I know there is something used in blender to copy weights from the avatar but I use Maya so, total noob with Blender. I do all my modeling in Maya and thus far my rigging and weight painting. The problem is that I have no idea what the default weights are for the avatar so there's tons of trial and error going on.

If anyone has figured out the equivalent to what folks are using in Blender could someone point me in that direction? If not, should I just try exporting my model from Maya as an obj and weighting it in Blender? It would mean learning a new program unfortunately.

Thanks for any help/advice in advance :)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6003454/Standard%205%20sizes.zip This includes the 5 standard shapes. I don't know what verison of blender you have, but in 2.49 you select the avatar, then your clothing item and then object-> scripts-> boneweight copy. I'm not sure where to get the script for the 2.6 verison. I seem to be missing a lot of the scripts that where in the old blender in that verison. You will need to delete all groups that don't start in m and I think you have to add some groups... like mSkull, mToeRight, mToeLeft, mFootRight and mFootLeft

I have Second Life specific information in my Blender tutorials. See: Mesh Clothes Tutorials.

You'll find information on the varous avatars files available. Both Domino's and derivitives of those made by Gaia are duscussed and they both have weighting applied to the avatar and skirt models. Blender has a feature to copy weighting
