You can't use LSL to write to a notecard.

In the past, the work-round has been to store data within the prim parameters in various forms -- having the script write values to, and read them from, either the description fields of child prims or as invisible hovertext.    You can also store and read vectors by setting them as colour values for hidden prim faces.

However, now we've got Experience Tools to play with, we can use llReadKeyValue and related functions to retrieve, store and update data.

Just a few minutes, I was told online that the variables will hold the data even if I detach and log off, as long as the script is not reset.

That's true.   However, a script can also jam if there is a math error, or you may simply need to reset it when the scripted object changes owners or its inventory changes, or for any number of other good reasons.  If you want to save values so that they are not lost on reset, you can use the Experience Tools KVP facility, or send things to an external server, or you can save them in the Description field of a prim or in any number of other non-volatile areas.
