Can you stream your own music in a residential property?

Can you stream your own music in a residential property? eg. the house you get for setting up a premium membership? Im thinking of setting up house partys and having RL djs play, but i want to know if ill be able to stream music or do i have to buy a commercial plot?

It is possible to stream your own music into your land.  You need to rent a stream and have a client such as SAM installed on your computer to do so and of course the music on your computer, or hire a DJ that has all this.

For the most part an occasional private party is ok, but if you want to do this as an event to raise money or on a regular basis it could be considered running a club and wouldn't be allowed.

Sorry for sounding stupid but what is SAM?

SAM is software that you buy to install on your computer to get your music from your computer to the shoutcast server that then streams the music into SL.  It is the software used by most DJ's in SL.  There are other software packages you can use too,

You can also use Winamp. Pretty sure it's free.

Winamp has free and non-free versions. The free version is severely restricted and afaik can't stream.

The free version can most definitely stream, I've used it many, many times.  You just need the plug-in, which is also free.
