Mikki Miles
I'm working on an object in Blender (3D view, solid) and some faces of a perfect flat plane show a darker grey than the others. Moving a vertex sometimes fixes it, and I'd like to know what that means, and does it bring any disadvantage having such darker faces in the model? Luc Starsider
Perhaps it is easier to see what it could be on a screenshot (of the mesh in edit mode)? - Luc -
Drongle McMahon
Simplest cause is flipped normals on a surface with smooth faces. Select the dark face and do Mesh->Normals->Flip. If that is it it, will cause problems. In world, faces are one-sided. The visible face is the one you can see the normal stick out of if you turn normal display on. If some are the wrong way round, they will be visible only from the wrong side.
Mikki Miles
No, th normals are ok. I'll post a screen shot, if I ever get home again. Currently I'm stuck on a train in thr black forrest...
Gaia Clary
Maybe you have overlapping faces ?
Ashasekayi Ra
That can happen if you have some faces with smooth shading and some with flat shading as well.
Mikki Miles
that's the way it looks like:
Gaia Clary
I still believe, you have hidden faces and or duplicate vertices in your mesh. check the edges and vertices for duplicates. maybe remove duplicates can already solve the problem.
Ashasekayi Ra
Yea, that looks like you have shading set differently on the effected polygons.
Mikki Miles
yeah! it was the flat/smooth thing for most of the faces, and for one the overlapping face thingie... thanks for the help! edited to clarify
