Friending not working correctly

It seems that I cannot give or accept friend requests when one party is offline. If I, or they, click accept, I get a message saying the request was accepted AND their name will be on my friends list. If I relog they will be removed from my friends list. The only way it works is if we're both online at the same time.

 

A minor annoyance I guess, but it actually is making it pretty difficult to meet up with people I met through the forums, adboards, and similar situations. Is there a way to fix this?

This has been mentioned in several threads so far and I imagine it's on LL's radar. In fact, if you do a quick search in the JIRA, you'll find it has been accepted as BUG-7557. No guarantees about when it is likely to get fixed, but it's on the schedule somewhere.
