how do you turn on global illumination

i am trying to turn on global illumination, but dont seem to work when i do my world looks like this

everything has a blue layer over it.

not really sure wat global illumination is anyways lol.. if y'all can tell me or redirect me somehwere lol... 

 

(BTW i use kirstens viewer)

 

EDITED: it also happens on the normal viewer

I use Kirstens too and see the same blue cast if I tick GI. It affects some textures but not others.
