  1. I tried the webprofiles and do not like them at all. The current in-world profiles are so much more than flashy myspace pages, we use them for interaction. Find on Map, Offer Teleport, Add friend, Pay, IM, Mute, Give inventory, the ability to take notes on people, interests....all gone.

Since it is obvious that all people that ever understood how SL works and how it's being used, have been replaced by outsiders going gaga over Facebook and Twitter usernumbers, perhaps the new CEO should look into recruiting future personnel from within SL. I would wager that most 6 month old users have a better understanding of SL than most of the staff that is making decisions like this.

It's the reason why Viewer 2 (among others) has been, and continues to be, an embarrasing failure that 75% of the userbase find as pleasing as having smallpox.

And also add another NO vote to Facebook and Twitter buttons on the webprofiles.

Hopefully due notice will be sent before SecondlifeServer gets replaced by Apache so we can take pictures of our builds for the shiny new 2D world

  2. Samm, if you had never in your life seen a spoon and someone handed you a  fork and told you 'this is how you eat soup' you probably would not  starve and learn to deal with it. But after having discovered the  miracles of spoon, you would perhaps be flippin' the bird at the person  trying make you use the fork.I think that is pretty much what is  happening here

  3. Using Viewer 2 on Mesh beta for a few hours gave me servere hand pains. Frequently used items are still placed very poorly, entirely unintuitive and require alot more clicks to accomplish for tasks that are 1-2 click operations in nearly every TPV.

Windows minimize to top left, "notifications" are so prominent that they get missed even over multiple sessions and chat is pretty much a challenge in itself. Floaters waste huge amounts of screenspace. I am using 24" screens and cannot even begin to phatom what it must be like on smaller monitors. Dont even get me started on the sidebar that is *still* present.

'B' no longer opens build menu (now ctrl+B) and so on and so forth. Even deleting items needs careful 'aiming' and the first option in right-click-remove is 'abuse report?

Basic use of the viewer is still so fundamentally broken and painful that unless you suddenly start putting very major efford into fixing the basics, it will probably be 12+ months until the viewer will be worth installing again.

With every install and attempt to giving it an unbiased chance (counting 11 now) i find myself disliking it more. The longer i use it, the more things i find that are just horribly awkward to use. It is frustrating to the extent that it makes me want to log OFF.

UnViewer 2.0, your personal ticket to RSI and carpal tunnel...

  4. People are abandoning registration at point where they have to choose  a name? And your conclusion was that people could not think of any  names? Have you folkies at LL actually tried to sign up  for an account? I have brought around 30 people to SL over the years and  at many occasions my friends had to abandon registration and try again  later because the signup system did not work. It bugged out after they  had choosen a name that system told them was free and the system either  errored out, suggested to try later or said the name was already in use  (because they had just registered it and something went haywire, when  checking inworld search their chosen names were free). Some ended up trying to register as much as 5 times, with them having to use different email adresses (because the system already blocked previously used ones), to get a single working Avatar created. Others had to wait a day or two until the registration system worked properly again, and yet others did not bother to try again.

Looking at statistics is good - interpreting and understanding them is an entirely different story.

    Display names:

I entirely agree with the suggestion that changing names could be a Premium feature.

Chatlogs must always include the accountname, just showing changes that are made in immediate vincinty is not sufficient.

Also, give users the ability to turn off display names entirely. Entirely means, no display names anywhere, not in chat, not on objects/textures/animations, not in chatlogs and the friendlist defaults to 'username - displayname' (preferably sortable by both fields). This will make life for residents that have to deal with others professionally alot easier. Personally i dont care if i get IM'ed by Jane Duh2387439 or jhklz9373 as long as i it is their unique identifier. It will make SL less immersive for me, but by far outweights the hassle and drawbacks that displaynames offer me.

I still feel this whole displaynames idea should be scraped and the current registration expanded by allowing people to type in a desired Lastname. The First and Lastname combination should remain unique.
