Why the $1 fee for adding payment info? I was not told of this before I added it.

Question

I don't understand why I was not told there was going to be a fee for adding payment info. Furthermore, I don't understand why it costs ten linden every time you upload an image. Is there a way to test and see if an image works inworld first before you pay that fee? I want to create skins and clothes, but I don't want to pay 10 linden just to test if it looks right in SL.

1.  There is NOT a $1 fee for adding payment info. This is not an actual charge, but an authorization that Linden Lab requests from your credit card company.

Once the authorization is received, which confirms the account is valid, they then rescind the authorization.

At no time is the US$1.00 actually charged, though the authorization may appear on a credit card statement as such. The amount may show as "pending" or "authorized" for a few days, but then will drop off the account entirely.

2.  You can easily upload textures temporarily at no charge.  Use the Local Textures feature >>> http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Rolig_Loon/Local_Textures    As an alternative, you can do your work on the Aditi (beta) grid, where all uploading of ALL assets is free.  The only catch is that you can't bring anything back to the main grid, but it's fine for testing.
