Why does ctrl-alt-r when I'm on high/ultra settings cause my avi to become partially invisible?

This doesn't happen on the low/med settings, just on the higher ones. Its really annoying when I want to take a good shot but have to spend forever for my skin and clothes textures to load.

You're expecting too much out of your graphics card.  You'll have to choose a lower setting than Ultra if you expect faster loading.  You might be able to get by with turning off some function like basic Shaders instead, but it's probably smarter to just use the lower graphics setting.
