    You are totally right.

However, we must do with what monitors can display, and unless you are rich enough to pay for a high DPI monitor (with the graphics card to match the resolution at high enough FPS rates) and a full HDR color space and super-high contrast dynamic (i.e. with a QLED or OLED screen) , you do need some kind of dynamic range compression, or you will have to push the luminosity to levels that will make black spots look grey (and make your eyes bleed), so to see all the color details.

This is why, with my monitor (which is an excellent one, but definitely not an HDR one) I prefer (and pretty much need) linear color space...

In fact, on non-HDR monitors, an HDR rendered scene will look way more artificial and even ”toonish”, with way too saturated dark colors.

When i do video of sl, i am constantly trying in post  color grade to make it look a little more like rl film, and try to control the saturation and contrast. I recently bought a BenQ monitor, 10 bit, but of course 10 bit would never be used for SL, but it does produce 100% srgb coverage. not sure what this all has to do with the thread, but trying to reproduce a film look from a SL screen recording has been an obsession of mine for a while LOL

  2. Recently I had rented in E**. Beautiful area if you've never visited there. Normally renting in SL is pretty easy. Pay  box.  And if you leave - easy, let the owner/manager know, and whatever excess rent you have will be returned. I mean we don't sign leases in SL it is simple month to month or even week to week. Well, come to find out - not so in **. There, if you have time on the box, they keep it until which time they rent the place out again. I don't really know if this is common in SL or not, but I gotta say, if you ever do rent in E**, make sure never to to pay rent in advance or plan on staying until time is fully expired. I unfortunlately have a habit of paying 2-3 months in advance, and at 8k a month that adds up. Or maybe it is just me this is the common practice for rentals in SL

  3. FS and BD side by side  be like them running a marathon - only BD is the one that smokes 3 packs a day! Seriously though, I am wondering if there is an issue with BD or something maybe in Win 11 chocking the life out of it, I am in a sim about 50 people, of first of all have to set the avatar render options in BD to unlimited or nearly everyone is a grey blob, but besides that, with the other settings roughly equal, FS loads the scene running a good 25-28fps in under a minute, BD, 10 minutes later is still huffing along at 3-10fps and even 20 minutes later some things (objects and avatars) as still not out of their grey state. I notice this even in empty sims but complex - lots of objects, transperencies in trees and bushes etc.... so I am wondering, is it just me or have other BD users noticed this as well? wouldn't surpise me at all if something in Win 11 is playing choke the chicken. My system is core i7, Nvidia 3070, 32 gig RAM, drives all SSD. BTW I use the studio driver on the 3070 - my video editor seems to like that better. Win is 11 pro, version 22H2, build 22621.1992

  4. Thanks Henri. I gotta say I never understood the whole LOD thing that much other that more is better - to a point, I just figured what I was seeing was "old mesh" Question though - if I run into this situation again other than settings object LOD on a really low value - is there any other tweeks like in debug settings to keep the items rendered (I have the latest version FS and the RenderMaxNodeSize is already as you mentioned above)

  5. this is based on the FS viewer 6.6.8 (68380)  but  this more about object LOD in general. I had a strange situation last nite shooting a wedding where some items 'un rendered' often when I zoomed closer into them. I tried all the usual tricks - zooming way out and snapping back in, turning off dynamic adjust LOD.. usualy when something isn't rendering right you would turn up the LOD a little, but as I was sliding the slider up and down I noticed that at .876 everything was there in the scene - benches, candle sticks, etc. any higher those objects would un render again. of course some objects worn, like glasses, needed LOD to be at least at default - 2 - so I had to go from .876 to 2 depending on what I was shooting. I really hadn't seen it where lowering the LOD would make some object render normaly - but I had seen this issue in the past on occassion but could never figure out what was going on. Can any one explain why this is - that some oblects need this really low LOD to appear "normal"? I would guess it has something to do with how they are made but still it doesn't make much sense. Is there some other setting besides LOD that would keep items like that rendered normaly?

  6. I poked around for a bit no real lag, even on more crowded areas. But it does hightlight one beig drawback of SL it has always had and no way to really inprove it. Being a nulti sim even, there are going to be stuff in the war far  distance that isn't rezzed or partially rezzed, and even stuff close by have to wait a bit for all the gray to go and the textures to fully rezz, It is what it is, just how sl is for the most part. I do have to say though, the Fantasy Faire did fair better with distant viewing and rezzing stuff, so maybe I just went at a bad time. But even so, alot of people put alot of work into this , so it is better to appreciate that than always be the debbie downer

  7. I know though from testing the official viewer handles high avatar loads WAY way better than FS, at least in terms of FPS, It is double if not more FPS than FS. It just well can't really use the official viewer very well for video recording, And the 8gig VRAM most good cards have now - that maxes out now with 30 or so avies in an event. I also know on Win 11 at least, you will want at least 32g of RAM, 16 is no longer enough

This is an issue that I've been looking into a lot lately.  I beleve that it is caused (partly at least) by the swapping between your GPU's VRAM and system RAM.  Like you I have 32GB DDR4 RAM with an AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU, but once the texture loading exceeds the value set (somewhat arbitrarily) for your GPU in Dynamic Texture Management (look in Preferences>Graphics>Hardware settings) which I assume you have activated.  I also assume you are using Firestorm (if not you will grossly underuse the VRAM available on your 3060).  I found disabling DTM and running at the arbitary 2048MB limit imposed for my GPU (GTX1660Ti 6GB) resulted in a smoother run but quite unacceptable levels of texture thrashing.

I see this too on occasion and also have noticed with VRAM is at its limits (in my case 8g) or just before its limits, it can do this, but not always. I always suspected it could have something to do with where the additional memory is coming from. I have 32g RAM (3200mhz) and of course all SSD drives . But since it doesn't seem to do it all the time, who knows!

JACKSON!!! YO! It's been a min! :) I will 100% go look at it if you recommended it.

Does it have good documentation, etc? Do I still have the same bells and whsitles...like can I make things brighter, sharper, and play with speeds?

everything as far as editing same as premiere, color grading is better, it has Fusion (think after effects but node based) and Fairlight a full professional sound editing built in. Tons and tons of youtube tutorials availble. The only 'downside' is if you like to work with "templates" alot less avaible than for premiere/after effects, and the titling system for like end credits is better in premiere. But you can download the free version and try that, for SL video that maybe is all you'll need anyways

I use OBS to film (free) and just upgraded to Premiere Pro (I pay the monthly fee cause I’m cheap), and I’ll likely stick with both until I find something better.

Premiere Pro was the only thing I could find that would give me an edited outcome that was ‘sharp enough’ - all my files coming out of Camtasia were always a little fuzzy.

Davinci Resolve. The free version will do everything and more than Premiere, or get the studio version, one time fee of 300. I was a adobe crack addict for years and years. Renting software for life doesn't make alot of sense, and if you can edit on premiere you can edit in resolve. and color grading video- premiere is a joke. Resolve color grading has been the industry standard for decades

  11. thats great. I tried a xbox controller and got the settings about right but I just got to used to using the 3d mouse. I'm sure gamers will love the controller for a flycam I talked to another video maker and he uses a flight controller so you also use your feet for some of the flycam movement

  12. for the 3d mouse there are a couple different settings i use most often. The most common is 1 on the axis settings and feathering set at .05 or .005

Another setting is keep feathering at 1, but the axis i might use like .05 or in that range depended how slow and smooth I want it. Keep in mind that this works best in firestorm where you can enter all the numbers in the cam settings located in the phototools panel, You just have to experiment between the feathering setting and axis settings to fit with your style of cam movement, remeber the 3D mouse was never intended to be used as a flycam to make video but with a little tweaking you can slow things down

Then there are the folks that don't trust anything about the government.  Those are the folks that will keep things like PayPal alive.

And the US going totally cashless -- that won't happen in my lifetime and I'm not even sure it would happen in my children's lifetime.  It's back to TRUST again -- there are lots of folks that don't trust anything except cash.

alot of things we never thought could happen happened in 2019 and 2020. I think "conspiracy theroists" are 10, government 0   🤣

The FAQ specifically says that it is for bank transfers..

Edited to add: If you are correct, it's just one of those "end times" things. Nothing to worry about, move along.

I also remember when the government told us getting a certian vaccine would make a certian virus go away - sometimes things the government says and things that happn are 2 different things. But I didn't mean for this to turn into the Alex Jones show here, just wanted to know where Linden/Trillia were on this system

  15. a few years back, a guy started working on a fly cam that used the numpad in your keyboard. he eventually gave up though. I used it for a couple of years and it was really nice, though the set up to get it to even work was a major deal. I could never get it to install correctly on another computer. I still have the program he gave me and it needs the 'v-joy' file - sure would be nice if someone who knew about this stuff could make it work!

other than that, either a space mouse or a mouse + alt and use cam smoothing - both of which will take practice to get good at. Oh and BTW there are keyboard shortcuts for turning off the entire UI and for turning off HUDs - i can't remember them now I use a hot key, but easily googled

    Had to Google it.

Quote: "FedNow is the first U.S. government-created and -backed portal allowing banks to send and receive funds almost instantly."

Since it is for bank transfers, some of us won't want it. I'd rather keep using a credit card for Second Life.

FedNow will be the money transfer system in the future all transaction will go through it eventually, It is part of the move to an all digital, cashless  currency

First the transfers will go trough FedNow into systems like PayPal, but eventually the PayPals will go away and consumers will have a digital money account with the Fed. But then again, the USA refused to adopt the metric system, so this may well be another failed attempt LOL
