Gray avatars

They haven't rezzed in yet. Download Singularity and give that a try. It seems to rezz in stuff the most rapidly, including avatars.

Gray avatars are avatars that haven't fully rezzed (or loaded).  There are two main causes for the problem.  The first is your system might not be quite up to the task of dealing with all the textures and objects surrounding your avatar......they avatars usually eventually rezz though it may seem they don't because it can take a long time.  There are a number of fixes for that problem........changing to less feature rich viewer as Randall mentioned, rebooting your router, lowering your draw distance, turning off features such as shadows, or going with a video card upgrade.  And the second cause is that the avatar(s) that fail to rezz is being controlled by a user who has any or all of the above "issues" on their end.........those avatars will never rezz fully for you (or anyone else).  You can only "fix" what's on your end.  There are times when you just live with several gray avatars around you.

 

Those are not the only causes.  But they are to two most common.

Hello Christine. Sometimes you can fix also the issue if you teleport out and back again, or relog at your last location especially if you visit places for first time or places with many avatars. Sometimes also is possible to see some avatars grey because they changed something in their appearance (add / remove stuff) without rebaking their textures. While they look their avi's OK, you look them grey.
