How can I find a place that is great to find new friends other than a club? :-)

I have been away for a while and am looking for a place that I can engage in conversation, possibly make a friend or two. I  used to go  Hyles often, but now that place doesn't seem to be very active anymore. Meeting new people and making friends feels soo good. I can't wait to back into the swing of things again. :-)

There's a lot of life outside the club scene, but you do have to search a bit.  You can try searching for groups that you have something in common with, and then find out where they gather.  Or, you can try visiting sims that appeal to you (The Grand Canyon?  David Rumsey maps? Charleston Water Park?) and strike up a conversation with people who seem to be enjoying the things that you do too.  Or maybe take a class at Builder's Brewery or attend a music event somewhere.  The Meet People game in SL is the same as it is in RL .... slow at first, until you find where "people like you" are hanging out.
