My avi's appearance becomes invisible and choppy. How can I fix this?

I have tried everything from re-baking to running a character test, to changing skins and nothing has worked. For some reason when I think all is well, prims disappear and he looks choppy and somewhat invisible. HEEELLLLP!

What sort of an avatar is it? It's hard to imaging what you're describing.  Can you post a photo?  Click on the Options link in the upper right corner of your question and select EDIT. Then click the little icon that looks like a tree and select a pic from your hard drive. 

My guess is that you are dealing with an alpha clothing layer that is misbehaving, but it's really hard to tell without seeing it.
