Question

Hi there, people!

I would like to know some things about breedable pets. EDIT: I am thinking of buying one soon but I need more information about these animals before my decision is final.

First of all...What are they? I know they can be dogs, cats, horses, or other pets, but what do they do? Can they be fed? How does a person feed them? How much do they need to be fed? How much do they cost? How much does it cost to feed a pet and how often is this cost needed?

Secondly...When buying a breedable pet, how do you know you're getting an actual pet and not just food for a pet? And if you manage to buy a pet, how do you make use of him or her? Do they come packed up real tight in a box? Do they grow starting from being a kitten or a puppy to being a cat or a dog? Does each pet require a certain amount and type of food or can any pet eat any kind of food? Do they also need water?

Finally...What is the best place to go to if I wanted to buy a breedable pet? Who is the most reputable seller?

Any answers on this question would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Holiday Cheers from Henry Crawford

Do you want to buy a breedable pet?

You may be inundated by people wanting to sell you breedables, but how will you know who is reputable or not?

There are many breedable animals on the market, maybe you should take a look at Marketplace, visit places in world, join the relative groups, listen in to the group chat, see what you think.

Breedable animals in SL can be interesting, rewarding, time consuming, or a bl00dy nightmare.

(Other answers will follow.)

Merry Christmas (I do not breed horses or any animals - I used to have chickens, but we got overrun with green ones and they kept dying).

A "breedable" is the generic term for a Second Life animal that mimics some real life behaviors.  They must be fed and cared for, or they languish and die.  They can be bred to produce offspring.  The offspring can then be raised and sold.  Depending on the rarity of their coloring, etc, they may command a high price...or they may be so common you can't give them away.

The biggest complaint about breedables (from those who have them) is the cost of food and other supplies.  This is how the creators make their money...selling you the stuff to keep your herd/pack/flock going.

The biggest complaint from those who don't own breedables is the script load that a large number of breedables imposes on the region.

Despite these complaints, breedables are very popular.  You can get many types...dogs, cats, horses, chickens, dragons, and fantasy creations like the Meeroos.

There are other animals that are NOT breedable, but also mimic real animal behaviors.  The dogs sold by Zoobys and Virtual Kennel Club are popular, and make good "pets".
