Open the Land Manager on your dashboard at secondlife.com and check to see where you have land, just in case you have forgotten something.  If you own land on the Mainland, you may either sell it to another resident or simply abandon it by going there, opening World >>> About Land >>> General and clicking Abandon Land.  If you have donated any of your tier to a group and therefore have an ownership interest in group-owned land, you must also reclaim that contribution.  Follow these instructions carefully to Remove Your Existing Land Contribution >>> https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Group-owned-land/ta-p/700079#Section_.5.1 . 

You do not need to sell or abandion land that you are renting or land that you own in private estates.  Basic account holders may rent anywhere in SL and may own land in private estates

1) Go to your Linden Home, stand in it and abandon it.

2) Go to the https://secondlife.com/my/account/membership.php?lang=en-US page and request the Basic Account

You remain a Premium member until the end of your pre-paid period.
