If you are a Basic member, it's quite easy.  Don't even bother canceling.  Just walk away.  You wouldn't believe how many people come back to Answers a year or two later and want to know how to recover an account that they closed once.  Since a Basic account doesn't cost you anything at all, just leave it alone for now.  It will be here, with all of its inventory, when you come back.

If you're a Premium account holder, it's a little more complicated, but not much.  Read here >>>

The big thing to remember is that your Premium membership is prepaid.  Even if you cancel today, you will still be a Premium member until the end of the period that you have already paid for, with all of the benefits.  There are no refunds.  If you are living on the Mainland, you will need to sell or abandon your land before you can downgrade, so you may want to wait until closer to the end of your payment period.  If you only own land in private estates, you can live there right up to the end if you wish.
