Does anyone know how to hide the stuff your wearing on your avatar?

I have a question, my question is that can you hide your avatar products that your wearing just like IMVU? If so, tell me how.

No, unless the items are modifiable in which case you could make them fully transparent, in which case they would also be hidden from you.  HUDs cannot be seen by other players, so there's no need to do anything with those.  They should only be worn while in use, so most clothing/shoe/hair/body HUDs can be detached once you have styled your avatar.  Combat and certain other HUDs stay on in use, but still cannot be seen by other people.

But why would you spend money on things and then not want anyone to see them?  Perhaps if you don't want people to see how you look you'd be better off with a private sim, or stand alone world.

Only if it has a hide function built in or, as Pixie said, it's modifiable. 

Some objects, such as genitalia, have a "hide" option in the menu or HUD. You can use that if you don't want to detach the object. Most other objects do not have that function; it's not typically necessary.
