Is there a fix for this? It's a large mesh that can't be resized so I'm unable to shrink the box space. Alpha masking is a good alternative, can still see environmental lighting through it with added sheen benefit, but lose gradation of transparency turning the wings opaque.

Alpha masking is your best bet. Blended alpha just is not good in a realtime 3D environment like SL (which is why it's so astounding that LL made blended the default alpha mode, and even the only mode available to content creators for about a decade).

Blended should only be used for things like light and water effects. Sparingly and with few exceptions.

It's also worth noting a lot of content creators upload textures with alpha even if the texture itself doesn't use the alpha channel, which only makes the texture use more memory and add texture glitches to the content it's used on. For objects like this, you can set the alpha to "none" to have it render properly.
