Congratulations.  You almost got it. You are trying a manipulation that is not particulatly hard, once you're confident with the basic skills.  What you need now are two things: (1) a way to freeze your avatar  and (2) practice. A steady hand will help too.  Also -- word of advice -- make copies of the eyes before you start. That way, if you mess up you just have to start over fresh.

The object to freeze your avatar is a pose stand.  You probably have one somewhere in your inventory (Search for "pose stand".), but if you don't, they are very easy to find in world and in Marketplace.  Don't pay more than L$0 for one.  It should be free. If you use the Firestorm viewer, there's one built in.

So, stand on the pose stand.  It will immobilize you completely. Then use your camera to zoom in on one of the eyes as close as you can get.  I suggest learning to use your mouse and CTR, Alt, Shift keys to manage the camera instead of using the crummy camera widget that's on your screen:

Then, select the eye with your editor (right click and select EDIT) and very gently use the mouse to tug on the colored arrows until the eye is where you want it to be.  If you are really lucky, you won't need to rotate the eye at all, but if you need to, use the colored circles. Here's more detailed instruction >>> https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Build-Tools/ta-p/700039#Section_.1.3.1 .  When you're done with that eye, do the other one.

You may want to take a free class in basic building skills at Caledon Oxbridge University or Builders Brewery first, depending on your confidence level.  Remember that you can't really screw up badly.  If worse comes to worse, just detach the eye and try again.

Two additions to Rolig's excellent answer.

Very often, eyes are grouped as a single object.  When you move one eye, you'll move them both.  This is great, until you get one eye perfectly in position and find the other one still needs a tweak or two.

In that case, in the object Edit window, check the "Edit Linked" box, then right click the eye you want to edit.  You should see the selection change.  Now you can edit the second eye without affecting the first one.

Some objects (not just eyes) are No Modify and you cannot use the Edit tools on them.  However, they are equipped with a re-sizing and/or positioning script.  Right click an eye and you'll get a menu, with choices like +X, -X, or +.01, -.05, etc.  Click the buttons to move or to re-size the eyes.  I find this is more tedious than using the editing tools, but some creators offer this feature for people who aren't used to manually editing attachments.
