"Unable to transfer inventory" error: Edited to reflect no solution possible, in Linden's hands now.

I get an error message called "unable to transfer inventory" whenever my friends try to give me stuff.  I resurrected an old avatar from 2007 so obviously missed out on the "received" folder from the marketplace and all the new building tools etc...  How long will poor Poetina have to endure being so different from everybody else?  What can poor Poetina do to get herself an AO and some hair?  Right now there's no rezzing and no inventory wearing or adding at all.  I'm very sad.  Help??

Thanks for your input!!  There are a few things wrong with Poetina's inventory, apparently, according to Linden Labs.  The Lindens have been very helpful about this issue.  I am of course using the most up to date viewer and I can see mesh on everybody else.  I know that hair is not transferable and neither are AOs, but in order to test the inventory I have gone to freebie-islands and welcome centres to get 0L and 1L items to test with, before actually attempting an expensive purchase.  My friends have been transfering me transferable goods and nothing will load in Poetina's inventory and so the Lindens got involved: there is some sort of corruption in the old girl.  It is very sad.  But thank you very much for your suggestions; they would be great for newcomers.  The Lindens will take it from here; and I may just have to get a brand new avvie instead of trying to resurrect that lovely old one (I was stupid to delete her!! Keep your peeps!!)

You didn't miss out on any received folders, at least you shouldn't have. No matter the age of your avatar, it depends on the viewer you use to access it. If you use an old viewer then you won't have as many things a new viewer provides such as the ability to see mesh items.

Are you sure that the items your friends are trying to send you are indeed TRANSFER? If they're trying to send you no transfer products then it won't work. AO's and hair are almost always copy/mod/no transfer so sending a hair your way with such permissions won't work. AO's are the same. I have hardly come across transferable AO's and hair's. Ask your friends to check if next to the item it says (no transfer).

What viewer are you using, the old 1.23? If so, it has none of the latest updates and is not supported anymore. All that you mention is in the latest mesh viewers and has nothing to do with your account being from 2007.

Just install the latest viewer and you'll have all the updates you mention.

If you have problems running one of the new mesh viewers, please post your computer details from SL login screen > Help > About Second Life and then copy/paste into your post here using Options > Edit.

Some viewers have built in AOs but the official SL viewer does not. Hair rarely is transferable.
