The cause of this is the alpha channel contained in the texture used for the mesh top you are wearing. Its the same alpha sorting "problem" people have been complaining about for years, but its inherant in all computer graphics. But without this "glitch" we wouldn't have a lot of the content that's produced by some of the best builders in Second Life.So in short, the simplest way to fix this is to check the demos of the mesh clothing against your favorite hair. I had noticed this problem over a year ago, when trying on a demo. Since then I've been texturing ALL my own clothes and am very, very careful as to where I use a texture with transparency (alpha channel). I have noticed that a LOT of the major clothing designers who are utilizing mesh are still saving clothing textures as 32 bit, where this is absolutely not necessary. I save everything with 24 bit except where absolutely necessary. Hmmm. Got me thinking now. Maybe I should open up a clothing store. LOL

Two questions.  The only clothing-related thing I make is alpha masks because a lot of the ones that come with clothes do not work very well.  Should I be saving the textures for them as 24-bit instead of 32-bit?  What is the advantage?

As far as I can see, the two shirts in your photos look the same, so it appears that using the alpha channel did not do anything desirable.  Why would one be used in such an instance?

Thanks!

Jennifer,

No. Continue to save your alpha masks as 32 bit, or as a .png file. If you save them as a 24 bit file, the texture will be opaque and wont do you any good at all. The textures in question are those directly applied to the mesh clothing. As far as the 2 shirts being the same, well, they are essentially. The only difference is that one was saved at 32 bits ( the one showing the background thru my body) and the other was 24 bit.
