Hi @Rombald78, welcome to the Commiunity Forums.

The first thing for you to do is to let us know your settings and system stats. We can try to help further once we know we know what we're dealing with.

Go to your top bar menu in your viewer:-

Help -> About [viewer name] -> Info tab

and copy/paste everything on that page to a posting here. If you need to conceal your location for any reason, either edit it out first or go somewhere bland (like Hatton, which is a Linden water region) to collect these stats. If you can manage to collect these stats while you are logged in, we'll get a bit of extra information which can be very helpful. If not, never mind, just do it while not logged in.

Thanks for your response. Info follows as requested but first I will mention that I have no trouble on my laptop, so the problem is not internet connection. However, I would much prefer to be able to use this PC.

starting with the first and last line i quoted ; it is your connection, 3% packet loss will for sure keep you off a constant connection that the viewer needs, so it logs you off/crashes.

However a I3  with gt640 will run SL, miracles aren't expected, so only low settings will make SL running.
the 3000 kb bandwith isn't needed
the draw distance has to be as low as possibe
ALM disabled.
disk cache 204 mb and using 136% isn't really in line with eachother.

reset your modem/router( and cabled to your pc) it might make the packet loss better, if not it's possible that the connection trouble is by your ISP( or further in the line) and is out of your control, but you can ask your ISP to investigate that.

Thanks, trying to follow your suggestion but in the meantime, I have checked the stats when running on myb laptop, as follows. The only difference compared with my desktop PC that appears significant to me is the hardware - graphics card and CPU. Am I right?

Still, it's odd because I ran SL on my PC a few years ago with no problem. The only change since then is upgrade internet service to fibre which gives much higher speed than previously.

Laptop stats follow:

It could very well be a network problem. If you are using wifi change to a wired ethernet connection to your modem or eth to wifi if using wired or just change the cable. It's quite normal to get some packet loss when first logging in. I'm curious to see what loss you have after 5-10 minutes of use (if you can stay on that long). If you could post a traceroute here (block out the first few hops) that would help quite a bit to rule out networking problems. You will want to download a program called winmtr. It must be run as administrator (right click the icon and select "Run as Administrator) and for an IP address use:

simhost-0fc68a340b12d2c2f.agni.secondlife.io

That will trace the exact path from your computer to social island. The results have to be interpreted because a lot of routers reject or limit ping requests so post them here or send me an IM. Block out the first few "hops" (ip adresses) to mask your originating IPs. More than likely everything will be fine but it is always good to eliminate potential problems in the bud.
