I run SL from a flash drive on different computers.  Since I can't change the location of the files in C:\Username\Roaming\SecondLife, it is necessary to copy them from the flash drive to C: each time I run SL and copy them back to the flash drive afterward.  I noticed that it was taking longer to copy them.  I looked to see why, and found that there was a large amount of data in this folder.  There are three subfolders.  One is named http and another is named https, and they contain files with names like this:  cache_fff0897710f1c57a7339346ea0b212a1e1c81ddd.cache.  The third is named prepared and contains files with names like cache_D40144.cache.

The browser_profile/cache directory is just used for web stuff: login screen, search, profiles, media, etc. Web cookies will be in there too.

The other cache folder, usually something like C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\cache by default on Windows, is where the things we usually think of as SL cache (textures, inventory, region objects, sounds, animations, etc. etc.) are stored.
