Like I said here, people won't know if you enable a specific message in a third party viewer. Just block them for as long as necessary and then unblock them. But be careful: If you will never answer them, they might become sceptical if you might have blocked them.

You can wait till they are not online and block them.  I do not think they will even know about it till the next time they try to contact you.  As far as I know, no one other then you & the person you block is aware of it, unless ither of you tell others.
