Imagine this being implemented in SL: Someone said your avatar's crap? Nevermind typing an FU, just give it to them! Waving, pointing, rocking out, picking your nose, picking your friend's nose, scratching your butt, scratching your friend's butt! All accomplished without the need of clicking and typing.

Until then I'd rather not get into the habit of waving my fingers around all the time -- I'd worry I'd start doing that in public to make people do things.

The concept is interesting but rather impractical. I've worked a lot with 3D mice, specifically ones that you could strap to your hand and wave/point/grab things with. It gets very tiresome very soon. It's really not precise enough for real work either, which is actually even apparent from their promo vid.
