I have a ghost on my Account! And I can't log in

Question

Last night just past 7:00 PM SLT I went off world and crashed, I tried logging in dozens of times over and over again for nearly an hour before I decided to call it a day. This morning I tried again a few times and still I can't log in... What is the best course of action I should take to access my account?

Hello Zarek. We got full here with threads about the same issue. 5-6 residents reported it since yesterday. Maybe the old bug is back again. Nothing of our suggestions worked. Give a try to submit a ticket under Account issues --> Second Life Web Login Issues. Report the problem there, be patient and wait for a reply. Alternatively you can open a jira --> +Create Issue (on the right). Usually there you get an official answer by the Lindens.

By the way we have currently issues in world (about 3 hours now) with Inventory Database Maintenance so maybe it affects you also. Please see: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/

If the system is constantly giving you the message that you're being logged out, then obviously the system hasn't logged you out correctly.

You need to try to log in at a different location - use Furball or Chalvez or Quarrel. This may jolt the system into realising that you cannot have two presences in world, and will knock you offline properly.

The official Second Life Knowledge Base entry for login failure due to avatar presence (ghost) being left behind in world is here. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109   It is important to know though, that as it is ten months since the ghosting issue was fixed, any methods that worked previously in de-ghosting someone, may or may not work at this current point in time.

I therefore urge anyone with this issue to contact Live Chat directly.   https://support.secondlife.com/start-chat/  They should be able to see if your avatar is showing as online, and log it out properly.

YEAH I just went through this... Contacted linden labs ( you can only do this if your a premium ) ( my understanding ) Anyway after 4 hours in limbo the live chat person freed me  immediately!   Apparently it is an issue with the inventory cleaning today???

Marigold gave you a good link. Also, check out I Can’t Login, which explains some of the problems and how to get around them. As pointed out this was a problem some months ago that has now come back.

When problems in SL return, the problem is usually the symptom. The actual cause is often something new. As users we see the same symptom and assume it is the same problem. Regardless of what the cause is, getting the system to realize you are logged off is the fix. Many of the fixes provided are targeted at waking the SL servers up, so hopefully they still work. Let us know what works for you.
