I have to say that I have heard, with only one or two exceptions, pretty much nothing but good things from those who rent from him.

I've rented from him twice. The first time as Alycia and another of my alts, with no incident. The second time in that lovely Lovecraft lodge, where he accused me of being the alt of someone else who had tormented him at another place. Needless to say, I have mixed feelings toward him as a landlord, but I would still recommend his rentals.

I don't want to pick on him. He provides nice rentals at affordable prices. Just don't let yourself be perceived as a trouble-maker. I was IMing and notecarding him about things like a wall that needed to be adjusted and whether Alycia could be a co-tenant with me. He probably gets a boatload of IMs from tenants, would-be tenants and former tenants. Just as in RL, the person who irritates their landlord too much is not going to be their favorite person.
