Is there a set distance you have to be to build slash edit?

Hello, 

I am editing large prims (64x64x1) and notice that if I am not close enough avatar wise I cannot edit them to move them. Can click edit but the edit menu fields are greyed/grayed out. My question is: Is there a distance for being able to edit things? If so, what is it? If there is a limit is there an override? 

I can cam no problem, seems my avatar has to be close to the prims. Just don't know how close.

ps, just checked same with standard sized prim. if too far edit is grey.

I'm working from ancient foggy memory here, but enable the Advanced Menu, then uncheck "Limit select distance" and check "Disable camera constraints".
