I have a new Dell 17 R, this is night #2 with it.  I have installed the new viewer, the beta viwer, and a couple of 3rd party viewers; I have the same problem with all.  The graphics flash in and out, some times going black, like I am in a lightning storm at night.  It is worse for chat windows and text boxes; they flash black and red, and scroll bars look rainbow colored.  have no idea how to fix this.  Again, it is this way with at least 4 different viewers.  This is the bad boy in question.  If anyone can assist me with settings, I would be grateful.

There are no issues with version 1.23.5.  I can use this old version with no problems, please...NEVER stop letting that be a choice for users.  All of the new and improved viewers don't even work on new computers.  I will just have to live with seeing some peoples' clothing as strage trianges, since I can't see the new mesh items in the old viewer.  But at least...I can see everthing else,

If you're getting decent frame rates, try this -

1) Go to "Preferences" - "Advanced" and enable the Advanced menu.

2) Go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Show Debug Settings"

3) In the dialog box, start typing in "RenderGLCoreProfile" (without the quotes) until it autocompletes and then hit "Return"

4) It should be currently set to "False." Set it to "True" and restart the viewer. This will drop your frame rate but get rid of the flashing.

If your frame rate is marginal anyway you can also just go to "Preferences" - "Graphics" and turn off "Basic Shaders."

Intel released new drivers for the HD4000 on the 22nd March 2013 which may or may not help with your problem. You could enquire from Dell Support when they will have it available to download for your Dell 17R.

The shared memory and integrated Intel graphics card are the problem.  Intergrated Intel graphics is really no good for intensive graphics application, such as Sencond Life is.

The new viewers do work in new computers and they work on many older computers, provided that the computers fullfil the requirements of intense graphics application.

What you can do with your system is to look is there graphics driver update available.  It may or may not help - a bit.  And the other thing (as already has been suggested) is to lower the graphics settings.  Anyway, unfortunately you cannot expect to get good performance in Second Life with your laptop. :smileysad:

By the way, if a computer is "brand new, just bought" it is no quarantee that it can run all applications well.  There are computers made for different tasks in mind.  Second Life runs happily if the computer meets the requirements.
