Question

Since you are able to log in without crashing with an alt account, it seems unlikely to be a connection issue, which was my first thought. (I could be wrong and will not exclude this still).

Somewhere along one of these paths -

(Windows - In folder options, choose to show hidden files/folders.)
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife\
Vista and Windows 7: C:\Users\<username>\appdata\roaming\SecondLife\
MacOSX - /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/SecondLife/
Linux - /home/<username>/.secondlife/

you should find a folder for your avatar(s). Try (re)moving the folder for the avatar that is causing issues and start the viewer again. There may be a file in there somewhere which is causing the viewer to crash/log you out.

Good idea and thanks for the post. I added the idea to my Can’t Login Second Life post. I provided a more selective approach to deteing the files than just wiping the whole folder. Since one should also be aware that deleting the avatar's folder also deletes chat logs.

My article also covers a similar login problem that is caused by V3.1 code that is present in both the Linden Lab and Third Party Viewers. Phoenix Viewer users have been getting advice on that problem from Phoenix Support.
