  1. In Appearance mode/Edit Shape, look at the Legs section and be sure your foot size is set to 0 (slider all the way to the left)
  2. When you wear shoes, they will have at least three, probably four parts:  a) a left shoe and a right shoe object, that have the inventory symbol of a little cube, b) a "shoe base" item with the symbol of a shoe.  This distorts your foot to fit the shape of the shoe, but it's not perfect.  So you'll also see c) an alpha mask layer that has the symbol of a shirt with a grid pattern on it.

Wear all four items to look correct!

If your shoes did not come with an alpha mask (many freebie shoes and older designs don't), then you can still look OK if you go into Me/Preferences, Graphics tab, and disable Shadows and Advanced Lighting Model.  This will only fix the appearance in YOUR viewer though...anyone with these features turned on in their viewer will still see your feet sticking out.  So it's best to look for shoes with an alpha mask.
