Windows 8 Consumer Preview (the beta) not compatible with SL viewer

Has anyone else tried Windows 8 CP with the SL viewer yet ?

There was an earlier release version of Windows 8. Most of the apps I tested on it ran just fine. Including Second Life. I'll try out this new preview version as soon as I can set up a machine to install it on.

My lasting memory of Windows 8 was that of being underwhelmed by the metro interface and using the registry tweak to force it to default back to the 'legacy' start menu.

I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview last night and haven't found any viewers that won't run; Exodus, Zen, Phoenix, Firestorm, Dolphin, LL's V3, LL's Development (Snowstorm). They all took a while (30-45 seconds) at the "initializing texture cache" stage of starting the first time I ran each one but they all start like they did on Win 7 now that I've had each one up and running.

I tried again and as you said, Firestorm started up ok once I updated the Nvidia video drivers. That was the issue the first time. So, word to the wise, update your graphics drivers BEFORE you attempt to run SL or Firestorm, etc on Windows 8 CP.

I updated my drivers and I am still having issues getting SL to open! Using AMD Radeon HD 6320 graphics.

Hey Sadie I am having the same problem and I have the same graphics card as you. I have updated the driver and uninstalled and installed CCC. But still no luck. If i can find a soloution for this graphics card I will post it up.

I was able to get Second Life to work in Windows 8 on my ATI Radeon HD 5670 with the following driver:

Hopefully they will work for others.
