Question

Some 48 hrs ago switched from 32 bit system to i7 64 bit intel processor. till this after noon in 48 hrs I logged in for about 6 times on SL and it worked reasonably well though i complained of avatar jerky movements and these complaints are here on SL. Today, after loading the updates as they appeared  my system is not responding, in fact the task manager also cant stop the process and i had to restart the comp. I tried to remove the downloded SL and reinstall the same. the reinstallation again is not working .. till the end and then giving me a report that `Program files\x86\SecondLife Viewer2\Win_crash_logger exe' file cant be opened. what is the problem and what remedy do I have, please help.

Sorry to say I don't know what the problem "is" , but I can tell you that it isn't the i7 64 bit on its own as that seems to work fine with all the viewers I have tried (not the newest official ones :D).

My only suggestion (and I am not the techiest of persons) is to uninstall again including manually clearing all the cache files, then run something like CCleaner (free) and defrag. THEN reinstall, perhaps one of the older more stable versions of Viewer 2 if that is what you are using   http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions  or a third party viewer   http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory

Hope you get it fixed. I know how frustrating computer issues can be!

Well, I did suggest that the jerky movement you experience is due to you going from an older system with a discrete Nvidia 9800GT to a i7 HD integrated chipset and no discrete card as discussed in this thread (including some posts in Permalink)

Updates often cause issues and you would be better off disabling this in Preferences and set it to manual updates.

I suggest you uninstall the viewer completely including manually deleting the Second Life folders in AppData > Roaming and AppData > Local.

If AppData is hidden, you need to enable viewing. Follow the instructions for your OS here: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=74220 or here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial62.html

If you wish to save existing chat files you've had with other avatars, move the Roaming > [avatar name] folder elsewhere on your computer and drag any chat text files you wish to retain into the new Roaming > [avatar name] folder once Second Life is reinstalled and you've logged in at least once. Ignore if you don't want to save any.

Now download Second Life from the main download page and install it. Make sure you are in Advanced mode and not Basic prior to logging in. Allow your Inventory to load. Click the Recent tab to get this going.

I usually advise people to open Preferences > Setup tab and change 'Software updates' drop down menu to 'Download and install updates manually', as the automatic update process has caused problems for some. Unless you are experiencing problems a simple uninstall from the Start Menu > All Programs > Second Life should suffice before downloading and installing future viewer releases.
