that bottom dome, have better relations with their neighbours, and become a better citizen of the Mainland instead of causing people to abandon land for 8 sims around -- thereby enabling them to buy more cheap land and spread the domes further. I collect signatures for a petition. I boycott all their events and companies. They aren't likely to change, but there is a growing coherent sentiment against them, maybe they will.

If someone puts those ridiculous yellow "crime scene" tapes around their lot, I explain that the viewer has a function to make borders visible; midnight mode works best. I operate on the assumption that the person creating the annoyance may NOT know there are other options, although in reality, I find most people doing this sort of thing operate from the "I can do WTF I want on my land and FU" mantra.

So then my next step is to ban them from my land, especially if they have "access only" or security orbs making boats and planes fail.

If they have really obnoxious and ugly builds with horrible messages to boot, and particles flying, I abuse report it, I get others to AR, sometimes that work.

Sometimes I put up my own unattractive poster and sometimes that works.

When all else fails, I take out "Power to the People," a large, glowing nuclear reactor. Sometimes that helps to concentrate the little minds wonderfully. Sometimes not. Solidarity and concerted efforts among neighbours on a sim is vital.

Some people will make one side of a wall clear, but many will not, thinking this helps privacy. So cam in and take pictures of their yard and home, send them to the neighbour, and explain that walls do not create privacy. They create ugliness in the view. So they should turn off "avatars can see me". And think possibly of moving up to the sky out of the view.

If nothing works and you are unhappy, sell or abandon your land and move to another sim. It's a buyer's market.

Oh wow! First of all, I am thoroughly-impressed with all these helpful and friendly replies I've gotten here. @Prokofy Neva I am terribly sorry to hear of the bad experiences you may have had with your neighbors in the past. I try to make my builds as reasonable and lag-free as I can. I also try to reason and reach a fair agreement with him or her or them. I never grief, unless they do so, first. And even then, I never persist. 9 times out of 10, I just block and ban, with a keep calm and carry on mantra.

I'm a Mainlander, I love living in mainland, because i like having total freedom, and i also like the feeling that I'm actually living in big world, not some utopian communities like private regions and Belliseria?, I have many big lands in mainland, and I had no problems with my neighbors, but just recently I was working on my winter land I spent hours trying to make things fit in the right places, the next day I logged in and I find some of my landscaping were returned to me! because it slightly just very very slightly crossed my neighbors land (no land impact), there was nothing in the land behind me for months it was empty( he lives in a land right next to his empty land ), but suddenly he decided to have an ugly huge wall with an ugly house and an ugly brightens all over the place right behind my house and he returned all my things without saying anything, I spent hours working on it, and he simply clicked one button and poof!!
That was so rude, and I got so mad, I didn't even want to contact him, so first I banned him so he should see my ban lines as a beautiful view, also I had a huge privacy screen blocking his view completely ( I transparent it from my side ) he can derender it but he will always know it's there.
I've never done these kind of things in all my years in SL!

And that was my first bad experience in mainland or even SL in general.

And @SarahThe Wanderer it's to bad you to have had to put up with a nasty neighbor, who didn't think twice of returning your hard landscaping work/items. I don't know of anyone personally who doesn't care if any number of objects they placed on their own land have been returned to them. I do have one workaround for this, however: Create a NC and copy/paste the X, Y, Z coordinates of every object you have placed on your land, which anyone living nearby could potentially return. By doing this, you'll be able to replace them (Hopefully without a second return) more easily, as long as you have the note-card with your object's name and coordinates.

...And what in blue blazes is this Bellisseria sim everyone keeps mentioning? I've never heard of it, but @ChinRey describes it as a 'dull monotony'. How is this possible, I wonder?

Judging by the size of your fence, I would guess the wall is 4-5 m high. I can not see it violating any of LL rules.

If your neighbor owns all up to your fence, his wall physically stop you from opening your gate and wander in to his property. That is not unreasonable. And if you aren't welcome, I would not walk on his ground anyway.

I would prefer walls instead of banlines.

Banlines is a greater nuisance because you can fly over a wall, instead of flying around.

I admit that one of the reasons I use Firestorm, is because I can derender walls like this. I have one against me, it is one of those fake cliff walls. Select, derender, problem solved.

I do not like all things around me. The worst is snow set to full bright. Yuck! And flowers. Plus too much glow. Glow and full bright should only be used in timy amounts. Either you have taste, or not. I think maybe their computers have so low graphic that they can't see it. Or they have set a fixed windlight and never see it in the dark.

Around me I have derendered the wall I mention, but also, on the other side, some cliff walls that are really bad. It is dark, almost black rocks that is so 2006 in texturing. Black lava rocks with fake waterfalls. I derender those as well, and lower draw distance, so I can't see the house, that has a lot of glowing parts.

I have not talked to any neighbor when I live on Mainland or other places... I prefer to handle it myself. Derender, set lower draw distance and ignore smaller things I dislike, is the three things I do.

I think this is normal Mainland, normal for me. I live on a region corner, so I always turn to the open water and don't look so much in other directions.

    Hiyo, Marianne!

First of all, while browsing this section of the forums, I saw another post from you on a totally different topic. So, please allow me to extend my warmest salutations to you and seasonal holiday wishes as well. I'm so glad to actually meet you here in a thread I've started! 😄

Secondly, please let me point out the fact this guy actually DID remove his wall. Thus, (At least for now) I don't have to worry about seeing it smack-dab in my face every time I log in. Thirdly, because he and I are not angry (Or hangry) at each other, I do hope to have at least an agreeable relationship with him, until and maybe even after he moves away. Or if he moves away. He has told me he spends between $400 and $600 a month on this game alone...

...Let this number sink in for a moment. How much do I spend on it? About $75 to $80 a month. This is a mere drop in the bucket by comparison! And I commend him for being financially-successful to. But earlier today, I received an NC from him, asking me to remove/move certain objects on my parcel so they wouldn't be so close to his. Wanting to maintain an honest relationship with him, I obliged as best as I could and sent him a reply note in response. I even asked specifically what he wanted me to move/remove in said note. I didn't check back in with him yet, but I can only hope we can reach a viable agreement and maintain positivity on both sides of the 'fence'.

  11. Hi, everyone! S'mee, Feral Henry again.

This is not a rant or anything 'destructive'. I generally detest the idea of posting in forums due to previous unfavorable experiences I've had on them. This time however, I come to all of you with a question (Or two) in regards to what it's like to live on the Mainland in Second Life. I'd also like to share an experience I had with my newest neighbor, which is still somewhat on-going. This had to do with some pretty massive walls which a new neighbor of mine reluctantly agreed to remove after I asked him about doing so or at least making them invisible and phantom.

First my question(s) to you: 1: What is it like to live on the Mainland in Second Life? I have been living on it for at least 6 to 8 years now. And I haven't had to many problems until I moved into my current home. In order to protect my neighbors' privacy, I won't state which region I live on...Yet, anyway. Which brings me to question #2: Have you ever had any problems with neighbors or have they ever given you any trouble about certain items/objects you had rezzed on your land or which they had rezzed on theirs? 3: ...And speaking of rezzed items, have any neighbors rezzed anything right next to the border(s) of your land and/or your other neighbors' parcels, which not only spoiled your view of the surrounding parcels, but also made region-crossing or opening/closing gates you may have had somewhat difficult to impossible to achieve? I ask because I recently had a neighbor 'move-in' and rez HUGE stone walls, which did precisely what I mentioned.

I will show you a pictures or two of the walls in question, if this is allowed here. Then, you can all judge for yourself whether this constituted violating any of LL's ToS. Cheers!

  12. Or more specifically...

What are the best rocks, minerals, plants, trees, and similar/identical objects, which I can place on my land in Second Life? I already have some natural objects (Including a number of animals), but I'd like rocks, plants, and such which I can change the seasons of, so my lands look more natural. So, please freely send me your Marketplace recommendations...Cheers! EDIT: I already tried to run a search for this, but came up empty, so this is why I'm asking here.

Ouch, a broken gacha item. Probably no-copy, so you can't rez a fresh one, and you're not a customer of the creator, so no fix.

Rotation speed is a persistent prim property, but not quite persistent enough. See http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlTargetOmega

This kind of rotation is actually done in the viewer. The viewer gets an object update when the object comes into view telling the object to rotate in the viewer. The object then continues to rotate without further attention from the server. That's an SL feature to reduce server to viewer traffic for things like wheels, so you're not frantically commanding "left front wheel, rotate 3 degrees counterclockwise" 20 times a second for each wheel.

However, viewer side things such as trying to edit the object can sometimes stop it, and it may not get restarted. If there's a script managing the windmill, it might get restarted.

Logging out and logging back in may help.

Buying a non-gacha windmill will help. There are many windmills on Marketplace. Land impact, price, and quality vary widely.

Ironically enough, my windmill is not a gacha item. And yet, it is also no-copy. I went as far as to contact LL and have them attempt a region-restart. Well, this did absolutely no good! So, I tried once again resetting the windmill 'blade' scripts, re-logging, and re-rezzing it...None of which worked. My last repair attempt, as had been suggested by the Linden, was to contact the creator directly. I asked him via NC to see if he could fix the script in my rezzed windmill. Hopefully, he will oblige and not block me in frustration. EDIT: The gacha windmill on the other sim now seems to be fixed.

  14. Hello all!

I'm having a problem, which I notice at least one other person or group on another sim is having as well. I notice there are at least a couple different windmills, where the blades no longer rotate. I see this happened with mine and someone else's on a public sim. Does anyone have any idea why this could be?

Note: My windmill is called the Rustic Windmill. And it was built by Aniki Adamczyk. The other windmill is called the 02_8f8 - New Beginnings - Windmill RARE, which is a gacha item. Though this other one isn't mine. And when I was on the sim it was on, I saw its 'blade' wasn't spinning either. However, the windmill sound can still be heard playing on both mine and the other one. And yesh, I have tried resetting the script for my windmill and its 'blade'.

  15. Hey.

Listen, I was one of the people affected by this rather annoying glitch. My good friend, gingerholly Resident is also affected, and the above fix didn't work for her. (-_-) In fact, she and I just ran another test on it and neither one of us received the IM we sent to each other. So, nice try, Rolig, but your stop-gap solution didn't work 100%. I can still read the note-cards people send me, but everything else gets automatically hidden...Even when the above measures are taken. We need a better work-around...NOW!!

ALM = Advanced Lighting Model aka "deferred rendering"
If you are running the viewer with ALM disabled, you are using "forward rendering".
    Technical stuffs: https://gamedevelopment.tutsplus.com/articles/forward-rendering-vs-deferred-rendering--gamedev-12342

LL viewer: Preferences -> Graphics -> Advanced Lighting Model.
FS viewer: Preferences -> Graphics -> General -> Advanced Lighting Model  or  Quick Preferences -> Advanced Lighting.

Very nice, thank you. Now I just have to find out which viewers are EEP viewers... o.o

That's how the stars look on an EEP region when using a non-EEP viewer.
The stars will render larger then normal & will be black if ALM is enabled & white if ALM is disabled.
The stars will render normally on an EEP region when using an EEP enabled viewer.

Ah, this explains it but...What is ALM? And it'd be better if the stars didn't clip through the rising or setting moon as detailed in the following snapshot...

Next catznip is in limited beta right now (patreons), public beta soon, release sometime after soon.

Thank you. I did receive an answer within the Official Group as well about it coming this year. I can hardly wait...Meow! =^_^=

  19. Hello again, everyone!

After my previous question regarding the Windlights (And a little grueling business the other day), I'm starting to wonder when the next version of Catznip will be rolled out. It's already been more than a year since the previous version came out. So...Does anyone here have any ideas? I also tried joining the Official Catznip Group and asking there twice, but I didn't receive a response. Anyway, please let me know...Thanks in advance!

  20. Um...Hi there!

It has been quite a while since I posted anything here at all. But upon logging in tonight and seeing it dark in-world, I happened to notice a little something...Different. What, you ask? The stars, of course! They're...Bigger and brighter. And square-ish, with a hint of green on them. Here's a picture, so you can see what I mean...Anyway, please tell me this is like some kind of joke or something. I can even see the stars in wire-frame mode! Normally, this wouldn't be possible. Who made this change, when, and why? Please let me know...Thanks. P.S. If this was LL's doing, I'd rather not live in a fantasy/Ruin-Scape themed SL world, alright?

That's why you need a dog. They are unfailingly faithful and sickeningly poor music critics. They will get all woofy and excited about anything you do.

FYI: I can't afford a dog and my RL landlord won't allow pets of any kind where I live anyway. I guess I'll go watch the birds or watch my plants grow. I've always been a nature-lover/environmentalist at heart anyway. I don't even care if I make any more money now anyway. Blessed are the poor.

Compensation? Certainly not. What would you expect to be compensated for, anyway?  It's an unexpected interruption of service. You wait until it's fixed. And read the TOS. LL gives no guarantee of uninterrupted service.

Gah! I guess it doesn't really matter now anyway. We're all going to be super-disenfranchised by 2019 anyway. There's no point in even complaining anymore.
