Is it possible to reset the actual "login" name on an account to something different?  Not just the visible name?

No, sorry.  Your account is permanently associated with the user name you chose at signup.  What's worse, other people can (if they choose) see your user name in addition to, or instead of, your Display Name.

The only way to change your user name is to create a new account with a new user name, an "alt".  You can transfer your $L and your transferable items to the new account, but not any No Transfer inventory items.

Because your user name is just about the only thing you can't change about your avatar, it's advisable to choose it with care.  Something pronounceable and not offensive would be nice.  But "JadenVerona" is actually a pretty good name...I would not change it, if it were me.
