How can I safely delete outfits from my outfit folder?

Right click and select Delete.  Your outfits do not contain actual items, only links to items that are elsewhere in your inventory.  As long as the items themselves are in your inventory, you can't harm anything by simply delting links to them.

You can open inventory and navigate into the Outfit Folder. That folder contains a collection of links, things that just point to the 'real' thing. As Rolig points out, deleting links does NOT delete the actual item. So, you will still be able to find dress, or whatever, used in the outfit elsewhere in your inventory.

You can also open the Appearance Panel, select the Outfits tab, right click on an outfit and select Delete Outfit. Because you are only deleting links, you can delete an outfit you are wearing.

I name outfits so they sort well in the Appearance-Outfits panel.

!Dress Short - [some description].

!Dress Long - [some description].

!Evening - [some description].

etc.

The '!' place the items ahead of the Library outfits. Using Dress as the first word sorts all the dresses of similar types together.
