People in different places on map

A bit of background... My boyfriend is always lagging and getting disconnected. Somehow when he sees me sometimes on his map, I am in different places and not right next to him, like I am  with my avatar.  What's causing this?

that is usually lag issues. the map is desyncd with his client and showing you in the wrong place. it might still be showing to him your last place before he lagged or got disconnected.

The world map does not show avatar positions very accurately at all, even when avatars have been standing still in the same place for some considerable time. I'd guess that errors of 20 - 30 metres are not uncommon. If you're seeing errors greater than this, I can only think that it's due to the world map not yet having updated after an avatar has made a major change of position.

The minimap places avatar positions much more accurately, especially when zoomed in close, but, of course, can only show a limited area of the grid surrounding your own location.
