Hey all.  Been scouring the forum to see if I could find an answer or a similar problem but wasn't able to find anything so I thought I'd ask.

To start, I'm using maya 2010.  I've created some simple meshes and rigged them as per the instructions found on here, that part seems to work fine.  In maya I'm able to move the skeleton and the mesh moves with it etc.  I then select everything and export using the fbx exporter (I've tried the colladamaya/opencollada one and it seems to just make maya hang, left it for ages and nothing happens it just freezes).

At this point I go into sl and attempt to upload my mesh.  I check the option for skin weights.  Everything looks find in the preview, I can see the mesh and it looks normal.  So I go ahead and upload it.

Now here's the problem, I can rez it on the ground and it looks fine, just as it should although tiny because I haven't scaled it properly.   I then attempt to wear the mesh but for some reason, it disappears.  I'm wearing it but I can't see it.  I've tried with a couple of different meshes.  First I made a dress and had this result so then I rigged a giant ball over the entire skeleton and tried to upload that to the same effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the problem I'm having is actually the same as this: http://secondlife.lithium.com/t5/Mesh/Maya-to-SL-problems-calculate-weights-button-still-dissapearing/td-p/1065443

I've tried the solutions there and none of them worked.  I get an error when I try to open the skeleton mentioned so I can't use that.  I was originally using kirsten's viewer to upload and now I've switched to LL viewer 3 and I have the same problem with the disappearing button, I'm now not able to upload it if it's rigged and get the same skewed preview window.

I'm sure it's probably not rigged properly, there's obviously some problem somewhere.  I've done all the steps (make model, select model plus skeleton from the center joint, smooth bind, select all and export) and it moves fine in maya.  I'm guessing it's a problem with the way it's being exported but who knows, that's why I'm asking if anyone has any ideas or solutions.

I've got a three guesses as to what might be going on.  You mentioned you haven't scaled the mesh properly.  If it's very small, my guess is it's buried inside your avatar's body.  If so, try turning off avatar rendering, and perhaps you'll be able to see it.  If it's the reverse, and the mesh is way too big, then the reason you're not seeing it could be that your camera is inside it.  If that's the case, disable camera constraints, and zoom way out.  The third option is maybe it's located at some offset distance from the attachment point.  If it's tiny and offset a good distance it may be quite difficult to locate.
